max wont load files :(

i got max 5 now, and when i load up max (blank plane no geometry) te matirials in the matiral editor are all white.. I have to reset my max everry time i start it other wise the colors dont work right in the matiral editor...but my biggest problem is when i try to load up a saved max file....it just crashes when i try to...so i have to merge all my created geometry into a new file to work on it....and I loose all my effect set-up and matirial set ups...anyone had this problem(s)?

i'm not sure i understand

when i start up max my material editor is all just gray spheres. nothing is there cuz i've made no materials.

also your problem with the max file not loading. its that just one max file or every max file you've tried. if its just one it could be that one is somehow corrupt. if its every max file then i'd say you have a bigger problem and should maybe try to reinstall max.

i guess you could try to upgrade to 5.1, its a free download off the discreet site. if that doesn't work, then i think you might be sol and might need to reinstall or worse....reinstall windows. i've had max crash so hard that the only way for me to get it to work again was to reinstall win2k.

hey i had that problem before a couple of times actually the first it was my crappy video card kept crashign that so i change the settigns to heidi until i got a new one, then later it was my hdd. it installed max of soem bad sectors so i had to reinstall....hopefully that will help you
