View Full Version : Little help.. ( Alor wing and furrow )

I've hit a snag with the eva DVD( which i'm enjoying a tonne btw ). The fourth video entitled "Alor wing and furrow" plays but its in a teeny-tiny window and I only get audio for about 10 seconds. I hit refresh a few times as is the suggestion if problems occur but so far that hasn't solved it. Has anybody else encountered this and if so, do you know a solution?
The video's before it work as do a lot of the ones after. I watched most of them before I started, skipping some etc etc, just to get the lay of the land.
Ex. of the problem:

Weird! I don't know what could be causing that. I'll get one of the boys onto it. :)

Hi,
I am playing the file ok here. Please try downloading this file to see if it
works any better. Right click and 'save as' as it is a .swf file and may try and play in your browser. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Strange. Attempting to play it directly in firefox makes the window bigger again, but the sound still cuts out. It gets to the part where MonteCristo( I assume its you man ) says "Right, now, what we're going to do next". Then the entire video freezes. I have triple checked my version of FlashPlayer and it is current. I can't get it working in Swiff Player either - I just get a white screen.
To be honest my system has been a little bit groggy recently. So its probably something on my end. If you guys can't replicate the problem then I wouldn't worry about it. I can't relay my system until Saturday. But I will post again then to let you know if the problem has vanished ;).
Thanks again for the DVD, I do have something resembling a nose so far( even if I have made mistakes - its currently quite fat and looking oddly Orcish :haha: ).

No Worries. let me know if you solve the issue.
BTW: we could always create an eva-ork army to freak everyone out!

Hey, Arius, you did use the Stater_01.max file to begin with, right? That box with al the views should prevent you going too far astray. :)
Sorry about this weird problem you are having. I really have no idea what could be causing it.... :(

Althought the DVD's were tested thouroughly by several people before release, we do come across the occasional system config which throws up the inevitable 'ghost in the machine'. The DVD's are replicated from a glass master which means they are all identical , but only a few people have these problems so it unfortunately points to the individual machines used. We are however happy to deal with these issue by sending download links to broken files or unplayable audio etc. Please just let me know in this forum and I will post the links.
Thanks again for all-round patience ;-)

Hey guys,
Sorry I took so long to get back to you. December is a busy month for me, my birthday, then of course Christmas etc etc. I reinstalled this morning and the issue still persists. An yes Monte, I did use the starter file. An I must say, thanks for adding the wire mat - thats a stroke of genius in terms of helping a newbie like me. Its very easy for me to go astray, even with your superb tutalige(sp). In addition to the reinstall I also got a new card this morning, X1950. My previous card was an x800. So perhaps its an ATI issue or something. I don't know. But yes Ben, it would be fantastic if you could provide me with another copy of the video in question. An there is no need to thank me for my patience, i'm a programmer by trade so i'm aware of the spanner-in-the-works issues that can appear in some systems at random. Its really no bother at all ;).

Still the same thing. It runs on my brothers system. I'll keep tinkering as its obviously something in my system setup. I'll let you know if I find a good solution. ;)

Hey, have you tried playing it in different browsers...? Firefox? Internet explorer? Netscape... (does anyone use that anymore?) Maybe it's a browser issue.
--edit-- looking at your image, I see you are using firefox. Try IE and see if it solves the problem...

I've tried in Firefox(firefox is netscrape ;) ) and also IE. I've literally just installed Vista. So i'll give it a go now.
Edit:
Yea, works Vista/Firefox. My XP setup was a little unorthodox( it was a special dev version - don't ask ). So hopefully nobody else comes across this issue. Apologies for anybody else having this issue, but despite my usual debugging goodness, webapps, flash in particular, are not my forte. I would've liked to of gotten to the bottom of it.
Thanks again for all your help guys and of course the wonderful DVD. ;)

Tell me about it.....its bugging me no end but it happens so rarely its difficult to pinpoint the exact problem. Getting more definite about the browser issue though.
Thanks again.

Hi,
This is problem with your customized setting in 3DStudio Max.
1. Open max and go to Customize : Preferences on the main menu bar along the top.
2. Select the Viewports tab and then on Configure Driver tab at the very bottom.
3. Now check the two tick boxes " Match Bitmap as Close as Possible" in the Appearance Preferences.
4. Click on OK and then open the max file again.
When you zoom in the image should be of a higher resolution.
Hope this sorts out your problem,

i get the same results with that file as well. i dont know much about flash, but it seems to be acting like its corrupt in some way, with ie and wmpc not even being able to open it, but that dosent explain why i have problems with it and you dont. would it be possible to do a quick re-encode or something?

Hi,
It must be a configuration thing in your system i guess. Have you got the latest version of flash player and the browsers?

When I open up all other files other than section 2 movie 4, they work fine. I've downloaded the movie from each of the links provided and it still doesnt work. I've removed and reinstalled my flash player and I open them in IE ver 7.0.5730.11 and Firefox ver 2.0.0.1. What I get is about 1 sec worth of video and sound and then nothing at all.
Hmmm, well I'm trying different thigns as I'm typing this. I've got something. When I play the video, I get about 1 sec worth of vide adn sound like I said. If I hit refresh, it starts over and I get the same thing. I hit refresh again and then quickly clicked stop before the video stopped and now the video is playing through normally. if I hit refresh again, it goes back to the original problem. Maybe this will get the others running on that video.

Hi,
Our biggest problem is that with all those thousands of different systems out there we were bound to get some problems. We have had a new pressing of the v1 DVD and I have tried my best to limit any problems such as this. If you would like a copy of this new DVD, please contactcdsupport (cdmonkey@3dtotal.com) with your address details and we will get another sent to you. Of course, this only applies to existing customers of the DVD. New customers will automatically recieve this new DVD.
Thanks
