lets do this thing..

=====latest update=====
feb 22nd.. started the arms
just started blocking in the arms.. hopefully will have the whole model roughed in by next week so i can start on the final highpoly.
http://www.arshlevon.com/images/boim11.JPG

feb 19th..head and torso update

little update, nailing all those forms down..
http://www.arshlevon.com/images/boim10.JPG

feb 16th.. RAPID PROTOTYPE

okay this is not a start on the final model.. i am no concept artist and i am tired of fighting with it..so i thought i would try and make the concept in 3d.. with mudbox i can easily make changes and try new forms out and know exactly what it looks like in 3d . i plan on bringing the RP model up to 100% then retopologize using cyslice or perhaps the toptogun beta, i haven't tried it yet.. then use that model to bake my normal maps.

also i deleted all the old crap cause i feel it no longer represents my direction for this piece.

http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/8439/boim9fe8.jpg

feb 12th..

so.... i think i am going with super sniper.. he has a sniper cannon that can hit crap from hundreds of miles away with pinpoint accuracy not that he needs it cause his gun blows a road sized path through anything in its way. the base will be him walking through a charred path of earth he just blew through. also he gun has super bendy lazer technology so it can curve with the surface of the planet.. it has to be calibrated to the specific planet he is on though..

okay with that said i changed up the head and added several super scope 6's to his head so he can aim that crap, even thought its pretty much useless because i am sure this sort of thing would have to aim with gps.

i am pretty sure this is the final direction i am going, from here on out i will just spend time rendering the concept so it looks nice and not all messy.. then on to the modeling.

05-02-2007, 04:09 AM
hahha i can tell this is going to be one fun comp already.

nate i wouldnt really call me a benidict arnold, i was pushed out.
bring it on.

here is my first concept, a quick head design.. nothing finial but it shows the general direction i am looking at, a biomechanical shadow beast. need to nail down forms and put more thought into a body design. dont know how well the style will go over, trying something different, not so much a merging of biological matter and technology, but applying organic biological forms to that of a mechanical object. he runs off the blood of kittens, really cute ones.

more soon, i really need to finish some work! haha this contest is going to completely destroy my life! im so excited!

-------EDIT--------
moving all progress to first post.

If you are looking for a reason why you left.. you can always say that you were still on the planet watching tv when the bomb went off. When you woke up, you were fused with mechanics (feel free to include a tv in your design:p)

Nice concept so far man. It's really starting to take form.

thanks dudes, good to be back here to the first place i started pimping art, i dont remember any of you but there is defiantly some nostalgia from my early days, hope to have some more updates in a day or 2, i want to try and at least nail down the concept before i post again.

lets show those "pokeycounters" whos boss...

on a side note, do you guys remember when polycount use to offer quake 3 and ut models on their site??? i sure do, i wonder wonder what happend to them, you should all go over there and ask them where they are, i am sure they would love that..

Very kool concept. Now lets kick some arse
Ill be watching ur thread as well.

rawkstar
07-02-2007, 08:08 PM
this thing totally looks like the Makron from quake4, well the newer concept looks like one of the older designs for that or for the network guardian or something, kinda looked like a snake with humans inside test tubes on the back.

i think its all cool, except for the head, which kind of looks like a psychidelic phallus.

arshlevon
07-02-2007, 08:35 PM
hahah the head is my favorite part.. going to change it up a bit though in the next update, i have a few sketches just dont have time right now to really work on it... and looking at the makron it does have a similar silhouette, so i am totally ditching the spider legs. guess i have been looking at too much paul richards stuff.. but really i have been getting most of inspiration for this piece from Tatsuyuki Tanaka. not really trying to bite his style, but i love the way his forms flow into each other.

some of his stuff for those who havent heard of him.

BiG ToE-3DT
09-02-2007, 06:30 PM

The concept looks sweat man. But I am not to sure about the thing on his left side. What is that? A sword? Some big assed firing weapon?..

Anyway I like the blue wiring all over his armor...

I haven't got much to say other than that really. It looks dope, keep it up :)

You know...

I went through your drawings again.

I really like the very first image much more than the other ones.

Was there a reason why you changed the direction so much?

arshlevon
11-02-2007, 08:22 AM
yeah there was a reason, i didn't like it very much.. i think its pretty cliché and it is a theme i have seem a million times before. i don't like making stuff like that and was going for something a little more interesting with the design. i usually never ever never go with my first drawings. i will probably be spending another week or so on the concept so expect it to change more, but i think i found the general proportions i am shooting for.... big huge tank guy doesn't really scream assassin to me.

Very beutifully drawn concept, i hope that you will leave yourself enough time to finish the model as it is so detailed, i would love to see the finished article. Not sure what all the details are for other than a visually pleasent appearance, i hope that does not go against you when people judge the practicality of your character in a combat situation. I think that it could use some ranged weaponry or if it allready has some make the weaponry visible.

arshlevon
12-02-2007, 09:43 PM
yet another update i think the concept is finally almost done.. one or two more passes and i think i will start modeling.
i hope that does not go against you when people judge the practicality of your character in a combat situation. I think that it could use some ranged weaponry or if it allready has some make the weaponry visible.

13-02-2007, 01:39 AM
arshlevon: make sure the gun is not attached to him body, then you can use the full 1,000tris to make it. Otherwise you would have to use the 6,000tris to create the weapon and the weapon's user.

update up at the top...

B lo o d y H e l l (sorry if it offends), but it's looking sweet so far oh and i looked up what you were taking about with optimizing your mesh, i found the first one, but not the second one they look like good programs.

arshlevon
17-02-2007, 09:55 AM
thanks guys, i wish i could work on this on all day unfortunately i have a lot of work to do so i might not be able to update for a while.

the programs i mentioned are for taking sculpts and making new, clean topology from them, usually for animation purposes. i was recommended cyclice from a friend who does film work, they use it to clean up 3d scan data, i found it really good for next gen work as it makes very quick work of making your low poly model, it has some great tools and since it was made for 3d scan data it can handle tons of polygons and i dont have to worry about bringing max to complete halt wen i bring in sculpt data.

topogun is new, its used for the same thing, but i think its more geared toward games and cleaning up sculpts than cyslice, i encourage everyone to get the beta, i am currently in the beta but i haven't had the free time to try it out.. i have been spending all my free time on the entry.. hahaha

anyway, cyslice is super expensive and highly specialized, i got it cause it really saved me a lot of time on contract work in some cases a few days of work, i can sculpt and texture my high then to and do my mesh generation diffuse bakes and ao bakes in cyclice. its all pretty painless and straight forward. it has quickly paid for itself.
topogun on the other hand is free if you qualify for the beta and from the demo movies looks like it has some very interesting tools, and a very cool twist on on the topology brush like in silo .

That Cyslice deally looks like a valuable tool. Pity it's got a price to match.

Your design is looking pretty decent Arsh, but it seems to have lost a bit of its definite form and silhouette that the version you had up a week or so back had. It might just be the unrefined mudbox model and muddy concept, but it all feels a bit mushy and overworked now. The cables an interesting aspect to the design, but I think they're hurting the form right now.

arshlevon
19-02-2007, 10:38 PM
UPDATE on first post.. still blocking in forms..

i kind of agree about the cables.. they are temporary, they will be there in one form or another, but nothing is set in stone, still very much a wip and this is not my final model only a concept..

AND i got the chance to play with topogun some and i totally love it.. its missing some features i like in cyclice mostly texture baking tools, but damn is it nice. also on the forums there is no exact price set but it is claimed to be cheap enough for everyone to afford.. lets cross our fingers..
