are you making a death match level or a capture the flag.

Or are you just importing a character.

VinsanityV20

We have to make a whole level; I haven't even finished the 3DBuzz tutorials I got yet. I also have a class on digital mapping to attend to; this week that means I have to model a bust of a human head so we can unwrap and texture that. I just started drawing the model sheets for that today. Finally, I also have a job outside of school - seriously, I'd love to finish this, but it's not looking like I'll get the free time to finish this up by the 12th...

Frankly, I'm not taking to Unreal Editor very nicely either; which is the reason I have to put in the overtime... :dunno:

Sorry guys, I'm dropping out

sorry to see you go, but on a side note, when you start getting the hang of the UT editor, you will love it. Here's a tip for a capture the flag level, don't make the flag any bigger than it is. True a 200 foot red flag looks great, even when a guy is double jumping his way back to base with it, but it will slow the whole level down.

Thanks; I am making a CTF map too:) See you guys in another contest!! Good luck all!!

...

except RobbieK. I hope YOUR head bust and level blow ;P

Would you mind sharing a bit of that process with us? Im particularly intrigued by the way you made those fancy reflections on the cockpit!
Thanks :)
I just animated the model to spin 360 degrees, rendered it, added some glow in AE, rendered as a tiff-sequence, imported it in ImageReady and saved as gif :)
The cockpit is just a reflective/refractive material with an HDRI-enviroment and proper (i.e. both sides modeled) geometry ^^
Here's the material setup if you're interested :)

EDIT: oh and btw.. I dumped this concept and started a new one.. Previews to come shortly...

AlvinG: Thats certainly a very weird bike hehe, its a bike right? Very cool stuff.

Yes it's weird! I call it a 3-wheels car :smug:

I'm in troubles with normal map at moment. :wall:

I hope soon to find a right solution. :dunno:

Thykka

Here's my new concept!
Those turrets in the front aren't actually turrets, but retracting beams which are used to connect the vehicle to another similiar unit. This way long caravan-ish energy saving transport units can be formed.
It isn't necessarily a military vehicle. It's just painted in camo because everything in 3006 must be cool ;)

Still got lotsa tweaking to do + unwrapping + textures :S

OK. Here are a few sketches I came up with. I just imagine that far in the future will still be very stylish and refined. It's basically an anti-gravity vehicle. I just think to methods of propulsion will be vastly improved over the next thousand years. Any feed back would be great, but time is working against me.

hi,

entering a bit late, but i hope to be able to finish it.
the idea behing this was that in a thousand years land transport will still be necessary and big flexible transport vehicles will still be necessary. So this is my conecpt of one of them.
i'm currently still working on the modeling stuff and at 3600 triangles.

http://stud4.tuwien.ac.at/~e0125412/bug_test1.jpg

I'll be happy for any feedback and critique.

There are really great entries, and i'm looking forward to seeing them finished

Hi everyone, first comp here i suppose,

I guess I'll get right down to it:

My vehicle is a personal transport meant for space use only. Basically, everyone a thousand years in my view, will be living in colonies in space. Since space is so infinately huge, obviously there are dangers out there, so everything has to have at least some form of weaponry equipped. So here's my ship, equipped with a 4-barrel pulse cannon, and a railgun with a scanner attached, for more accuracy.

I call it.. umm... NEDM.

Ok, I'm tossing my hat into the ring. This is my wip so far. It's an anti-gravity car. I just think 1000 years from now everything will be sleek and stylish. I have a lot of catching up to do, but I've been able to capture the sculpted look I wanted with tons of triangles left over. Also without any refining of my model. My goal is to model the complete exterior in 2500 tri's. That gives me 2500 for eye candy.

Please, all feedback is welcome.

OnyxIdol: like your last post the most seems to really be coming together.

Some really nice and varied stuff being produced!

I dont think I'll get much more time to change my model unfortunatly, would like to do more work on the 'jet engine part' and add some fin like parts to the body, anyways here the wire and the normal and diff textures*. they are scaled down from 1024 x 1024.

Coridium:very nice model but in ur picture it says 4,608polys but that put in tris exceds the tris limit for this comp

That might be a triangle count. After all, a triangle is just a 3-sided polygon...

de4dy
10-11-2006, 07:16 AM
Yea but doesnt it usually say that?
Poly: xxxx
Vertex: xxxx
Tris: xxxx

P.s.
Just wanted to say that what i see so that if it isnt a tris that he has time to correct.

Coridium
10-11-2006, 01:02 PM
It is tri's, i'm using max 9 and the polycounter seems to have been removed or moved(I couldn't find it anyway). So I just pressed the hotkey '7' which displays the polycount in the viewport in the corner.

The object is in Editable mesh, which as I'm sure you know displays the tri count under the polys tab. When in editable poly it displays the quad count not the tri count.

See attached images...

I didn't vote for it, but I'll try to get it done. Hopefully this one will be more complete than my last minute entry for the monster contest...! Vehicle competitions always seem popular, but never pull that many entries. I think people tend to look at a vehicle as something easy to model, but it's difficult to get something that looks suitably balanced and hence is harder than you might expect it to be

Manni
10-11-2006, 08:58 PM
i'm trying desperately to get my thing finished, currently still missing some detail and a lot of lighting and setup for the final shot, which i hope i can do till tomorrow...

so far so good
i made some mistakes while unwrapping things and generally had the problem that i had to model/texture the inside of the stupid bug too, which cost a lot of polys and lots of texture space too...

xila

Manni i like the colors you have chosen and placement but some of a dmg and wear seems random and blurry to me. I would make more paint peeled away at the ground lvl because it seems like this thing would be scrapping around and bumping into sidewalks and stuff. and overall some of the texxtures look too airbrushed. maybe go back and use the same colors but use a textured brush in photoshop to crisp it up a tad. coming along though yay i like it cause its just silly and fun.

Coridium- looks great but like others have mentioned too much random dmg in the back section. like the colors and detail and overall shape. Would love to see a weapon system on there :P but i know time is always an issue hehe.

OnyxIdol- i like the design but to be honest i think the texturing needs work. it looks like a solid chunk of play-doh. i would love to see more organic sections defined to keep it "smooth" looking but still detailed...which is a challenge. The ship looks like its made for water travel, i almost see it being translucent/transparent in some areas and really glowy(because it needs to see in the dark areas of the ocean....i dunno. just a thought

Sorry forgot to say... thanks for all the comments that I received.

I have toned down the damage on the back of the ship, I agree with all of you was a little too much, have added a fin to the front and a jet like flame to the side. (This is only place holder, I would have prefered to use particals or some 'inengine effect' to create this.)

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
