Yhea, I think I saw this one on the CGnetwork´s gallery right?
Great work, it has a real D&D feeling to it! I specially dig the wings.

What soft did you use?

You´re right. Posted it a short while ago on cgtalk.
I used Maya (default renderer) and for texturing both DeepPaint3D and Photoshop.

Interesting, I absolutely had those D&D covers (from the Hardcovered books) in mind, when I started this still. :D

Beautiful scene, and fantastic texturing!

Very D&D, so you succeeded on that score!

Only crit I have is that on the right side of the pic some of the gold coins are stuck into the wall a bit.

I'd perhaps brighten the eyes a bit: the mouth is a focus of the picture and the eyes are lost in the haze. If that's what you wanted then cool: I just figure the creature's eyes should tell us a lot, too.

Ganz gut!

Fantastic, but I don't agree withe the ground texture, it's too colorfull, it looks like it's made of gold!

Haha, then you are right on spot! I can totally see that on the next D&D expansion book (wich would be number 356,75BIS).

And I have a tip request too: is DeepPaint 3D really usefull? I heard it´s kinda hard to just paint right on the models....
(Also, I though Maya did the whole paint right on the polys natively, why didn´t you used that?)

Thanks for all the nice comments so far.

@Rinne: Sorry, bin nicht in ICQ, kann dir da also nicht
weiterhelfen.

@Kit: Thanks, would be great to be on a D&D series book.

@rage: For the still I did only a rough rig on the dragon, later on
my friend leif arne petersen built a more complex rig for
the dragon. (we did a short animation with the dragons,
which you can download on my homepage). All I can say
is: A LOT OF BONES. Some more informations on

making of (http://www.cgeye.de/DragonsMOF/DragonMOF01.htm)

I reminds me of the artwork that Games Workshop used for their fantasy-board game boxes, like Talisman and dungeon quest.

I like it very much!!!

wow!

Thanks synkronizer! I liked those a lot. Whe I started with the dragon I took these images as an inspiration as well as some other fantastic pics from the web.

@GI2eEn: What castle do you mean? The one in our short
animation dragons (http://www.pocketmovies.net/detail_259.html) or the pillars in the back of the dragon on the still?

@Rinne: not only a bump map but a color map and shininess
map as well. :)

@Camilus: We already animated the dragons for our short called
dragons, which was on cgnetworks quite a while ago.
If you want to take a look at just klick here (http://www.pocketmovies.net/detail_259.html)

Hey

Very nice dragon, that is for sure, but i don't like the gold. It just doesn't look right.
About the filmschool, i also wanted to study there, but it is way to expensive for me. You must be very rich or extremely talented. You are a very lucky guy :D:D:D:D:D

I know this is a bit late now (9 Months? :D )

But just a question no one asked here:

Did you win the competition?

Hehe, would be nice to see some more of your work here, you have lots of other great stuff on your homepage :)

Thanks for the compliment Zocky.

No I didn´t win something in this competition with the dragon picture. But that doesn´t matter for me that much. As long as people like my work I´m happy and I´ll go.
And thank you a lot for taking a look at the other work on my homepage.

Everyone who´s interested is totally welcome to take a look on
my other projects (http://www.huppi.de)

Cheers,

Alex

I was just curios: How did you make those gold coins?

Hugh P. Rich
26-12-2003, 10:13 AM
Just a texture on some geometrie and a bit of work ontop in Photoshop. That´s it.

Cheers,
Alex

The image is fantastic, but your 'dragons' movie is even better :) One question if you don't mind. How did you make the underwater thingie when one dragon falls into the water in the movie? I'm a n00b :o
