Ok, Final Entry Time. Please read and follow the requirements.

Final Pictures:

Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry):

- (2) Winning shots of the Environment and Character.

- (2) Beauty shots (separate) of your character and environment. Feel free to put multiple angles of your character or just one big version or your character on this page, same for the environment. Even better, try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the Winners' Gallery. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you.

- (1) wireframe shot of your character and environment. Feel free to put multiple wireframe shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you. Must have polycount included.

- 1 x texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet.

- Concept Sheet (Only if you have a concept)


If you want your entry to count you must have all of the above. If you do not, you will not get any votes.


Due Date remains Sunday December 31st, 12 midnight

Alright, I guess now’s a good time before the flood of entries ;) My entry for the contest is based on a wood elf, along with several others, who watches over an expanse of forest that protects their sanctuary from the outside world. Passing through the forest is the only means of getting in and out, but the wood elves patrolling the thickets makes sure that no outsider sees only but a few stone throws into the area.

Well I had fun while modelling and texturing. There was a lot of things that I picked up on, especially on the stuff not to do next time.

Manni:In ur model and final render it seams like it is all made out of plastic or some polished material too much shine.

BiG ToE-3DT:You had a very nice idea but the final result didnt do it for me the model could use some more work on the textures and the background is just wrong it lacks detail and some colors are wrong.

hope i didnt offend anybody this is just what i think.And if there are some grammer mistakes sorry.

Concept (10-10) My only complaint is that you failed to include those kick ass flags in your winning shot. The rest is amazing, the color contrast literally sucks you in. You managed to use your portrait layout to your advantage and pulled off a god damn impressive composition, For everyone else, look at his model's pose, that is character. Good JOB!

Model (10-10) Your topology is there, and the proportions are just right. Awesome control.

Textures (10-10) They pop, they're dirty, and you got your lighting setup to show it off CHEERS!

Concept (8-10) Your got all the ingredients there but you failed to use them to create something with character. Try to break things up move your character to either side of the composition.
Model (9-10) Solid but the pose lacks character.
Textures (10-10) AMAZING JOB, This is by far your strongest skill.

Concept (9-10) Great compositions, oozing with character I must say. What would have been really cool was to use your 2nd shot and model a light above him to give him some pop!

Textures (7-10) They textures themselves are great but you failed to properly light your main subject, so instead of being the main subject he is fighting for attention because he is so dark and his environment is visually overpowering him

First Place- yoyomon 24

Concept (8) – I liked the idea of having a hidden village in the leafs, and needing a guardian/protector, to guard/protect it. You took the topic of gatekeeper to another level by doing so.
Model (8) – your model has nice mesh flow, and you use your poly’s wisely.
Textures (8) – your textures look great, they match the concept drawing perfectly. My only crit would be the renders. I know it’s a forest and the lighting is dim, but it would have been nice to really see your character in its environment.

Second Place- freesupra 23

Concept (8) – your concept is a lot like mine, and since I can’t vote for myself, haha. Seriously, the concept is good. I like the way you took the idea of a troll hiding under a bridge and you twisted it. Now he pa”troll”s the bridge.
Model (8) – great use of poly’s, and mesh flow is great as well. You came way under budget. If you had more time/started sooner, I wonder what you could have done with almost 4000 tris.
Textures (7) – I think this was the weak point of your entry. Knowing how hard it is to squeeze the ground into a 1024 texture map, I still would have liked to see some more variation on the dirt. The scale seems off some too. You can hide that by adding more dirt layers on top.

Third Place- shadowbreeze 23

Concept (6) – You idea fit the topic of the competition, but I would have liked to see you take it to the next level.
Model (8) – The models are fine, everything looks like what it’s supposed to look like. My only problem is the final pose. You did one, and that one looks like you just modeled him in the position, instead of rigging him. You had a chance to pose your character and really show some attitude, and I think that is what is missing.
Textures (9) – Textures are great, looks like you painted it in Zbrush, which isn’t a bad thing. But you said you did it in Photoshop. Good job.

Agent – X, I couldn’t vote for because you left out a few items listed. The first thing and the most important was the tri count. It’s hard to tell if you came in under the limit without a counter. Usually I would bother with this because I could just go into the w.i.p thread and look for your counts there, but I noticed you added a few things since then. Another thing you left out was the separate beauty shots, both of your beauty shots had both character and environment.

Manni, I wanted to vote for you but it was hard. A few things stood out to me, like the fact that your character wasn’t really protecting or guarding anything, but luring in people. The opposite of everyone else. Which makes your entry stand out from the rest, but the cartoony textures didn’t do it for me.

ok hey BIG TOE NO i did use PHOTOSHOP, i have not figured out how to use Zbrush for texturing, i only use it for high poly stuff. but hey i can't i guess it's just my word and well you don't know me so oh well.

I think you could have added some specular maps and normal maps on some of the other items ShadowBreeze. I have no complaints with your work. Well done my friend. You deserve it. The bell, you are going to have to explain the bell thing to me. :) The character is highly detailed. Its very unique. There Arent many Austrailian characters that I have recalled playing. Good job. Tips my hat off to ya.

Here is my final polycount. I decided to get rid of the interior of the mouth.
The textures I used I know the sky looks like 2 1024, but I assure you it was 2 512x512 together when I was resizing them in photoshop so they would all fit on one sheet, I just made them the same size for the thumbnails, because I knew I had so many textures, but I also wanted to make sure that you could atleast see em. I had shrunk the helmet and sword texture to a 512, so I could have a 512x1024 for the sky and a 512x512 for the rock texture that I have on the floor, which I used as a tileable texture.

Big Toe, I like your character too. Stylized cartoony looking character.

I learned alot about normal mapping through this contest. Ill be honest, I learned some things that I know I will not do again for normal mapping. Thats a cool thing about these contests is that you learn as ya do more and more models. Each time ya do one ya get a little better and learn that much more. Well done to all those that completed.
I realized that forgot to include my polycount so I will provide you a shot of the polycount with the mouth cavity removed.

-Great idea i dont usually like it when people hide part of the face. But you actually modelled and texture it anyway, after all its game art and what if the hud came off. Very loose use of the gate keeper idea but i think it still fits.
