Hermes - beautiful modelling, love the star wars scene, really looks great!

Thanks!
I've particulary liked all the lego star wars entries and I wanted to collaborate to the cause with something ad hoc, hehe ;), very nice you like it!

Sorry for the delay.
Here they are. I didn't put all dimensions because they are the same as the other blocks.

Noyb - really nice model and render - what are the settings for the glass material :???: - it looks perfect :!!!:

The material has a white diffuse with a VRay refraction set at 85% (I have VRay free, so I don't have any IOR setting - this is my way of faking it)
The refraction has a very slight blue tint to it.
The reflection is VRay reflect set at about 10%

Hope that helps.

Well I really wanted to join in on this one but, it looks like it won't happen been so busy lately I haven't even got to check my personal email in a few days. I'll keep checking the forums as always they are great inspiration but right now the new job is taking alot out of me. Well not the new job but, all the driving involved in getting to it. Keep up the great work guys.

Here is my 3rd entry. It took a couple of tries to get all the parts done in one hour, but I really wanted to do this model.

DarthSjaak
07-06-2006, 03:09 PM
And here's the model: Lego Snowspeeder.

Truman
07-06-2006, 04:23 PM
this is going to be a podracer (Sebulba's one)

model: 3dsmax

ok here's my assembled model, spent ages tweaking the rendering :dunno:

Manni
07-06-2006, 07:48 PM
late but not too late, here is my model
didn't have time to tweak the rendering, but it shouldn't cause sore eyes, so i suppose it's okay

manni

edit: can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong if my attached images are only shown as links not the pics itself? thx

TheWinterLord
07-06-2006, 08:01 PM
Manni when you put 2 images they are shown as links its easier to just make to posts, each showing a picture.

DarthSjaak
07-06-2006, 08:06 PM

I think you should only attach one image per post.

DarthSjaak

This lego model uses a lot of the same bricks as the snowspeeder. So after all the practice with that one, this one was "easy".

DarthSjaak
07-06-2006, 08:13 PM
And here it is: Lego X-Wing

I think this sucks but I tried the challenge, which I found challenging, simply because I blew up all of my legos with lady-fingers and blackjacks. I never really built much. I liked Lincoln Logs. Hey now...there's a challenge!

pijp_CCCI
07-06-2006, 09:21 PM
And now...the finished Ambulance. Totally bummer render but I have no time. No time at all.

My parts.
Some of them lack some detail but I needed allot of parts so I sarcrificied individual detail for a more interesting final model. :)

Thanks, I did have to sacrifice some detail. I didn't model the underside of the bricks (like in your jeep).

I would have to agree. Very technical models. I fought most of the 60 minutes to get my dinky models (I also did not model the bottoms of the bricks).

Generally speaking, in this contest i’ve seen two kind of approaches: 1 group made a lego, with few pieces but dedicating to the details of those small parts; the other one made (few o many) pieces with a lack of details. I mean, ok, it’s a 800x600 render what you were asked, so the differences is not so noticeable, but the main thing to remember is this is a modeling contest, so I think one should look for quality and not (or not only) for making the biggest lego in the match.

So, anyways, this was a kind of little outburst just because I wanted to share my point of view…and now to compensate this I made a little tutorial about what I mean for a quality model VS a sloppy one… :D

I hope I didn't sound harsh, I really didn't meant to.

and part 2

DarthSjaak
09-06-2006, 12:29 PM
d3m0ni0: I agree with you, the edges of the lego bricks and how they catch the light make the bricks look more realistic. It's interesting to see how you modeled the legos. This is how I made them.

it lacks the highlight on the "cylinder" base in this way, but hey, its cool :D

not to speak about the fact that intersecting geometry may cause problem when you render with GI...

and last but not least, your tecnich doens't work for "trasparent" plastic lego

anyways, good try man

I just used boolean :P

Truman

I sure prefere the first way (with geometry, not the intersected one) mostly for the problem of traslucent pieces.
Anyway I think it's better if it's modelable, also for a some kind of personal challenge with ourselves.

great works after all :)

You're right about the problem with translucent pieces. I did model some translucent pieces (cockpit) but used a different method for those pieces. And the problem with intersecting geometry can easily be solved by using boolean objects (like LionFox said).

d3m0ni0
09-06-2006, 05:38 PM
yeah but I think everybody knows how much boolean suck and how the can completely f**k up the mesh, especially when we talk about 3d MAX.

For those of you who are interested, I did a tutorial on modeling Lego. You can find it here (http://67.15.36.49/team/Tutorials/snowspeeder/snowspeeder_01.asp).

Thanks Marty.
The original Lego challenge was what got me interested in modelling. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try this revisit.

Some really great models for this challenge.

DarthSjaak: I said it before, but... awesome model. Easily the best of this challenge in my opinion.

I agree with demonio too,, though i made my lego focusing on the whole thing and not in the parts, but it was mainly because the machine was going to get too slow with too many complicated parts. but I still agree with u, i prefer the models with less parts and more details.

thanks 4 the runner up.. congrats to the winners, really good models.
