Im making a small animation and its pretty hard to do because my viewports are so choppy. Its very hard to see movements that I have created.

My specs :
AMD 3700 @2.4ghz
1 gig of DDR ram
Geforce 6800 GS

And the only thing in the scene is a rigged robotic character ( 15 - 20 k polies) and a bunch of 6 poly boxes with crate textures on them..
I dont know why its so choppy, I can easily have a 200, 000 + poly object on screen with minimal lag...?

How do I decrease the choppyness?

Anyone? I turned my texture quality in the viewports down to 64 from 1024. Didnt help.

Try directx out, opengl is alittle more antialiased and it can gum things up. If that dosent work I would just turn of the textures in the viewport, you really dont need them there anyway.

it's a tough call to say what could be causing this really, could be Ram, could be your video card drivers, could be the animation itself, bones, smoothing on or off, reflections in a floor.
Could you give a few more details and we will try and help you better
