I've got an an extra monitor here and i would really like to be able to set it up with Max.

I've been able to move floating windows into it no probs, material bar etc. but what i would really like to have is a huge perspective view over there separate to my main view.

Is there a way to get a floating perspective view? If not is there another way to do it?

And if not can someone please tell me what useful purpose (if any) having a second monitor is supposed to serve?

thanks

Well, you can move material window, floating toolbars and other stuff on second monitor, as you have said. I don't know about floating perspective view, but it's great idea. Second monitor purpose is extended working area, and i found it very helpful.

doh! I was afraid that would be the case.

So far it seems easier to me to just minimize one thing and work on another, although it could just be i am not yet accustomed to turning my head to the second display but I find it very weird.

Hey Kitten,

Floating viewports don't exist.. But what you can do is what Cracadoo already was saying
It's verry helpfull.. Just pull the floating toolbars to the other screen...

Well, if you are making texture in photoshop, you can put photoshop on one monitor, and 3ds max on other, so you can have better insight of what you're doing (you would have to save and alt+tab in order to see updated map on model, but it's still very helpful). I like having two monitors :) At leest, you can see winamp playlist at every time ;)
