hey everyone,

its been a while since I posted something here as ive been really busy with school, final exams coming up in june :S. But over the last week I managed to scrape toether a few hours to work on this (its funny how you can make time for the things you enjoy hehe ;)), well anyway, its based on a little sketch I did in some class or another a while ago and I did it as an excercise in texture painting/mapping, an area of 3d graphics which I have never really focused on before, and although its all very new to me I really enjoyed it.

I know the design leaves a lot to be desired, apart from the impossibility of the thing actually taking off, the intake fan cuts through the cockpit :), there's no way to steer...and a whole bunch of other flaws but it was all pretty much a quick test project that got a little out of hand ;), and I liked the shape and I think it looks pretty quircky so im reasonably happy, its not quite finished yet, still gotta texture the inside of the fuselage and the bolts around the windows, plus dirty up the intake bezel a bit, but I think that will have to wait til my exams are over.

I have a little animation planned for this ship, just a sequence of in-flight shots and flybys, give me a chance to work on effects and particles to make the exhaust trail and such, should be fun.

Anyway, hope you like it and suggestions are allways welcome, here are some other shots and a 12meg 360 spin test render if you want to check it out from other angles.

I think it's an awesome little ship!!!

part of the fun of 3d animation is that we don't have to build things always make sense in the real world.

anyway, it's a great ship with a fun cartoon-like style to it. I think that if you put it in a really cartoon-like, simple scene for a flyby, etc. it would be a great work (and keep the hyper-realists off your back.)

by the way, the materials did turn out really nicely.

Human Torpedo :P Little boy and fat man, and you've got fat man there :D But nice, I like it, all the way. Nice modelling, very very nice texturing, great job.

I downloaded the 360 spin and it looks great. Awesome textures.

Where do you learn to texture like that, in a class?

thanks for the nice comments, nah I don't attend any 3d related classes, I just sat down with a goal in mind to improve my texturing and after a few trial and error attempts I got the hang of it and came up with something which I was pretty happy with, I spent about 2 days on the textures, of course I over-did the dirt a for practice but it turned out pretty nice,
