every new members first 5 posts,go into a daily database. These posts are then monitored,if they are relevant to this forum then they are posted,if not they get deleted before post.
Existing members after 5 posts don`t have to use this.
Spammers rely on 1 post only, they won`t wade through 5 posts to make their point.
An easy solution and other forums do it...think about it:)

Good thought, though I don't quite see the spamming problem in this forum. Everyone is enthusiastic to learn and ask, making Threedy one of the best 3D beginners' forum.

it happens, the mods just delete them.
This idea would kill them before they even see the light of day:)

its true, we get spam, mainly selling cell phones, but we try to delete it as soon as we can. Maybe one of the programmers can add that to the list of upgrades.

I just swept up about 6 spam messages posted to the forums over the last 3 days. We MUST implement a solution before we drown in it.
I hate it, but we might have to use some kind of "buffer" to keep people's initial posts from being absurd:
1. For 3 posts, a user's replies or threads must be approved.
2. For 3 posts, if any of them are spam, the user's IP is banned. It should be easy and surgical to do this- like 1 button. I currently can't ban members at all!
I think this would cut down the spam significantly since bots seem to post only a few at a time. It would be easier to clamp down on a spammer with a 1 or 2 button kill-switch.

That would be a smart idea (Brentagain), have a sandbox forum thats just for newbies, then when they've said hello (2-3 posts) they are allowed onto the rest of the forums. Of course that forum might get spammed but its better than the current situation.
Does this forum have one of those 'enter the code' things? (I did it way back in 2002 so don't really remember :p) If it does it indicates that these are actual people and not bots. Are they all coming from a similar place/IP? In which case you could ban an IP range with a webmaster address for those who genuinely want to access the forums.
I agree that the admins looking after the actual forums should be allowed to ban!
Out of curiosity, will the forum be upgraded soon?

Briefly, the "enter the code you see" method doesn't work any more.
Here's how they do it:
A website sets itself up to provide something free to users; pornography, software, games, whatever. When you get there wanting free content, they have already signed up 99% of the way for a forums.3dtotal.com, gmail.com, or whatever.com account. Everything except that "enter the code" part.
They then drag the image to their own web-site so that when you want to get to the "goodies" they say "enter the code". Little do you know, the code you're entering is what they need to create an account somewhere to make peoples' lives miserable.
It's quite smart. And horrible.

Wow, that is smart, it means they don't need to actually pay anyone.
So rapidshare does this?

wait, wait, wait, so GuyBlue, your saying that everytime I fill in one of those, I'm metaphorically kicking Santa Claus, in the nuts?
