if u notice, the hot and cold knob texture is at a diff tiling that the swivels they are attactched to. why is this? there is no scaling conflicts or uv mapping. the mats were simply applied to a poly selection. any idea why this is happening?

yes,it`s because it`s not mapped that it is happening.
give the cylindrical parts a cylinder mapping.
And in the uvwmap in the stack click the plus sign beside it and choose "gizmo"
Then use the scale tool on the gizmo to make the texture look like the rings.

Use "UNFOLD3D" for Uv mapping

By any chance, did you use the scale tool on your mesh? This sometimes causes the UVW's to get jacked up. 0_o .... if not, I dont know. :D
