I recently got my upgrade from Max 5 to 5.1.. and it has proved to be insanely annoying!

I've had it deciding to flip a load of Normals, completely randomly and different Polys each time i render. It has also developed a charming habit of exploding my mesh all over the screen.. but only in the bottom right view-port..

Of course there are temporary work-arounds but I don't want to use a handicap, 3-viewport, unpredictable and moody version of Max untill there's a new up-grade!

All I can find on the net is that 5.1 is supposed to be a bug-fix!!!!

I'll stop right there.

I've found 5.1 to be very stable and haven't experienced any bugs. Maybe you just need to do a fresh install.

hey, the exploding mesh thing is on an animated model right. For a work-around (I know you don't like them, I don't either, but 5.1 fixed more than it broke imo) I think setting keyframes on all animated ojects at 0 will solve your problem.

EDIT: DoH! What I MEANT was, set a keyframe for your mesh at frame 0, not all the animated parts......just your mesh, and that should keep it from exploding I think.

Well, the exploding mesh happened with simple Lofting.. I know that lofting can be a bit unpredictable anyway, but it's happens way more than it did with Max 5.

Also, I've now had a problem with that bottom right view-port refusing to render properly, especially with Multi-Sub Object materials. It'll render differently each time I try it.

Looks like I will try re-installing Jenn!
