View Full Version : SG Guitar

I am modeling this guitar for couple day now. Im almost finished with it. The materials are not final I must improve them. I also plan to make a Marshall amplifier to put it beside guitar. Soo tell me what u guys think.

It's a little dark, and for some reason your top render didn't have the inlays. It definitely looks like an SG though. Don't forget the rest of the headstock and it should look quite nice.
09-12-2006, 03:27 AM
Hehe, i doesnt have inlays because I didn`t make them when I was rendering that picture, i made them later. I started modeling the amplifier. I`m adding the link to refference, it might be useful for someone
Also posting some new renders of guitar`s head, and some details
Must say again that material are far from finished. Ok .

Yup, it's a Gibson SG alright. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the pickguard is a multi-layer laminate, and some of the corners (particularly in the 3rd shot) show some of the underlying topology. At a distance I'm sure it's fine, but if it's to be showed up that close, it needs a little bit of work to smooth it out. Other than those tiny details, it's coming along quite nicely.

Posting this picture just to let u know that i`m still working on that scene and to let u see where i am at. All comment are wellcome.

That varies. Some models have a clear coat on it. However, I thought gibson did diamond shaped inlays. Then again I could just be imagining things. Wouldn't be the first time. Nice job with the preamp and speaker. It could use a bit brighter lighting though and your shadows are a bit harsh.

Im back with some new renders. first two pictures are renderder just with final gather, but in the third picture i am trying to get that GI look. I dont know if it works well, so i need yours opinion.

cmon people i neeed some comments bad or good, doesnt`t mather.
It looks good, the first image at least.
I don't really get the point of the second and third image.
One thing I think you need to work on is shadowing. Have you tried using Area shadows? These will give more of a realistic look, because they'll fade out, and be stronger when closer to an object, and won't look flat.
A bit more lighting changes could make this piece look very realistic indeed.
One thing I do suggest is to put the plucks (not sure of their exact name) somewhere else, because having all 3 of them like that seems too planned out.

but I think, in stead of that ACDC poster, make it a Metallica poster ;)
01-02-2007, 11:24 PM
Thanks for comments. I`m soo bad at lightening and stuuf like that. Been working on that project for way too long, hope it will be finnished soon

05-02-2007, 01:47 AM
Made this render, I dont know why there are no shadows , but there is matallica poster on the wall :D Im kinda moving back and forward with renders quality. Thanks for comments, realy apreciated. Bye
13-02-2007, 01:38 AM
Another update, hope u like it.
13-02-2007, 03:35 AM
This is looking better and better. It looks like the walls reflectivity settings are a bit high. If you want some lighting help, take a snap shot of the lighting set up and post it. Maybe someone will help you out...
13-02-2007, 07:40 PM
OK here`s the situation, hope someone can help, I`d be very happy :D
03-04-2007, 12:16 PM
I transfered the scene in Cinema, to get better results, still it is not finnished but i think Its getting there.
All comments apreciated.
03-04-2007, 03:56 PM
what does that half dome do?
03-04-2007, 08:55 PM
Half dome was ment to be the light source, like sun. bye
05-04-2007, 01:24 PM
nice work...i've model a guitar too..ckeck it...
i've made it in 3d studio max 7...
That kind of thing Tig3r_3D is frowned upon. Create your own thread please.
NeXt 0ne, its looking good. Maybe you should zoom in a bit more, removing some of the floor that you don't need to see from view. I think, it'll improve the look of the render then, because at the moment, it looks like theres tonnes of wasted space.
05-04-2007, 06:12 PM
k...sorry my friend but i just whant to tell u that i have modeled a guitar too...:)
have a nice day...;)
05-04-2007, 10:16 PM
No need to apologise mate, i like your guitar, but i think the collors are too cartonish for my taste. Is it bass guitar you modeled ? Cose i cant see the biger image, it doesnt open. I like how you have some more objects in the scene, thats the thing I should do, and i will :P. I ll be soon here with some updates. Sorry for my English, hope you understand what i am writing :P
07-04-2007, 07:24 PM
k my friend i understand u...:)
try to search on google for a fur tutorial in cinema...i did that to, but vray fur tutorial...i find some nice tut...go check it u too:)
and about my guitar...that a closed and old project om mine...so..;)
08-04-2007, 01:44 AM
wow... nice guitar. love the materials and the modeling looks good. The render is a bit grainy, but i guess that's just to save render time... passes or something :)
I think one or two of the picks would look good protruding from underneath the
pickguard/scratchguard, but that's prolly just a matter of personal preference :P
08-04-2007, 01:48 AM
Hmmm, pretty good idea, or if I put one pick betwen the strings. Thanks for comments, I am starting to get realy proud :D
01-08-2007, 07:18 PM
Hi, i started all over again with guitar, but i left amplifier the same. Did a little improvement on the lightning. Well maybe i am wrong, but i think its better than anyother i posted. Please tell me what to add to the scene, what u think about rug, or anything :D
02-08-2007, 10:33 AM
Because you asked :P i think the rug is ... well... how to say properly.. i think it's ugly not in sence of not realitic but i just don't like flower paterns. and it draws to much attention to itself. the guitar and all look great though ;)
02-08-2007, 12:57 PM
Thanks, what do u think would look better on the rug? just your opinion. to all
02-08-2007, 01:15 PM
I think a Bamboo rug should fit really wel, since it matches the floor, and then the attention goes more to the guitar and that's what it is about. this is a close up from a Bamboo rug:
19-05-2008, 03:15 PM
Definitely improving, but the lightning is still not perfect. The wall looks kinda reflective, cause your models cast something like an anti-shadow. Keep trying.
BTW: Hetfield plays Gibsons, but no SG. So having Angus Young on the wall, was definitely the better choice.
19-05-2008, 04:13 PM
thanks for comment. I must finnish this scene, maybe i will combine it with my first interior. that'd kill two bugs at once :D
23-05-2009, 12:24 PM
I recently pulled this model out of the line, and started to work on it once again. Please fell free to coment it or just give your 2 cents.
31-05-2009, 09:28 PM
Chenge the lightening, played with materials, and this came out. Please drop by and say a word an two.
01-06-2009, 09:23 PM
Yea it was nice amplifier, but instead o decided to model amplifier that i actualy have. To go along with guitar that i wanna have :D
04-06-2009, 10:08 PM
05-06-2009, 08:01 AM
Nice model dude! Gibson is da law!
I'm going to buy a Gibson Thunderbird IV soon :D Wanna do one of those?
05-06-2009, 08:53 PM
nah, i dont like the shape of this Gibson Thunderbird IV , is't it a base guitar anyway? I wil let you to model it. :smug:
27-06-2009, 08:33 PM
Some more. btw DaddyDoom, i am waiting for your thunderbird renders :P
01-07-2009, 06:31 PM
I puled this in another direction, as i got a idea, i wanted to evolve.
06-07-2009, 04:08 PM
I didn't really want to make a guitar hero guitar. My intentions was, that guitar was in proces of transforming into one, and those strings broken and parts lying around are consequence of that. You can see those Cd-s at the amplifier, they are from few bands that their music is in guitar hero. And money on the floor was ment to tell you, that they sold them to big companies, comercializing their music. Anyhow, i wanted to give a normal pic. with amp. a deeper meaning.
12-07-2009, 12:23 PM
What you think.
12-07-2009, 12:23 PM
Damn thats nice, i wish i could render like that. O_O
Ace bro, i like it alot.
12-07-2009, 12:24 PM
dont stop rendering, and it will happen, eventualy. If you dont belive, have a look at first renders in this thread. :D tnx
12-07-2009, 12:27 PM
True, although still better than what i can, i used to be good at materials and stuff but after my break i lost the touch, maybe it will come back to how i was and then i can render very nice scenes. :D
13-07-2009, 07:12 AM
Nicely done and it looks great..
21-07-2009, 10:26 PM
Thanks for comments guys. Here is some more, i tweaked some materials and floor tex .
21-07-2009, 10:40 PM
It looks awesome!
just some crits, I think yo need to work a little more the plastics of the mic stand, and also the material of the guitar, remember that guitars usually are covered by a resin that is very reflective, but it is on top of wood that is very angle dependent on the reflection (BRDF) I think a layered material, or the mia_material would do great.
I really dig the floor, it looks awesome!!!
Its just a crit, feel free to throw it away, I am no expert =]
22-07-2009, 09:34 AM
+1 on the floor, looks spot on. The sheet of paper on the amp looks strange, there's no way you can get an angle like that with regular paper. Try it at home, you will see the paper only bends a little but not 90 degree angle.
Great render mate. What are you using now? Maya? Cinema?
22-07-2009, 10:11 AM
Thanks guys!, some really usefull critics. i am using Cinema 4d with advaced render.
Looks great so far.
Some things I would like to see:
A bigger amp
More interesting background
New camera angle
More beer bottles
