V2 Spaceship, confused on something

Im setting up the templates like Im suppose to, following the first part of the vid. But when he has to flip the template so it lines up with the underside and side view, he selects the poly and its red of course, but then he does something else and you can see the template again but its still selected, he then goes to add a unwrapuvw modifier to it. so here are my questions

1.) How do I get my template to be visible even after its selected?

2.) when I use the unwrapmodifier, nothing happens, it wont flip or anything, i try to move just one corner to see if it works but it doesnt budge, also in his unwrap modifer you see only view of the ship in mine, its tiled. any ideas?

ok i figured out the first question, still kind of curious about the seconf one though, but its less pressing
