Default here, and apparently i've been killed and reincarnated as a machine, which is about the equivalent of being drafted. so eh, i'm here. Get with it people!

Hi

hi
well, i'm no good with machines as you all may know... so i'll again be taking more unconventional approach. i'm doing the roughest possible sketches, then i'm going straight to 3D, inorganic stuff works better for me that way. heres the first:
Line Breakers:
appears in small groups of four or five, and storms a location by using speed and equipment like specialized battering rams, prefab walls for building fortifications, and other such stuff. speed and maneuverability being most important, they are slimmed down, have a small profile, and will have longer legs and arms than an average human. it's going to have open muscle on the back, and neck, and probably biceps. since armor is heavy, and their lives aren't important, they don't wear it any.
the key strategy of a squad is to break the front line, get behind the enemy, and set up a fortification. from that point, they move even farther forward, while another team of breakers moves up behind them, into that stronghold. and the cycle continues until the enemy is surrounded.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/defaultalias/WAR/mech-2.jpg
second:
no story yet... probably heavy armor following the breakers.

Awsome concepts as normal are you going to be using actual muscle for these guys or some kinda alloy-mesh robo muscle stuff?

i really don't know yet
Yeah, just remember that our models have to be based on machines / Cyborgs...As they'res already an Alien race. Not that it looks like a fleshy alien or anything, but you get my drift :)
defaultalias
05-02-2007, 05:31 PM
it is, don't worry. remember, rough sketch, not final or anything. i'm not even sure if i'm going to go with this or not. but we can show some flesh, and if it's only on the back and neck for decoration, it should be ok.

20% meat huh, sounds doable. i'm still brain storming, but i like this idea.

Very nice, I really like how you have your own style that whenever someone sees your model/concept they know it has to have been done by you.
I like the pose you've done that concept with as well, very intimadating if it was lurking over you.

hei! nice concepts, like how its coming along, but keep pushing the idea! I like how the head is developing, I think you can push the body further!

Whats it gonna use for weapons or are you just gonna have it lumbering across the battle smashing people outta the way? If so giving it bigger bulkier hands would be cool, also that about making a visible (but protected) power source.

Looking cool man but watch out since dominance war dont "want" stylized stuff....
Try to give it more engine power and armor...

Well if it isn't my fav person on this phorum :D Again, love ur style, I have a sugestion, how about a retractable, maby telescopic neck - in that position, I think it would be cool if his head would usually be incorporated or really close to his body but when he needs to he can extend his neck to spy or simply head but something :D

hm, neat idea, like the hunters from halo. about it being stylized, i know. i promise the model won't be, and when i get the chance i'm going to fix up the concept. the stylized theme is getting to be a crutch for my art...
Hey there phorum go'er :P
Anyways I like your designs but its too simple for this contest imo...
I would ditch your style and do something more realistic(not the concepts but the actual model+textures)...
And Dammit man I wanted to do a skull also...

Hey Default!! Good News! You dont need to chance your great styled style!!
Are Cartoon/Anime/B&W style tolerated?
just if you look up the older entries you see no stylized entry.
I removed the realism theme for this year. If people want to do a stylized entry, it's alright.

Would like to see an update :)

I think i liked him better when he was more hunched, made him look a bit more bulky. Other than that, definitely an improvement, all his body parts are more defined. I think it needs more work on the feet area. Also, what's his weapon?
defaultalias
11-02-2007, 08:45 AM
last update tonight. i think i like it, a lot. so i'm going to go with this as my final or near final concept. i say near final because i haven't got the weapon yet. i'm thinking of making the prefab walls i mentioned into weapons as well, i don't know yet. anyway, feedback is always appreciated.

i've been doing some research, and i've found something really neat. i'm not going to get technical or read through all sorts of stuff, but more than just proof of concept exists of artificial muscles. and it fits the design so perfectly, with the slim profile and speed/strength to weight ratio being the biggest design concerns. it's perfect!
it would be nice if someone like FredH would validate if i can in fact use this, because it doesn't say i can't in the rules. it's machine in every way.
technical info and links:
Link 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumatic_artificial_muscles)
Link 2 (http://a1989.g.akamai.net/f/1989/7101/1d/www3.festo.com/__C1256D56002E7B89.nsf/html/info_501_en.pdf/$FILE/info_501_en.pdf)
about the artificial muscles....dammit man you seem to do what I wanted to do also...
look at this picture...
http://itchstudios.com/psg/robotics/cylon_c2.jpg
this kind of inpired me to do muscle-ish things for my bot... I kinda had in mind that if I needed to explain how they work....I'd say that there are millions of little "nanobots" or something in these "muscles" that when they get a signal they would "flex like muscles"
anyways keep it up :)

the i-robots used the same concept btw... and Festo is the company making this stuff, it should be pretty mainstream soon if it catches on. just think, instead of bulky prosthetics, engineers could almost build you a real arm or leg.

hei, nice concept! looks like an angel from evangelion.
good luck!
btw i just re-read you thread...you said somethign about "painting" the concept.. well keep in mind for the next time that if you are going to paint not to use any lines...i mean pre pre concept stages lines are fine but if you are going to the rendering stage i sudgest not using any lines...but it really is the style that you are choosing...
Anyways post some updates :D:P

i'll be ok, it's just a flesh wound. nothing serious.
i'm trying to post only necessary WIPs so i don't clutter the thread, unlike other people... anyway, i just scratched 1000 tris with this, and i still have to work on the head, hands and legs. the weapon is half done, but its still a secret.

Ok, sorry for the double post, but this is so cool. i was browsing polycount, and saw this thing. it's called teapotters.com, and it lets you upload your models for other people to view, on the web! even on a forum if it supports it. check it out on my new blog: http://defaultalias.blogspot.com/
you'll need this plugin, so go download it if you want to use this.

How many tris are u at master... erm Default? Cuz it seems to me that this guy can remain low poly ans still look good... in that case, yes I know the weapon is secret and it's none of my busyness... but what if there are two guys and either one of them can double as a weapon somehow?... like they can turn into swords or clubs or cannons or rams and other line breakers use them... good... yes?... no? @.@ *runs away*
defaultalias
24-02-2007, 12:30 PM
haha, although they're good ideas, but i can't use them. they don't fit.
the strategy is to storm through, as quickly as possible, and not worry about anything else besides whats between itself and its destination. once it gets there, they build a barricade other defendable structure, and move to the next location. several breaker teams then defend and use these now clear spots as stepping stones to create a network of movement inside enemy lines. and thats how wars are won, by gaining mobility over the enemy. once the enemy is faster and more maneuverable than you are, you've lost.
weapons will probably include a battering ram(may try to integrate them into the arms), the prefab wall(doubling as a portable shield), and small semi-automatic weapons. plus stuff like explosives and other optional equipment for special missions like bridge building and wall scaling.
it's not a glorious blood monster or master killing machine. it's not some lone, furious spirit encased in a shell or vengeance seeking warrior. it's a soldier. it's a specialized tool, and is used like one. bleak? i hope so. thats a machines life.
in a sense, i find that kind of life interesting... never having to make decisions, never having to set goals. having your purpose in life laid at your feet, and given direction. everything absolute, never a question, never a falter in mind, nor feeling of guilt...
sorry for the rant, but be warned, i'll be doing more of this. it helps flesh out the character. :lame:

Yeh, I understand but my idea kinda worked with this, some of them used as weapons and stuff, but you're right, theyr design don't allow for this... But original and realistic aproach there buddy :D
