I've seen Hel. It's coming. It's cold.
04-02-2007, 08:00 PM
WinterMachine gave loads of ideas :P anyways i got one now that i think im going with. (still working on it but looks good so far)
I am going to change my whole schools schedule to fit with the war, We shall start modeling high poly (to normal map) and last week I was thinking about concepts plus thinking about the war. Im changing my pre concept to fit a death dealing killing machine cyborg. If i can get my school to accept that atleast I work on this character to the 19th i will work everysingle day (and night) on this contest and my entry.
And... and no one can stop me! :P

Ligeia was first made to infiltrate, built up in human form she managed to infiltrate and steal data about the other sides research, however she was detected and almost killed, she managed to escape and now she has risen as a squad leader of a Full Assult Force specializing in tactics and ranged combat she is one of the many deadly 3Dtotals machines.
note(me doodling but it will probably be something like that)
05-02-2007, 12:29 PM
Project Ligeia was firstly made to infiltrate and steal data from the opposition, however she was discovered to be excellent at tactics and was soon put into service as a assault squad leader. With new brain she still has her old appearance of when the machines thought of using her to infiltrate in human form, however she has no flesh it is only a outer layer of deceiving skin.
On the battlefield Ligeia uses deadly force and tactics to overwhelm her opponents.
More concepts coming soon.

k well here are some shapes im thinking about the rest of the character, what do you guys think about the legs?
05-02-2007, 06:51 PM
well so far, it seems as if everyone is doing those kinds of legs, so if you where to turn the knee around, or even turn the whole leg around, see how that looks.
05-02-2007, 07:07 PM
Yeh i noticed another guy doing the same type of legs after i drew mine, however one of my friends said that when he saw a program about the perfect human redesigned they had those kinds of legs so it could make sense that more of us are using them.
I tried turning them around, il try completely different legs but this is what i got when i turned them around.
05-02-2007, 07:19 PM
well when I said turn the whole leg around, I mean all of it, feet too. Just take your first steches and cut out the leg, flip it, take a look.
I'm liking the way the calf sticks out in the back of the original, so if you did that with the flip it would add something special.
05-02-2007, 07:41 PM
here it is when its turned around. feels like he is trying to walk forward with scuba diving shoes on. il be working on it, but right now lunch. :) thanks Big Toe
05-02-2007, 09:09 PM
the concept looks like organic reprodution....hehe
goodz luck buddy!
05-02-2007, 11:24 PM
k made some more sketches. steal ideas if you find something cool from these guys. But im Probably using the legs (see arrow) on my shadow.
06-02-2007, 07:06 PM
Ok I have decided to put Ligeia down.
I made a new awesome concept that im really happy with, im gonna give him a underarm minigun. and then a polerarm or something else in the other.
06-02-2007, 11:45 PM
I really enjoy that last concept Winter
07-02-2007, 12:05 AM
His head reminds me of Cthulhu :haha:
07-02-2007, 02:18 PM
I really enjoy that last concept Winter
Thanxs yeh i think this concept kicks butt ThatDon
His head reminds me of Cthulhu
OnyxIdol Hehe I searched on google but only found some dude with tentacles hanging from his face, could u show me a pic of him or her i dont know it.
(lost an hour today when my girlfriend Maya had a fatal error) bad mood i guess :)
07-02-2007, 06:32 PM
Yeah, exactly. The truth is nobody knows what cthulhu looks like exactly since its a character of written fiction. So there are as many ideas of what he might look like as there are readers. For more Information check out
07-02-2007, 08:09 PM
OnyxIdol, K thanxs. Started the head. Learnt a lot about normal mapping today :)
07-02-2007, 08:43 PM
nice, looking man!....
Just a question...you do first the high poly an then you guys use the poly reduction tool? cuz i do the other way around and dont think my way is better >_>
07-02-2007, 08:45 PM
you dont want to use a reduction tool at all. They mainly screw withthe poly flow. Its better to get in there and manual cut away at polys.
As for doing low poly, then high poly, or high then low. You do what woeks best for you. But it comes down to knowing where you want to go with your model.
07-02-2007, 08:54 PM
hum i see....well since i have not much patience....i will do as usual.....i will try the other way later :)
07-02-2007, 09:49 PM
Right now im doing highpoly then il do a low poly and normal map it. I'm doing this way because after I have done the highpoly the lowpoly model will be done quickly (I hope). I dont use the reduction tool, I will do the lowpoly from scratch using the highpoly model as an outline cage or (and) use the non smooth highpoly parts and take away those unesary tris made to make nice edges for highpoly.
Thanxs Kalango. Big Toe what do you think about the concept so far, tomorow I will try post another sketch with the whole character, and weapon. and why not a thumbnail with a cool pose or something. :)

09-02-2007, 12:02 AM
it look a bit unstable to me...
it looks cool man...maybe if you enlarged the legs a little...because it kinda looks out of proportions.
09-02-2007, 02:29 AM
k thanxs, il play around with the leg sizes and stuff.
09-02-2007, 03:33 AM
holy 3dtotal robojesus!
09-02-2007, 03:53 AM
*remembering of that robot in Robocop 2*
Heh nice man! the structure is nice :)....
12-02-2007, 01:59 PM
Thanks Frostsnake and Kalango! :) I played around with he leg sizes and just doing that made the whole character look much cooler. I will show later dont worry hehe. Here is highpoly leg in progress.
13-02-2007, 06:33 PM
leg almost finished and fit on the character.
13-02-2007, 08:28 PM
looking nice, but that rubber like conection between leg and foot is not nice....it is too stretched...you could put metal parts and enginerings there....would be better...
13-02-2007, 09:06 PM
How about replacing the rubber bit with some segmented metal sheilding, would fit this char's bulky and powerful look. great progress so far, damn I better hurry up everyones already doing loads on their high-polys.
15-02-2007, 05:53 PM
K im going to keep the rubber so there wont get as much dust and dirt into the mechanics, ball joints are pretty easily damaged by such stuff, even the legs hydralics should not be seen but it looks cool. making a balljoint seems really hard even though it would look neat. I would want to see anyone else do theirs hehe. but yes maybe i should put some plating over the rubber and right now im thinking about that. OK but what really concerns me is how the hands should look like, making a human hand with rubber ontop it does not look good, i tried...
Maybe u guys can help me with ideas for the hand, it needs to be able to move the wrist and hold a gun. any ideas would be welcomed.
Here is part of the arm.
15-02-2007, 07:58 PM
well...i think his fist is better than his leg thing. BTW will you add wires and such? cuz it would add a lot of style to it :)
keep it up man, i like it so far.
23-02-2007, 05:47 PM
Thanks Kalango, wires should be protected so they are inside the armour.
Im gonna add a lot of the smaller details later, right now im gonna get the lowpoly ready to do normal map tests.
23-02-2007, 05:54 PM
hey man. looks good.. i think you could lose a lot of tris in the leg though, and in th face maybe.
there is no need for lots of detail in the low poly mesh.
lets start with the joints. try deleting all the faces in the circle, select the border and cap it. you can also loose a few tris near the ankle, as far as i can tell.
gl, and if its not clear what i mean, just ask :P
23-02-2007, 06:00 PM
I got it and im on it! :)
23-02-2007, 06:03 PM
great, gl man :D
26-02-2007, 02:11 PM
Here you go tank, now il just tie togheter the lose parts in my lowpoly and then il uv map it,
(after im done with the hands or weapon attachments)
more details less tris.
26-02-2007, 03:55 PM
Good to see you're hard at work man.
01-03-2007, 07:41 PM
Thanks ThatDon! :)
uvmapped and a TEST of using normal maps. Got some stuff to fix.
02-03-2007, 03:12 AM
still loads to do, dont mind the metal texture it will be changed.
Question: can we use ambient maps?
02-03-2007, 03:28 AM
ohh, ominus!! i like the red glow you have going on. as far as i know we can use any map we want just once it conforms to the size issues.
02-03-2007, 05:39 AM
Hehe cool thats nice to hear!
what about incandescene? :)
here I just had to thursday 3 o clock fun!
weapons are just going to be plugged into where the hands should be :)
