Hey guys! Hoping to help out 3d Total here with some mechanized death!

After a bit of thinking I managed to come up with this, the UC2A "Wraith"
UC2A stands for: Urban Combatant Mk. II Assault variant

I know my concept art Isn't all that great, but I hope to make up for it with the actual model and texture.

With that, I say let's show the pathetic meat-sacks what true power is! Let the rise of the machines commence!

the only problem I see, would be the fact that it looks like someone has to drive it. If you can get the point across that the cockpit section is empty, or better yet, remove the cockpit altogether, you will be good to go.

In the meantime: post a thumbnail in the thumbnail page

yeah its hard to tell from just a small side view that there is infact no cockpit at all

itll be easier to tell that once its in 3d - and in the end the big , inexplicably glowing red, sensor "eye" cluster will probably solidify that ;)

think sorta like how the Cylons are - the idea is that the AI change bodies like we change clothes - for combat they would transfer (download if you like) they're AI conciousness into a combat body, or "battleform", or whatever you want to call it, for work or other duties another body, ect

but one step at a time

about the thumbnail, where do i find that? ive got one at the dominance war II site, but if its somewhere else could you link me?

its all good, when I left the thumbnail message, I didn't see yours, but after I refreshed the page, it showed up.

Looks a lot like the Vulture mech from Mechwarrior, if you replaced the missile pods with gun weapons. Since i like the Vulture, i like this! :)

Mech warrior...one of my favorite mech games :)
Looking cool btw...you could also add arms to it :D, that would loof superb.

Well, sorry for no updates at all until now! Its been an odd month. I got really sick for about a week, then had a busy week with lots of stuff going on. Finally got around to working on this project. I modeled the original concept nearly to completion...and decided I totally hated it. So, disheartened, I played around with ideas in 3dmax for awhile. After some work, I managed to come up with this, and am happy with so far. I hope such a drastic shift from my original concept is alright!

The new robot here will be humanoid in shape, carry its primary weapon, likely have a secondary arm based weapon of some sort, and have jump jets on its back.

update! progress goes slowly as i have been slack as all get out

but, time draws near, and the pressure builds - excitement! hopefully will be able to buckle down and finish this thing - must game/party less! =P

ok, body is basically done - got about 500ish polies left (unmirrored polies that is) to build some extra stuff , notably shoulder weapons (folding cannon on the left, missile pod on the right), and hopefully jump jets on the back

then ill construct the weapons, an auto rifle for the right hand and a large shield for the left

you got any screengrabs to show your wireframe and tri count.

as you requested, here it be

main body is done, unless i randomly think of something else i want to add...but im happy with this i think

last things to build are an auto-cannon for the right hand, and a large tower style shield for the left hand - these will count as my 1k "weapons / gear" portion, since they are not part of the mech's chassis like the back weapons are, and are held in either hand

btw if you cant read it, the poly count there is 5520 had to shrink that pic down abit , made it blurry

oh one more thing - i know someone will mention the polygons that run down the middle of the torso area - well those are like that because i intend to keep it as a mirrored half until ive got it unwrapped - basically just endup having to texture one half then mirror it, i like how it keeps everything looking really sharp

the only downside is lack of the ability to do asymmetrical designs across the mirrored parts (ie like a big scorch mark across the chest area ect), but IMO its a price im willing to pay

you might want to rethink the mirrored texture look. You have a 2048 texture map, thats huge. You could also break that down to (4) 1024 texture maps. This means you have plenty of room to make "sharp" textures, without mirroring.

hrm...well that would take me more time that i really dont want to spend on this, honestly

however it would enable me to put text on it, which would indeed be cool (mirrored always ends up with 1 backwards part heh, looks borked)

ill think about it...

*edit* upon reflection on that thought, perhaps it would be best, and easier to maintain sanity while unwrapping, if i separated it into 4 1024s - 1 for the hands, head and feet; one for the arms upto the shoulder socket; one for the legs and abdomen; and a final one for the torso and back mounted weapons

hrm...could work out good that way

*revenge of the edit* wait a sec...2048 divided by 4 is 512...eh that might look ok still -- alternately, i could divide it into 2 1024s...arms / torso / head on one, legs / abdomen / shoulder weapons on the other

alrighty! we're in buisness! auto cannon and shield are modeled, im happy with the results, its gettin' down the wire time wise - time to uvw unwrap and texture this thing - the fun part!

on a side note id like to thank you for the advice and interest thus far BiG ToE-3DT, as the one person to show even remote interest in my progress after my design change, its most appreciated - again i hope it is ok to do so, i just felt the other concept was far too vehicle like, and wanted something more robotic (ie hands, held weapons, ect), i think it fits the contest guidelines better

however, lack of popularity aside, im going to finish it up, im rather happy with it thus far - especially considering this is the first humanoid character ive ever done (im primarily a vehicle/object modeler), its been alot of fun and a great challenge thus far!

welp, got the entire thing unrwapped to 3x 1024 maps (one for the weapons, one for the torso / arms, one for the legs and back weapons) and ive started texturing it

got the gun done, will have the shield done later tonight
