those textures look like a combination of photographed textures and some hand painted in photoshop to me
Umm you need to specify what program(s) you want to use to get that done.
I see really good use of GI or fake GI going on there, with light bouncing on the boys face, excellent use of textures, film noise, motion blur, and lighting.

Sorry I use Maya, and they also used Maya to create those renders. I was just wondering how
Complex lighting, especially on the boys face. If you look, lights bouncing, so its definetly using some light scattering shader, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the snow also used the same type of shader.

Thanks Old Nick, but do I need to get mental Ray for Maya 7? That tutorial was extremely confusing to me, but had alot of good information. I just want to know what lights and what settings really to acheive that level of global illumination.

Corey: Mental ray is included in maya 7, go to render globals, at the
top, in Render using: scroll-down-menu select mental ray
if it isn't there, means MR is not loaded, so go to: window > settings and preferences > plug-in manager, find Mayatomr.mll and check load and autoload. Now if go to render globals again mental ray should be there.
There are a lot of tutorials around

hope this helps
