Normal map test:
Ok, so i might not be the best. but i figure, this is a great way to test my skills, learn new skills and have a great time making a model in a theme i really like.
im thinking of a cyborg, encredibly strong and intelligent. gonna work on a concept asap.
looking forward to seeing what kind of sick army we can produce.
3D Total For The Win!!
Edit: oh, and lets go and annihilate the opposition!
04-02-2007, 11:43 PM
He he good luck,man! :D
05-02-2007, 12:51 AM
working on my concept atm, moving ahead nicely. cyborg with a BFG :D
ok, well, this is more or less the idea. not done, but its a start and gives me something to work with. dont have anymore time today, so this is it so far.
hope you like...
05-02-2007, 09:16 PM
ok, update on my concept.
wanted to get it ready, so i can start on the side view for the ortho's.
ill prolly make that tomorrow.
the colors are most likely what ill be going for, maybe a bit darker, and some metallic scratches, bolts, rivets.
hope you like him:
06-02-2007, 07:25 PM
Hey all. i got my orthos set up, and am modeling my cyborg. got a screengrab for you all, to show you my progress:
till the nxt update.
awsome progress ;) really clean model :) keep it firin ;)
06-02-2007, 07:47 PM
I like the fact that he has no mouth, gives him a more cold, hostile look.
06-02-2007, 08:34 PM
jeah... frist "taste" of this model is SS-troper from WWII
06-02-2007, 08:49 PM
dont know why but rem, inds me of Power Rangers....
good luck fella!
06-02-2007, 08:53 PM
thnx guys. ill have some more time to devote to him tomorrow. hopefully ill have his arm and BFG done by then. plan to normal map this guy, so i need to move fast with the low poly model :P
see you all later and best of luck on your own models.
07-02-2007, 02:07 AM
i think i have a problem and its called modelling addiction
i thought i made some good progress today, and wanted to stop after the torso was done for the most part, but i couldnt :P
i went on and made his arm, legs and cannon. atleast, in broad lines. going to refine it a lot more, and still need the feet and his generator outlet on his back.
pff, need sleep...
ok, well, here is a quick render of where i am. due to a huge need for sleep, i didnt put in any smoothing or funkyness.
07-02-2007, 03:10 PM
time for me to get excited. i got my low poly model as good as done. and i still have room too add detail. some 2500 tri's to be more or less exact.
atm a little over 4500. still need to optimize the chest. not sure what else to make for him, besides an energyblade on his arm and lots more detail on his cannon.
feet are done, as is his power generator on his back, which feeds into his arm, cannon, lower body and head through shielded cables. added some artificial muscles and joint detail at his knees and at the ankle.
im thinking of adding some more detail to his eyes. using an alpha map, i could add something like a camera lens like effect to them, instead of a simple plane.
anyway, here is "Dom":
(anyone got an idea for a name? im stuck...)
07-02-2007, 07:16 PM
Good stuff! What's the arm cannon? laser? particle weapon? ballistic weapon?
07-02-2007, 07:56 PM
glad you like him gridlinked.
the cannon has undergone major cosmetic surgery. it looks more like a howitser now, which is cool.
as for what it fires, it some kind of particle weapon. tho what kind, i dont know. you'll have to ask the professor himself.(yes, i made him a scientist, well, atleast he was, before the big boom, anyway...)
08-02-2007, 01:14 AM
no real progress, but he just looked cool, i wanted to show you all:
08-02-2007, 04:23 AM
Is that some kind of blade in his left arm?
09-02-2007, 03:04 PM
Gridlinked: yeah, its an energyblade. ill explain that a little further down in this post.
I just looked thru most of the wips, and damn, im impressed guys. gavem e loads of inspiration for more detail on my guy, and i think the other forums should really fear us
so good work all.
i made some further refinements to my concept. i also gave him a name and worked out his background story in detail.
so, the story:
Dr. Herman Von Strauss was a respected scientist, working on artifial intelligence and conscienceness.
creating and prefecting an artificial mind, the doctor had great ambition for his creation. Before he could see his work come to fruitition, his world was ravaged. Seeing the disaster unfold, the doctor took a last ditch effort to ensure his own survival.
He merged his own mind with that of his creation, creating a new entity.
Making several hunderd copies of himself to enlarge his chances to survive, his world exploded.
Admitst the wreakage, the good doctor found himself in what remained of his laboratorium. He set about salvaging what he could and get some intel as to the fate of the rest of the world. Seeing spirits fuse with machines, he came to the grim conclussion that this new forces would soon either attack those responsible, or that they themselves would be attacked.
Seeing no other way to ensure his contiued survival, he set about creating a new body for himself. Using what was left in his building, he made a shell that would contain him and protect him against encredible onslaught.
He made sure that those that knew him, and knew of the destruction of him homeworld and now stood against him, would recognize him, he made a shocking reminder of his organic self.
designing weapons with his fastly greater intellect, he used cutting edge technology to create of himself a force to fear from a far, aswell as from nearby.
To be concluded!
Well, sorry for the length. next is the up is the concept update.
gonna work on the model now. later all and keep up the great work!!
09-02-2007, 05:25 PM
I like the power generator and the fact that he has no mouth showing. He looks like a real bruiser that can step on you with ease. :) hrmm, not quite sure I like the blade on his arm. It doesn't really look like he needs it to me. We need to finish this guy to squash those polycounters! :) Keep us posted.
nice story panzer! btw I'm too lazy to read whole of that, but I like the concept n which I find from the story! ;)
hope see an update of your model soon, too.
keep up ur fast moove panzer! :D
09-02-2007, 08:12 PM
thnx guys. glad you like him so far :D
FistOfGod: the reason for the energyblade is simple.
if the main cannon is damaged or otherwise non-functioning, he can still rip through armored units with the blade, nevermind the weak fleshies themselves.
plus, it gives him a really gruesome finishing move :P
i need some advice, btw. atm he is just under 6k tris. but i have NO idea what else to do, without making him feel to cluttered, or things beeing slapped on.
any ideas/advice would be hot :D
more details on the weapon n also a si-fi belt whold be good for start! ;)
10-02-2007, 07:17 PM
Hey all, got another update and i also learned a valuable lesson. get your concept done before modeling...
Mim : i ditched the old cannon... so no need to worry anymore... :P
cost me a lot of time i could have spent on the UV :S
i was never really happy with his cannon, felt to clunky, angular. didnt feel like the same tech as the rest of him.
so, i worked out a few different designs. i chose one that was the coolest, atleast i think so.
see the renders below:
the idea is, that the cannon sits in a pod, that might also function as a shield for incoming artillery fire, or something. anyway, the gun sits inside it. the lower half splits open and slides down a bit. the barrel slides out and locks in place and is ready to fire.
the powerfeed is not there yet. gonna do that in a bit. i might add like wires or something near the barrel.
hope you like and till the next update :D
10-02-2007, 07:20 PM
Ah, looking better and better! You're right, the old cannon was too angular, this one fits the design better, looks very integrated with it.
13-02-2007, 04:41 PM
atm 6300 tris. really dont have any more ideas. i gave him a nose, nanite-wires running on his face.
im gonna go ahead and UV him. still need to make the high poly version, so i need to step on it.
i made a quick colorscheme using just basic materials. i might go a bit darker, but i wanted him te be more or less the colors of threedy. might change it tho.
could use some crits/ideas
16-02-2007, 05:22 PM
like how the head is looking! the read wire stuff is also nice.
try to add some kneepads.. or extrude something out to breake the curveness/smoothnes...unless thats what you want;)
very nice design. If you detail him nicely that's gonna rock.
Btw, any screws, wires, holes, like the ones you have, will look better if they are normalmapped, not modeled in the lowpoly.
23-02-2007, 05:51 PM
hey all, quick update. been having a fight between dominance, school, wow and other projects :S
currently still unwrapping. been a bitch. almost done tho. after that, im gonna try to make a normal map, although i have now idea how, really. gonna play with mudbox for that i think.
hope to show some more work soon
24-02-2007, 04:06 AM
The Battle is over, yet the War is still to come.
im done 95% done with my UV layout. damn i hate doing those. got some really nasty strechting and borders in place, but i just cant get rid of them. been losing my mind trying to get them right. for the most part it looks pretty good tho.
Small edit: made a few sketches for my final pose. not sure what to pick, or even if they would look ok.
i want him to project a sence of supremacy. that he doenst care a care is burning of someking under his feet, or he has a corpse in his hands. he has won and thats it.
i definately want him to be standing on something big/ strong, like a tank or a plane or whatever, maybe even a small mech.
anyway, help me out guys :D
25-02-2007, 04:33 PM
Hey all. i made some headway with my high poly model. i cheated a bit tho.
thought it would be faster to just meshsmooth my low poly with the smoothing groups button checked and collapse the stack.
added some plates, rivets and stuff like that. just a quick test at normal mapping, as i have never done it before.
worked out pretty good for a first time.
re-did my uv layout a bit, so i could get in more detail. currently conforming my low poly mesh to the high poly using Tim's Scripts. taking some time, so now real update, just the quick test.
here he is:
hope you like.
gl with the test, panzer! ;)
btw whats the diffrence between Tim's Script by subdividin it yourself ?! is here any benefites for it?! :dunno:
25-02-2007, 05:28 PM
i used the script to conform my low poly to the high poly. basically making the lowpoly fully fit the high poly. saves you from moving thousands of verts by hand.
26-02-2007, 08:02 AM
What's this "tim's script" that you are speaking of? :???:
26-02-2007, 08:09 AM
yes, i as well would like to know of this "Tim's script". Spill the beans, plz. :)
26-02-2007, 10:23 AM
Wow, nice looking robot man! A kinda classic design, but with the neat piercing eyes and stuff. Clean model too. Can't wait to see more!
26-02-2007, 12:03 PM
VinsanityV20 : Thnx, glad you like him. ill try to post an update soon.
B-E4sy and gridlinked : TiM's Script is set of scripts from Hyperrent (http://www.hyperent.com/), released by Paul Hormis, animating guru.
It helps a lot. takes some time to move all the verts ,but still loads faster than to do it by hand.
hope this answers your questions.
till next time...
04-03-2007, 08:44 PM
if those are veins showing on his face, it's a nice touch to your guy.
10-04-2007, 04:42 PM
greetings to all. no time, due to school, for much of anything.
great work on all the entries. a lot of incredible work, guys :D
ill finish this guy some day.
so, well, better luck next year, right?
