very true indeed, ok back to sketching
shadowbreeze
06-02-2007, 11:21 AM
ok this is idea 1 Yeah i have a big yellow HEAD i'm just not happy with it yet, i'll post some different heads later and i still have another concept to work on.
so this machine the idea well assassin/ weapons expert / stealth with a dash of soul sucking, when been created his soul screamed out and drew alot of the lost and dying ones to him and as a result they were in cased in his armor, they are still aware of what happened to them, but forever trapped, and still whispering and crying, so the only thing our enemies will here before death is a soft whisper of a trapped soul naming their doom.
i,m think also a big sword type thing and maybe a sniper rifle
yeah well i guess you get the idea.lol

GraphicDragon
06-02-2007, 02:52 PM
I'm digging the spooky feeling of this one. That should make him really stand out.
shadowbreeze
06-02-2007, 04:00 PM
BlackWolf - thanks yeah your right the wings stay.
GraphicDragon - cool thats the feel i'm going for he is machines answer to the grim reaper.
here's head number 2(which i think i'll run with and develop as i model )
ThatDon
06-02-2007, 04:03 PM
I think your first one is better, only because it looks more bad ass and mean as hell.
You're 2nd one reminds me of these goons from Venture Bros

shadowbreeze
06-02-2007, 04:08 PM
lol, thats funny, the face on the second one does not show all the twisted metal and tubes though which i was just planning to model in, hmm maybe i should put more detail into it, but time for a rest for today.
ThatDon
06-02-2007, 04:10 PM
yeah man, i'm just poking fun at you anyways. Night night.
RobRussell
06-02-2007, 04:33 PM
Hell yea man, that thing looks as fearsome as it looks cool. The faces on the armour keep freaking me out :|
Kalango
06-02-2007, 11:06 PM
shurely this was a passed out polycount general :) but now it is a robot:) very evil :) good luck!
shadowbreeze
07-02-2007, 05:40 AM
RobRussell - thanks, but which face 1 or 2
Kalango - thanks and good luck to you to and i hope you get to the end ( istill want to see your steam punk)
shadowbreeze
07-02-2007, 12:14 PM
ok so heres my second idea still based around the theme of the first one with the souls, been trapped and sucking more, but this one will have not only his matrix hounds(placeholder name), but also a type of composite bow with heat seeker missiles to follow the beam arrows + close combat weapons, and the ability to phase in and out.
Traxxas
07-02-2007, 12:27 PM
Mother of God... I hope you can model as well as you paint.... :xyz:

07-02-2007, 01:03 PM
I really enjoy that last face you did shadow
ryvick
07-02-2007, 08:46 PM
that is surely menacing. go with ur last sketch.
The last one is great concept. I love the idea of sci-fi archer and the concept is very menacing. Though if you get enough polygons to spare, do the dog too. Would be cool as heck. Sort of corruptor dog? Jumps to machines and takes them over :)
RickStefani
07-02-2007, 09:37 PM
I have to agree. This thing scares the hell out of me. Very nice.
shadowbreeze
08-02-2007, 11:36 AM
Traxxas - yeah i'm hoping so too,but i have plenty of time so and will be geting a graphics tablet soon so it will make life easier.
ThatDon - thanks, but i've moved onto my knew one, i might put the old one up for a concept?
ryvick - cool i was hoping for that type of feeling and i will be going withit.
Deto thanks alot, and yeah i'm going to use the weapons limit for the dog as i worked out away to have the bow built into the Seeker so it will count towards the 6000 poly budget. :haha:
RickStefani - thanks and lets hope it does the some to our enemies
oh and thanks for the encouragement guys.
so here's my bow design the pods up top are were the rockets come from and the arrow with the whispering soul will shoot out from his palm and whoever here's the whispers of doom from the soul arrow will soon be destroyed by the rockets, hound or by the seeker up close as he phase in next to them.
yeah anyway here's a picture :haha:
Kalango
08-02-2007, 10:42 PM
nice bowq you got there....hope the arrows are explosive....so you can explode some flesh with it.
yoyomon
09-02-2007, 05:42 AM
Nice job with the concepts. That second to the last one rocks! I'll be following this one.
YEAH! great man! one on the #17 seems 3D by now! btw I didn't think it is possible to make the dog with 1000 tris!
n about the weapon, it's really awsome concept, like it!
keep up good workin, n goodluck ;)
mim,
shadowbreeze
10-02-2007, 04:32 AM
Kalango - thanks no there not explosive they hit the enemy and the soul starts to wisper to the and cry and tell them of their doom and then bang either the missiles hit them, or the hound, or the seeker phases in and gives them a personal death.
yoyomon - thanks alot, i thought i had better step up this time not like my ninja, lol
mim - thanks and well the hound is almost done i just have to shave around 500 tri's i'll post it later, te he, i'll be using Z brush to get detail for it.
Kalango
10-02-2007, 04:36 AM

ok i have redesigned my Seeker just a bit the weapon arm will have the bow worked into so it will fold out when needed, the other arm will have the shield gen on it along with some nasty surprise's.
shadowbreeze
12-02-2007, 08:51 AM
dam i forgot to show the hound it stands at 994 Tri's, i'll be taking it into Zbrush to get the detail i want.
yoyomon
12-02-2007, 09:29 AM
Nice hound. Wires? It'll be intresting to see how you'll do the holographic grid on the dog.
As far as the latest concept. I think he looks cooler without the huge gun arm.
shadowbreeze
13-02-2007, 09:47 AM
yoyomon - thanks, i'll post some wires soon along with the Zbrush work, i forgot to getta screen gab :wall: this time, and yeah i don't really like the gun aem now i've look at it again, i redesign it to be smaller.
ok for tis up date here's part of the front for the Seeker in the end i will be only using the flesh bits as seen in the concept, but i just like to do a whole figure to start with, the side flesh buts are where the tubes and wires will be going.
Kalango
13-02-2007, 11:06 PM
looking disgustly nice!....what was that anyway? some kind of alergy? hehe very nice looking man, keep it up.

14-02-2007, 12:03 AM
"... the hound it stands at 994 Tri's..."
You've captured the dog's siloutte quite well w/ only 994 Tris o .o
Must see wireframes!
shadowbreeze
14-02-2007, 05:21 AM
ARghhh, late for class, heres a quick wires for you.
shadowbreeze
15-02-2007, 09:03 AM
Kalango - lol, it will be twisted metal with the souls floating through it, and yeah the bumps did not work they were going to be studs, but i'll put them in later, ATM they look like boils of puss(oh dear).
ok i've started on the head still not happy with it yet I know it may look like some deformed flesh, but it won't in the end it will be metal.

15-02-2007, 06:01 PM

praveen3d - thanks, yeah the texturing is going to take a while.
Agent-X - thanks, any suggestions ?,i know ATM i',m heading down a dark path for this character and well i had to pull back after the last one which i won't show well it was nasty.
ok here's a different head i'm working on, the mouth area won't be in the final model, I have some plans for that area.
shinja
16-02-2007, 07:07 PM
hey shadow,
that is looking pretty kool. I like the body anatomy at the top. Please show us some more :) WD

17-02-2007, 02:47 AM
This new update is coming along quite well shadowBreeze. I have a tip for ya on your wires and tubes that penetrate into the body and head, for future models. I think it would have been a good idea to make a section in the highres head that was shaped like a cylinder something you could have extruded down further into the skin. And then have a another cylinder which extrude faces along a curve for the tubes. which can connect to another area the same way as what I just said with the head. Whats wrong with the model is this, is that you got penetration of geometry going through eachother and they are intersecting and it looks a little odd. So by doing what I just described here that would truly fix your problem. Other than that man awesome work. Nice sculpture. I hope that helped, I dont mean to be too critical now. Keep up the good work my friend.

Kalango
17-02-2007, 04:47 AM
wow man its looking way batter and waaay creepyer...the goggled eye is kickass...the mouth needs improvements and eyes need a reshaping. Getting along quite nice man!
shadowbreeze
17-02-2007, 09:32 AM
shinja - thanks, that means alot to me, so heres some more there is still alot of mussle structure to be added and the back section has alot more to be done, but i don't like the glossy crap that i rendered it in it misses half the detail, oh well.
Agent-X - thanks your thoughts are always well come and your right, i was trying to be tricky with a new way of working with max and Zbrush, by adding geometry in max giving it the same amount of subs and attaching it to the head and then re exporting into Zbrush so it would still have the some amount a subs there, but hey not so good this time, so with the low version i'll make its all one mesh.
Kalango - thanks, yeah i'm working on those area's see the update, but i'm still not happy with it yet, as for the eye it was ment to be that way but if it looks to wrong i'll change it.
ok enough typing.
shadowbreeze
18-02-2007, 05:58 AM
made some changes, extended the arms a bit, started adding detail to the back section, and the head and body are not attached as i'm going to start on the big armor and mech bits and i wanted to get an idea of how it going to looks all together.

Jeez laweez - this guy is looking fantastic! Where was all that high poly modeling skill at the last low poly comp, Shadowbreeze? :smug: Anyway, your guy is looking absolutely sick - in a good way of course. Hope he'll have enough non-organic stuff on him though; as great as it is, I wanna make sure you catch this:
Entry Details:
- Create a "Shadow" with one or more of these proficiencies: (these are only a few of many other possibilities)
Penetration, Assassination, Recovering, Demolishing, Sharp Shooting, Hand to Hand Combat Specialist, Stealth, Spying, Deception, Searching, Tactician, Weapon Specialist, Defender, Navigation Specialist, Space Combat Specialist, etc.
- Race:
3dtotal: Cyborgs and robots (only moderate flesh is allowed). Basically, your character should possess more than 80% cybernetics.
Feb 5th Update: Polycount, CGSociety, CGChat: Humans or Aliens (only moderate mechanics is allowed). Basically, your character should have no more than 20% cybernetics. So two hands are fine or half an arm is fine or both feet are fine etc. Armor plated characters are allowed as long as you make it look like your character doesn't merge with the machine in any fashion."
I don't know how hardcore that rule is, but I wanted to make sure you know man...
shadowbreeze
18-02-2007, 07:35 AM
VinsanityV20 - thanks a lot man, yeah, i kind of decided this time round to go for it and push my self a bit for this one and use the knowledge of my arts background, the low poly comps i was just slack and had my course to finish in animation, that takes alot of time :( .
as for the non organic yeah i was losing track of that, but most of it will be a melted twisted metal with trapped souls in it, so i hope that covers the no flesh and one arm and the bottom half will be just machine, and i must admit alot of what i've modeled so far won't be in the final.
As for proficiencies, his a Hand to Hand Combat Specialist, Stealth, Searching and destroy, type of machine , with lock on rockets that will be produced from his back.
thanks for bring me back on track it's do easy to lose your self in anatomy shaping.

shadowbreeze
19-02-2007, 12:17 PM
Agent-X - thanks man, but i'm starting to get slightly peeved with it ATM, my comp is starting grind down, :ugh: and making it all melted is very draining cause you can't go to far as the anatomy would look sht and Unrecognizable, straight out steel is tempting.
here's just a small update. :hmm:
ThatDon
19-02-2007, 12:19 PM
Good **** shadow, I'm loving the side profile.
edit: censorship for the lose :(
VinsanityV20
19-02-2007, 12:24 PM
:D Nice man - melted metal and souls definitely sound like they'll be cool, and judging by how good you textured your low poly steam ninja, I'm certain they'll look fantastic! I'm sure you'll be in the clear in that case. Go man, go!
And oh yea- nice call on finishing your animation during the low poly comp. For one of my classes, I blew it off till the last minute and had to animate a 45 second in a night...'twas one of the dumbest things I've ever done, needless to say
shadowbreeze
19-02-2007, 12:25 PM
ThatDon - thanks i, must admit i was doubtful, but when you look at some thing for to long, you start to go :wall: , oh i sent you a rply
thanks Vinsanity, yeah i have not been told no by any one like fred so i guess thats a good sign. :???:
ThatDon
19-02-2007, 12:27 PM
As did I, you might want to consider scaling the ears up a bit, they look just a tad small right now. Do you plan on using topogun for your lowpoly?
shadowbreeze
19-02-2007, 12:30 PM
yeah the ears might not be in the final model as the armor will cover most of the side, and i'm hoping too use topogun if not i'll use polyboost.
ThatDon
19-02-2007, 12:35 PM
awesome, well get back to it, I know these forums are addicting
shadowbreeze
20-02-2007, 10:42 AM
ThatDon - yeah i know what you mean and take time away from modeling
ok just a small update, started playing around with the armor bits, the indented bits will be windows with souls in them that act as eyes so he never really needs to look about.
zerorhythm
20-02-2007, 07:33 PM
wicked!
I like how his head was done somewhat elongated more than an expected massive, spherical cranial cup.
you did good man! keep it up!
shadowbreeze
22-02-2007, 10:10 AM
zerorhythm - thanks alot and thaks for encouragement.
ok another update, but i've already changed something the pipes at the side have been changed maybe they they will go all together. The back of the armor where the missile pods are might be going to and replaced with pods? the extruding vents are part of the phasing device he use's.
the coloured one is just a test, but i like the colours so i'm going to work on it.

These are the days that we attack, while they sleep.
shadowbreeze
26-02-2007, 05:36 AM
ok so after a few days of getting THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH, i backed up all my files and stuff, wiped the hard drives of my work computer and re installed everything,, i'm back in action, lucky my internet is on a different computer so at least i could watch the progress of team total.
ok so there's been a slight change in direction, i was getting no where fast with the old one, so instead of bogging down and not completing it, did what i did.
ThatDon
26-02-2007, 05:44 AM
If you don't mind me asking shadow, how did you go about making that? Did it start out as a base mesh created in maya/max or did you just start with a primitive made in mudbox?
shadowbreeze
26-02-2007, 05:52 AM
ThatDon - i don't mind i started out with a simple mesh in max and i mean really simple, and the exported it into max, the only exemption was the head which i liked so i imported that along with the basic mesh. oh i should have a msn soon. i'm just slack with that type of thing.
MonteCristo
26-02-2007, 06:00 AM
You made the right choice in my opinion. This thing looks a lot cooler. Are you planning on making it look more mechanical? It looks ace, but it definitely looks very organic right now, which I'm sure you are already aware of. Although, I do like it when people make that strange cross-over between inorganic and organic...
BiG ToE-3DT
26-02-2007, 06:00 AM
he uses Awesome Max,like myself.so should you Don.
gridlinked
26-02-2007, 09:48 AM

I dunno.. 'awesome max' ? I'd say use Uber Maya. Because. Maya > Max :3 lolz.
Looking bamf Shadow. Nice mudboxing.
shadowbreeze
27-02-2007, 06:44 AM
MonteCristo-3DT,BiG ToE-3DT, gridlinked, Klash120 - thanks alot and yeah i'm working on the too organic look, there will be piston and cables show as you will see in the update i have started roughing them in, One of the main reasons for going down this track is i was always told that for Demo Reels that straight out mechs/ robots were a big no no, is this correct? and well as i want to start my career in this industry, i wanted to create something i can use. but if this is not please let me Know.
cheers
ThatDon
27-02-2007, 07:20 AM
Ohh man, those little skulls did it for me, but I think you could stand to beef up the arms a bit, they looked rather dwarfed by the shoulder pad thingy!
BiG ToE-3DT
27-02-2007, 08:09 AM
shadowbreeze: not sure about the whole no no on robots, but I can tell you this, if you can model, you can model, and thats what they want. Be it a robot, or a human. Just make sure to label each model in your reel so everyone knows what it was made for, you will be fine.
ryvick
27-02-2007, 07:44 PM

Klash120
27-02-2007, 11:36 PM
I've been told back when I was in school that Mechs/Robots are overdone, & that they should be avoided. Though If it's awesome enough, then I dont think that really matters :p Afterall, I graduated w/ a mech in my reel ;p
ThatDon
28-02-2007, 12:21 AM

EvilKnight- thanks alot it does mean alot coming from you.
ok so heres an update after a break and doing some good old manual labour to get rid of my frustration of losing 2 days worth of work, for some reason every file of the bottom half was corrupted and that included the auto back ups, man i was ready to through the computer out the ****** window.

taehoon - thanks that does mean alot to me as it's my first real go at mudbox, i've only really looked at it before and oohh ahhh some day i'll get serious. as for hands i'll show what i was going to do next update and no feet i wanted to do something different as i'm always practicing anatomy, so it's going to have a skimmer, think of the tzeentch flying disks and thats the best way to explain it.
killadee - thank and thanks for the heads up on the site had a quick look and i wish i had known about it soon oh well looks like a really good Aus site and it has positions Available on it. yes although i would move just about anywhere to start my career .

gridlinked - hey thanks, i happy it's getting the feel i want, which is something you would have hunting you down in a game like doom 3 and freaking you all the way.
ok i noticed the issue been raised in one of the other threads about the characters been in game so i spent the day testing mine in UT2004 engine and will be putting it into doom3 over the weekend and so far so good and with the custom animation i'm working on i think it will fit into the games fine, just the custom scripting will bog me done argh.
heres some more texture update will start on the detailing tonight.

well i'm not to happy with it yet, i have been testing it in doom3 and quake 4 to see the difference between render textures in max and in the games and trying to get a middle ground for both i'll post in game stuff later. yeah i know i'm adding to my work load by doing this but it's the best way to prove my character is a gaming model. well for me anyway

this is getting better but it still needs some more defined strokes, for now it looks kinda blurpy, with lots of high subdivision modeling artifacts - like abundance of round, unclear shapes and has too few sharpish corners that give metalic surfaces their definition. take a day off, go out, have a look a the skies and birds [usually helps me :)] and then get back to it! :)

19-03-2007, 06:45 PM
miezis - birds trees whats that, just kidding, yeah the whole idea of this character was to be melted metal and not to have sharp edges once i start high lighting it should start to expose more shape, if not i'll start again lol oh and it is a real low screen grab, but your right it's very easy to get lost when you have no one to give a second pair of eyes. thanks

Thanks Agent x and Kalango, i think next time I'll go for a more simpler texture style, lol
ok so here's one of two new thing my seeker has been give the second is a weapon, but I'll wait a bit.
the changes have been made thanks to my little nephew and he's big Imagination, and as he said afterwards let it flow uncle let it flow.

Loved the idea. Allways new you were an exceptionally good texture artist, now that you have started to texture it is really coming together. I may be a bit hypocritical but i think you could have made it more mechanical looking. Definetly would not like to find it under my bed. Great work, looking forward to the next update.

0202742 - thanks a lot , i think having an arts background helps, now all i need to do is do it for career, but anyway yeah i was going to add more mech stuff but i guess i like the more weird cyborg/ machine creatures, lol
so i'm just about done all that is left is the bottom part of the back and weapons
i've been playing around with lighting but i must admit i have trouble with this part, i prefer painting moods and lighting, but i'll get there ANDyes i know about 3 point lighting, lol.

keep up progress, mim, :D

mim - thanks, big engined are always cool.
well texturing pretty much done just some fine tuning and on to the weapons, that won't take long,
so i just did this for FUN.... Do you WANT FRIES with that??

ok i think this will be my winning pose and may be the lighting?? i would like to maybe make it a bit darker as it would suit my shadow more and just make clean renders for my beauty shots to show detail??.
i just don't know as shiny is not really the Seekers style.

To be perfectly honest i do not think your current winning pose does your entry justice, it looks a bit too static and like you have not actually posed it yet. I would suggest having one hand above it's head at least (or maybe an upskirt view ;) ). Lighting looks good.
ThatDon
24-03-2007, 09:23 AM
ohh come on shadowbreeze, take the time to actually pose this sucker, you already spent alot of time on everything else might as well finish it properly!
Also the flame style stuff on the bottom of his skirt feels very out of place compared to the rest of the texturing, so maybe try a few renders without it.
gridlinked
24-03-2007, 06:34 PM
I actually like that flamey glow on the bottom, what's killing it for me is that you can clearly see the end of it, the alpha should actually making it seamlessly vanish.
Making it darker would be better as a picture, but would make judging your entry harder imo.

24-03-2007, 08:38 PM
ok, so a few have stated it before me, but I will say it anyway. The flame thing is a cool idea, but it doesn't match the character, might just be the color. So, I'm thinking if you made it a black flame and like gridlinked said, make sure the alpha vanishes at the bottom.
As for your pose, you gotta think of something, as it is now, it looks like you just took the arms and moved them down as far as they would go without deforming wrong. Twist some body parts, bend fingers, turn the head. Give the winning pose something that says, I just killed your family, and I still sleep great at night. Or, your mamma taste good, your sister does too. And your doddy, he was the best of them all.
shadowbreeze
25-03-2007, 12:06 PM
thanks guys for the good input i do mean it, first the funny thing is it was posed oh well, the flames will be staying as it was part of the idea but now they have the faces in them and i took your advice Big Toe and toned them down they were a bit bright, but the reason for the green colour was to tie the bottom bit in more with the top, as for the alphe i TOTALLY AGREE i don't know what went wrong it was picking up reflections from the lights, even though the spes map wad black in that area ??? i think i've fixed it now.
this part (lighting) is going to take up my time now so i don't think i'll get the weapons done :grr: here's another go
oh one last thing "just killed your family, and I still sleep great at night. Or, your mamma taste good, your sister does too. And your doddy, he was the best of them all." FUNNY STUFF splattered coffee everywhere,

I personally like the skirt a lot (sorry don't know what to call it). I agree with BiG ToE regarding the posing. Keep it up as it is a fantastic entry. Pity no weapon :(.

25-03-2007, 01:12 PM
By the flaming testicles of Odin, that's scary as hell! It was already scary, but that pose nails it's "personality" completely!
And the "skirt" now looks spot on!
shadowbreeze
25-03-2007, 06:17 PM
0202742 - lol yeah i think skirt is the only way to Describe it and i just realized i'm a day ahead here in Australia ( it's sunday night 10:30ish here now) so i think i have all of tomorrow to add stuff like the weapon, so Yes.
gridlinked - ****** loki again with the matches  exellent i was hoping so, i'm running with your approval and moving on.
the stand lighting still what ever, but i believe you can see the detail and i know what it looks like in doom3 ****** killed me straight out have to change his dammage;lol

Definitely the bottom one, with the red-ish light - it adds some tonal variety to the piece, and fits in nicely, as your creepy fella has a lot of brown tones.

hey shadow what program are you using. In max, you can change the background color to make it darker, then there is an option to adjust the lighting to match the background color. Could add a nice touch, if your looking for it.

Personally I would rather have much more warmth on that pink light. More red or something to create a contrast. But otherwise it's great as it is right now. Nice texture, and nice pedestal as well. ;)

Thanks Everyone, well i'm done, yes i could spend time on never ending things i'm not quite happy with, but my eyes are bleeding and i need the sun, no weapon it just does not look right with one and hey hey does have the steel talons and soul guns on his wrists.

Great job finishing up!
It's looking great.
I was hoping the mood of either the winning pose or the beautyshot will resemble the awesome mood established in the concept design. But, that's just me.
It's one of the most unique characters in this competition.
