View Full Version : Which should be done first : texturing or rigging ?

I have just finished modelling a human model in T pose and I'm going to rig him. My purpose is to create some scenes with the character in various poses, no animation here. I have practised rigging separately but never done it in a complete project before. Since texturing requires accurate mapping, should I do it before or after rigging to the pose I wish ? Some people working in 3D that I know often exchange the order of these 2 tasks. That's why I'm here to ask.

Thanks for helping.

I would say that most of the texturing should be done before rigging.
But thats just my opinion. I don't think it matters too much if you texture before or after rigging.
The rigging shouldn't affect the textures, it will be when you pose your figure that you may need to tweak a few areas.

its depends, essentially its both. You cant rig a model until you have a good mesh to work with, and that requires lots of back and forth with the models/rigs. Only when the model works well with the rig can you go on to build normal maps/textures.
