Must have:

1) Name of the Model.

2) Total Poly Count.

As for your concept that’s up to you if you want to add it into your final image, But I’m sure through the main thread during your work in progress everyone got a chance to see your final concept & screen grabs with texture maps: )

Only one post per artist.

Post up a FINAL render of your two characters. Deadline is 12am GMT April 11th

After the deadline, start voting.

VOTING DEADLINE: Saturday 15 12am GMT

Judging: Choose your favourite 3 entries and mark accordingly.
10 points possible for each category...

Name: Minerva & Titanus
Description: Minerva is the daugther a famous inventor who has just been murdered. Titanus was programed to protect Minerva in case anything was to happen to her father. Minerva uses Titanus as a means to get revenge!

Polycount: 5451 tris (3084 faces)
Programs used: maya 6, photoshop, zbrush.

2x 512x512 textures and 2x 256x256 normal maps and 2x 256x256 light textures were used on Titanus

For this entry i chose an anime style try to think of the sort of companionship in a kids show such as Digimon or Pokemon. this is a gril who has a Robot Red Panda at her command.

As weird as it may sound, this entry reminds me of a futuristic past. The models match and work well together.

From what I see, it’s a good use of polys. All 7000 pols used, I like that.
Texture: 9
I think the textures are great. The only problem I see is wit the normal map on the robot. You cant tell that its there. That means you texture too good. It hides the bump. Or maybe it’s the camera angle and the lights.

No one else went this route, which in my opinion makes it original.

Even though you knew no one was going to see the body underneath, you still went ahead and modeled it. You sacrificed polys for function. That, in my book is a good thing.

I think the textures brought everything down a bit. From the models wire frames Jenkers looks like a socket puppet from the future, but the textures give him an alien lizard feel. Another thing that seemed of where the lights. The final render drowns out the texture making it hard to see the detail.

The textures look cool on the models, but on the robot, which is the focal point, has a plan feel. It would have been nice if it was fully unwrapped and textured.

They both read clearly as "child and her robot", and they're obviously a pair. It's a really good match for the compo description, but I don't feel that it's very creative or new to me.
Model: 9
I'm really impressed. Only thing my eyes dislike are the proportions of the girls arms, but it's only a minor thing, and the rest is just perfect.
Texture: 9
The normal map and shading is beautiful. My only crit is that they feel too "perfect". The color map of the girl should show some kind of evidence that she has weared that coat more than once.

Alissa's textures are very detailed but I dont' like her skin color.

1st: Klash 120 with Sariu & Panzer
Score: 25

Concept 10 - When i saw this in the WIP thread, my jaw dropped. the concept is cool and edgy. I dunno, there's just something cool about flat armed mechs and pilot children.

Model 8 - Using just enough detail to pull the concept out, but not overcrowding. The robot's arms might deform a little poorly in certain situations.

Texture 7 - This kinda drug it down a bit. The robot's texture has a rust or wear pattern all over that makes the parts read the same. The texture could've been used to make the different elements pop very well. (don't ask me how, I didn't even finish!

2nd: Zortek with M39 and Natalia

Concept 8 - I didn't see any of your concepts in the WIP post (I did miss a few pages, though.) The general feel of your robot and child together screams russian though. I looked at your image and knew it before I looked at the name or anything. That's a very good thing :)

Model 8 - Robot model is very slick and I don't see any problems. The child however, strikes me as kinda weird. I don't know what it is, probably the face.

Texture 8 - Sadly, your work towards the normal map seems to be wasted. I can't tell that it's there at all. Then again, maybe it's like makeup and the point is for people not to notice? I have no idea.

Score: 22

Concept 8 - a sweet anime mecha and little girl. Can't go wrong with that. However, I'm supposed to judge based on originality and it looks just like a Zone of the Enders mech. Sorry if that's intentional :(

Model 8 - Your concepts came out well in 3d. The robot's a little more dense than the child, but that's because it's bigger, right?

Texture 6 - The textures really made your models less defined. The robot's legs, arms, and wing thingies all kind of meld together as my eye tries to figure out what's going on. Also, the girl's eyes are much meaner in the texture. I don't know what's up with that. >:D

Model: 10 - This model almost works without any texture at all, it's so well defined. Lot's of defenition with very few polys.
Texture: 8 - This was difficult, because the texture does fit the style very well, but as far as technical skill behind it, it looks like it's probably 80% pre-canned Photoshop filters.

These came off really tight, really pro, really smooth to me. The girl alone just blows me away. I liked the idea of a magic-based character with a technological robot, but one that obviously exhibits magical influence. i had criticisms for details on all the other projects ( especially my own, which is why it was not finished in time! ) but these all stood out for individual reasons. concepts were original, within a specific genre, but still had individual personality. they were also well modeled, with attention to necessary details, solid structure and anatomy, even if it was exaggerated. textures were very well, done, improving the models, and creating a sense of style and personality. all around, exceptional work!

PS i did manage to find the time to finish my model! but the robot is still nameless...

Concept: 8, I love the design for this its kinda makes me think of an alternate future from the cold war. lot of room for some backstory about a robot that saves a little girl and becomes her protector. really looks nice although it would have been nice to see a drawing beforehand.
Model: 9, The fact you had time to do such a detailed High poly model for the normal map and then the overall detail and efficiency of your lowpoly model makes my Jaw drop.
Texture: 8, Both Normal Map and diffuse map look great well painted and well unwrapped.

thought i'd seperate my ideas from my votes.

one thing i think we should do is maybe give the character thing a break for a bit. we seem to only ever do things related to characters. hows about getting some environment, vehicle or static mesh work done ;0)

heres the ideas:

1, A castle, Could be futuristic, fairytale, Horror or military. anything goes. This could also just be made either as just a static mesh or as a full level which could be downloaded. for this i think we would need advice for the limits, i'm not sure how may poly's a game engine can handle for a level.

2, A Warship, submarine/boat/airship. similar to the cgChat/Polycount commander comp. we could build a fleet of war machines to become the "Threedy Armada" the winner would be the flagship of the fleet......maybe not take it that far but a warship would be cool.

3, A motorbike/trike, exactly what it sounds like.

4, Wacky Races, build a crazy racingvehicle possibly with a pilot or maybe just the vehicle.

I'll probly think of more so i'll add em as they come to me.

I do like jukumari's idea about making part of the army....would also fit with my warship idea.

Keep em comming guys and then on to the next comp ;0)

Ahoy Nibby, The rigging I did for my characters was a basic biped joint chain with curves as controls (So I dont have to go in and select joints/IK directly). Used the same idea/structor for the mech. Learn this (somewhat) from when I was in skool (Full Sail) The book was "Maya Character Creation: Modeling & Animation Controls" by Chris Maraffi. He's a nice guy, a bit monotone though XP.

As for next challenge idea, I like that mytholocigical idea Dark_Maggot had. :D

I definately like the idea of designing an end-game boss, as much fun could be had with concepts there. I also like anything that is character based, as it pushes me to practice.
However, designing a level (as mentioned previously) would definately make a change, and could prove to be very interesting. It might be an idea though to ask for exterior levels only, as showing interior levels (especially complex stuff with lots of corridors and secret passageways) might be tricky to show all of through images.

Concrats. to Zortech, Klash, Jukumari and Orochi for being the top four. You guys did an awsome job.This challenge turned up really nice.

I really like the boss idead but i think it should be narrow down to specific games, maybe be two or three.
My idea for the next challenge would be to make an elemental. We would choose one of the four elements and make 2 different classes/creatures that are of that element.
Will post more ideas later.

I totally agree with the horror theme, I´d be totally down for that. Horror monsters, there is definitely a challenge for modelling and texturing, something that is not you know, completely inside the usual human boundaries of arms and legs and so, niiice.

May I offer an idea for the next competition? How about a musical-themed thing - a "Rock Group" - or rather a single musician & their instrument.

such as: a futuristic electric guitarist playing their mod, mod axe through a hi-tech amp -OR- a primitive tribesman playing a set of earthy, ceremonial drums -OR- 1930's guy in a straw hat playing a ukele -OR- anything else?

Lots of room for variation & character + plus there's the addition of an opportunity to do a prop or two

I suppose this could also be akin to the previously mentioned "Army" idea, in a sort of way ...
