I hope you like it.

By the way, the character was designed and modeled by Roque Papa, not me; I just did the rig and animation. Credit where credit is due!

Terrarist, IŽve tried to download your animation a dozen times already, but I always get an error saying that the assigned download slots for my country are in use, would it be too much trouble for you to upload it on another server?

Hello all,
Didn't get a chance to do what I wanted to with Joe this challenge. Bit of lack of motivation after last time too. Didn't bother animating the cape much either. When I worked out the run, I had 6 keyframes in 10 frames, so I made the whole step 60 frames (5 frames per key), 180 frames for the whole thing, and then sped it up by 300% in Premiere (hence the blur effect). Did a lot of copying values to make the steps uniform and symetrical.

Wow! Nice job everyone! Way to step up and represent!
Now I feel guilty about not doing the scene I wanted to do (I'll give you a hint... I now have a version of IK Joe in a suit with a fedora and a pair of fake glasses), or at least putting more effort into the cape. Oh well, at least I'm motivated to kick it up a notch again next time.
Perhaps Joe Kent will make an appearance...

Voting was difficult since they're all really good. Some of the things that helped narrow it down were weight transference (particularly latteral), and hip/shoulder counter twisting.

1st: Goig!
2nd: AmirP
3rd: Diabolos

Once again, great job all, looking forward to the next challenge.

IŽll have to decline to vote, I usually donŽt do that when IŽm part of a competition. However I think IŽll make some comments for each animation after the voting is up.

Hello :),

Again I did't come in shame to me ... Atleas I'll try to vote ...

Is verry dificult, all animation are good and funny in theyr way and 6-7 of them I can't realy separate them ... so maybe I will make mistake because maybe for me one animation look good but for an trained eye is full of bugs, so don't curse me :D

Ok I write the lines above after watching 2 times the aniamtions, now when I watch them again and again to make a votes list I think I will not vote, because I can't really make diferances between couples of clips.

I think we shood talk and come with an list of guide lines after what shood we look to vote because in this competition I hit myself on couples of problems.

If I vote the clips that are acurate in moving, I cood easy mistake casue i not know aniamtion rules, and because i can;t aniamte i cood realy make mistake in seeing bugs and errors, and things that look ok for me maybe are wrong...

If I vote what i like most, then maybe I vote an aniamtion that is not so good and corect but i find it cool, funny etc...but we are here to learn so if we are judge like this will not learn to aniamte correct ... but if i judge like this I cood be shore cause I AM NOT WRONG cause noboy cood tell me I am wrong sayng I like best that clip..cause is my opinion so nobody cood question that...

so what shood we look for ? ...

good question Hammering. To best answer it: look for the best, if the comp is a run, then the best animation should look like a run, not someone walking fast, or skipping in place. But running. If the comp is a jump, then look at the jump as if it was a real person, keep an eye on all the movements, placment of joints, bends in the back, location of the bodies weight. In the end, if it doesn't look real, then the desicions is made for you.

I do understand gwhat your saying, like if I do a real cartoony run and you do a human run, how can someone judge the two. In that case it comes down to what they like better. The learning part should come from the doing, and asking questions. You should get all the questions and answers out the way before you post your final entry.

So for this next comp, lets do something alittle more focused, where everyone will be animating the same thing. Then when we judge, it will be that much easier to say that one looks better, or that one is more believable.

So all I need to do, is get the comp up and running.

Tweaked the run a little bit: smoothed the head and hand movement, cycled the cape, added more lateral hip shift. Also reduced it down to 10 frames/step in Maya as opposed to Premiere.
Not intended to replace my entry, just wanted to get it done.

Fixed Run Cycle (http://www.schafferworld.com/movies/ds_run_fixed.mov)

Thanks for the votes, by the way! :)
