View Full Version : Gods Phoenix | Dominance War II
I just found out about this war today so I signed up immediately. I will have some images up very, very soon.
Here's the 1st concept of Mercura
http://www.godsphoenix.com/galleria/albums/userpics/10001/concept01-0217.jpg
Being my 1st competition, I'm going to work with a simple design. I may add more complex designs if time permitting.
The weapon (not drawn to scale) can cut, bash, or pierce. It has two of them and I'm debating if they should be attached to its torso in which they can also function as grappling devices.
The function of Mercura is like Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak, The Protector) with superspeed. It's purely offensive aside from using evasion and parrying as defense. Primarily close-quarters melee, it will have a secondary ranged weapon only used for suppression. It's not a stealth machine.

nice concept, lets crack some skulls, Ong-Bak style.
Ok. The last concept was a quick sketch just to get me in officially.
I still don't have a back view, but this one is a lot more of what I had in mind.

I decided not to attach the weapons to its body. They don't look like blades, but that's what those things are on the shins.

If you dont see any pics it's becuase I switched to a new web host and I'm in the process of reinstalling my Image Gallery. I will post a new image once I'm good to go.
Hmmm... I gotta find someone to give me some feedback

hey, it's coming along. i would thicken out the cheeks on the face a bit. also the chest might need a little lift. of course the arms need to be slender. finally, would say the topology needs to be optimized to get rid of some of the triangle shaped planes. this is especially so around the collar. keep it up.
Cool. I did the cheeks like that on purpose. I still have internal parts that go behind its mask. I did lift the chest once already (compare to previous image), but you are right; it still needs more. I just realized that my sternum is way to big too. The collars are crap; I will come back to the collars once I get the rest of the torso updated and done. I'll thin the arms a little, for the sake of the female appeal, it should still look formidable. I have a bad habit of procrastinating optimizing topology. Feedback much appreciated.

Looks really cool GP. My suggestion. Draw the jaw back inwards. In the last render it looks to protruding a bit. You need it to shift back just a little bit.
Well, it's exactly 6000 polys
http://galleria.godsphoenix.com/albums/userpics/10001/build-0319.jpg
I wanted to post the normal mapped version, but some of the polys didn't project correctly.
It was originally to have 6 communication/sensor devices on the back of it's head, but I reduced them down to two. I needed more polys in other locations in order for the normal map to project properly within the envelope.
I don't think I'll take the HiPoly to LoPoly route anymore, unless I have to.
The next posts will be the normal mapped version and the weapons.
Oh yeah, the correct sensor wasn't duplicated to the other side at the time of capture, so you can still see the older terrible looking sensor.

Looks great. Will you give it a chrome finnish?
Thanks for the comments. The blades will have nice finish on them. Mercura's enemies will see a fearful reflection of themselves before their ultimate demise. The rest of its body not sure, I need to do quick research on some carbon/alloys/metals/etc. that will meet the design specs for functional plausibility, or simple create a fantasy element...
which would save time.
So begins the texturing process...

So far, I am satisfied with the normal map using Maya's Transfer Maps.
Note: The Hipoly doesn't show the face extrusions I did for the neck cables.
Not much of an update, no weapons yet...

But I will finish

Looks fantastic, hope you get time for the weapon.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen events, I was robbed of 26 precious hours to finish. But who wants to hear excuses :grr: You wanted results!!!
But for the 2 of you who might read this, After coming home from a series of car accidents (im ok no blood loss or bruises, just a bit of glass dust still in my hair), I figured I could at least do the winning pose without having the weapons, booooo!!! :grr:. I ended up skipping the detail layer of textures to get my pedestal and pose done. By the time I got to rigging the hands it was 11:57. Realizing I was gonna need another hour or so, I stopped with great disappointment.
At the very least....

If there is at least one person who would like to see it finished before the next comp starts, just post. :hurt:

Thanks all, I'll continue this thread in a more appropriate forum on this site. I'll make better use of my time earlier on; allocate Emergency Use Time for the next time a deer decides that it wants divebomb my passenger side window and for Jeep Cherokees that rear-end you when you're on your way to get the window fixed... lol
