at Max4d's request i started this in a new thread...so here it goes :D:D:D:D

there u go Max4d....happy????:D:D:D

so be it...here's how we're going to do this...

1. we think of a theme...i would like it to be only fantasy, mithycal or something like this....
2 evryone makes 3 to 5 drawings...may be the same character but from diferent angles...the drawings are to be made black/white in pencil only
3 . we vote the best not only the ones that are in the contest can vote...
4. the best 3 drawing go to phase two....coloring....then evry contestant trys to color them as best as possible or at least...he "tryes" this is for some of us that dont know S*** about PS or ather like that
this way we can gain as much experience as posible...if u have ather sugestions let me know ok :P)))

by the way...there's going to be no price for this ...if u'r in it good...if not ...GOOD!!!
we wont mind

Ooh, I mite do this, just for a laugh, so ehhh, count me in :) What kinda theme is it again? Fantasy? So elves, dwarfs adn the like? I'll see what I can do? Is there to be no shading on the first drawings? This should be fun. So whats the prize? :D

Hey dudes

Ever666, nice of you to start the thread. I was wondering , do we just make the head of the character or do we mak the entire body with clothes and stuff. My personal favorite is off course only the head, but I guess that is not really a challenge any more.

BlackRobe: You are right, we are going to do some dwarven, elven etc creation :D:D. If correctly the first drawing should be shaded. Oh yeh there is a price you can win, experience it is called :D:D. Maybe Tom wil sponsor this competition :D:D

Hey dudes

I have been busy making an icetroll for the competition me and ever666 are making. I would love to have some comment’s on this one. He may look a bit to much human, but I didn’t draw fangs or other stuff like horns.

So please give some good and harsh comment on what to improve.

looking good max 4D, now we are talkin!

now dont mess it up with funky shading!
look at comics and pictures and real life, and see what the shadow really look like!
the line work is way better than previus stuff you've done tho!

hey guys

at first i wasn't going to enter
but i know max4d would really like me to, and since i was trying
to work out one of my characters anyway, here's my chance to
share my work and please max at the same time ;)

i play dungeons and dragons with some adults i know (i call them
this since they are around 26, 35 and 41 while i'm 16 :)) and i
really like the character i'm currently playing with, making me
eager to visualize him and probably help him work his way to 3D

he's really an alternative character, sort of going against all d&d
common theories :) it's a so called Wild Dwarf. He was abandoned
as a baby, almost starved to death until a young elf woman
found him and took care of him secretly. Secretly because her
elven community was at war with a dwarven clan at the time.
Keeping him secret for years she raised him with all her love until he was 8
years old, when one of the elven elders found out about him. They
were both cast out and abandoned to survive in the woods.
Sacreficing most of the food they could get their hands on to the
dwarven boy, the mother died of starvation. The tough kid
managed to survive on his own though, and has now spent most
of his life hunting and sneaking around the woods as a Ranger.
This whole traumatising experience supplied him with part great
fascination, part hatred for the elven race.

His name is Bimdur Nadûhriath, and his alignment is 'chaotic
neutral'. As you can see, his name is part elven, part dwarven.
I really want him to come out into visualisation with the right
feeling. I want him to look very tough, very much on his own,
savage, and with a slight magical touch.

http://www.stungun.nl/bimdurevo1.jpg

You can see his evolution until now, going from the left to the
right, i'll be updating this later. Note that this is a composition, I
didn't actually draw these 3 right next to each other or something :)

hope you guys like it so far, sorry for the long story ;)

well I cant draw and I have no imagination. But how about once the best pic is done. they can do some blueprint style drawings and have a comp who can model it in 3D the best? Just a suggestion. I dont know how many people would be interested in modeling it but it could be worth a try.

That would be nice for the people who only do 2D,
but me being a 3D guy also, I would love to do my own character
once it's done, and would not really like to see anyone else doing it.

But I'm pretty sure there would be some other guys that would
like the idea of their 2D being brought into 3D by someone else.

so, that's why we got > > a colored version of the sketch!

this is just something i did to give myself an idea
it's not like i'm done sketching now :D, i'm still going to try and

dang...im working on a fantasy scene, but i kinda didnt leave the original line work (except for some VERY early sketching of the scene), oh well

(this was a quicky, done in less than five, just to get theh general pose and look of teh scene)

and here is what i got on the coloring sofar...or am i ahead of the rest of ya?

i think you should set the rules a bit clearer, hehe, so i can find some way to twist them and turn them, so that i can submit this one

Stungun
09-04-2003, 08:55 PM
errrr, well evil-radish

we're actually supposed to do black and white pencil drawings
yours looks like a wacom color drawing
so officially... we're not really sticking to the plan :)
although i'm going to keep on sketching some more, the colored picture was just to see how it would look

you're scene looks like it's gonna turn out great though!
honestly didn't expect that to follow out of that very rough sketch of yours :D

keep it up guys,

Hey dudes

I am very happy to see people applying to this little contest, but it seems to get a bit out of hand. Like ever666 said, first black and white drawings and then colored ones. Not sooner. Just follow the rules set bye ever666 and all will turn out just fine. :D:D:D

Sniper: I will give you my finished troll picture. You could make it in 3d if you want. I will post it around sunday. Would feel honoured if somebody made it in 3d.

Yes Max, I'm in, and here it is... It's just the pencils at this point, the inks will soon follow. Expect this one to really start to breathe when the colours come into play tho'.

Sorry to be a party pooper tho' Sniper I'd prefer it if you didn't model these as they are already going to be used for a model project of mine. Although if it's just for practice I guess it's ok. :) Just don't go building a model and selling it on the black market in exchange for a huge castle from which you will start a huge drugs cartell and eventually take over the world. That's my plan!!!

the first one is supposed to be a battle mage...

MonteCristo
12-04-2003, 02:35 PM
Yeah they are actually puppets, controlled by the little imp on top. If you look at the second puppet, you can see he also has a seat and some stirrups. Both puppets are made from wood, but they don't look that way yet because the wood grain will be added during the coloring stage. :D

EvEr666
12-04-2003, 02:35 PM
this second one is an ather battle mage...from the same"race" :D:D

MonteCristo
12-04-2003, 02:37 PM
EvEr666 that's a creepy looking weapon. I don't think I'd like it being stuck in me. But if some one did, I don't think I'd like them to take it back out again. Judging by the design, that would just hurt worse.

Hey

I don't wan't to be a partypooper but i don't agree with ever666. We set some good rules and people have to obay. Next thing people will send everything they ever drew. So the rules are, only fantasy!!! So BlackRopbe i suggest you make other stuff for te comp, you have got what it takes, that's for sure :D:D

But i don't aprove of all the people that wan't to bend the rules. Just read the rules again. If you don't agree, then don't enter.

EvEr666

hey... Black_Robe...if u want only to color the drawings that's ok...anyway the best drawings are to be colored ...

Max4d
18-04-2003, 05:30 PM
Hey dudes

Sorry Blackrobe, i meant rich. My fault. I hope no hard feelings :D:D

I finished my troll character by shading him completely :D:D Evil radish warned me about it already but it seems that I have done it again by completely screwing up my character again. The shading is in my opinion totally useless and I find it very hard to use a good amount of shading that will improve the reality of my character. I have to do some serious studying at that department :D, but I never thought it could be so hard to actually shade a character perfectly, or maybe I am just that untalented :D.
I made this head for the competition, but I don't know if I will draw a body to that. I know that was the rule, but I want to do some studying first at making bodies, hair and poses before I make this character complete. I just learned that serious sketching improves my learning process greatly. The characters I have drawn now are ,more thing that should be drawn after a study of heads and shading per character. Therefore I mostly screw my character up because I didn't do research and I use to much time at finding out I screw it up. I will post my research for my next character, but in my opinion you guys should move on, because I am slowing this competition down. Therefore I think that ever666 should make a certain deadline that things have to be finished in black and white I myself will certainly not make it, because I would rather do some serious studying than jus t make some quick sketches and calling them finished. I hope you guys will understand.
But I would like to ask you guys to give some serious comment on this character and please be harsh. Certainly you MonteCristo, you seem to have some good knowledge. And If you ran into Micheal, please ask him if he could draw over my character and show me how the shading SHOULD be. So please giove some hard comment, because I am making these thingies for a portfolio and I recently found out I screwed up. And I have just eight months to correct it all and do some serious sketching.

Greetz Max4d

PS, the pictures are made with a digital camara, so the quality is quit bad, bad lightning.

Well straight from the top of my head I can tell you that you are using just waaay too much black here. It also goes for your other works but this one is really a good example of that. I like high contrast drawings, but the constrast here is very 'hard' and most of all 'sudden' in some places, especially his wrinkles. This could be cause by the possibility that you might be starting to shade on the brighter side of the character. That makes 'grey' your brightest tone, apart from the background, quickly causing the rest of the darker areas to be blackish or completely black. I find this all very hard to explain to you (especially in english!), but I'll show you all of this when I'm coming over to you this summer, you'll be ok. I still really dig the sharpness in your drawings, the way you handle the material. That's something you could teach me in return!

Keep up the spirit,
- Stungun

ahh, you did it again =)

here. this might help. i started coloring it and my comp crashed...then i tried again and my comp crashed again....both times i was almost finished. ahh the frustration! anyways third times the charm right, anyways, i did it really quick.

the first step when shading is deciding where the light is coming from, my pic is not perfect, far from it, but it migh give you an idea of what it shoudl look like.

Hello guys,

After getting some comment on my heads and the rising suggestion of making body’s I decided to actually make a body. Well, if I thought that drawing a head is difficult, just try making a body. I chose for a waterelemntal. This way, I didn’t have to make hands or feet :D:D

I must say that I ripped the design from the blizzard departement and I know that’s not very creative but to me it was also a practise on body and on shading. The head of the elemental is on purpose this small. The abodimanls truly suck in my opnion, have to do some serious studying on that departement. In my opinion, I think the whole buddy sucks, but I hope that experience and time will solve this problem.

I truly hope you guys wil give me some comment on how to serious improve. I think I could use that kind of critisism very well because this body looks like **** to me :D:D.

Hey guys

Here is my first coloring try ever, I thought it would be a good practise for me to make a colored version of my waterelemental. Well… it proved to be a good practise and I learned much from it, especially how much I suck in the way of coloring a character :D:D. I used Caran D’ache color pencils, but man, they are very hard to handle. I need to learn very much in that direction. Also I redrew the abdominals and other stuff. I think I will improve this image tonight, better color harmony and stuff.

Therefore I would like some commend from you guys on how to improve my characters and posing, shading and other stuff. I also did some tests as you can see and I found out that the green-yellow color sceme( on the right side of the pic) would be great, but I was to late to apply ity on the posing elemental.

Further, these images were made with digital camera, but they all got blurred and I had to sharpen them with photoshop. The quality is not the same as the drawing in real life.

Hope to get some comment
