Hi guys
I brought eva training Dvd's. But i am having a problem, I creating the nose with a plane as the tut says in the left viewport I move the plane up-to the front of her face i have added the edit poly and selected the vertex mode here is the problem when I select that i cannot see the vertex's dot hardly on eva's default photo.
the second problem is when i go into select object and i see the plane still in the middle of her face. what am i doing wrong?
Thanks

Are you able to zoom in on the viewport. If you use the magnifying glass tool you will be able to zoom in right? Did you watch the introductory movies? In one of the first movies I talk about how to navigate the max viewports and explain that a wheel-mouse is particuary important when doing 3d modelling. You can roll the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the scene, or you can use the magnifying glass tool in the bottom corner to do the same job.
Is this the problem? Or do you need to explain it another way, with a different screenshot zoomed in a bit? At the moment it looks fine, (sort of) the only problem i can see is that you are zoomed out too far.

yes i am able to zoom in but if i do zoom in then i cannot put an image on this website b/c it will say its to big. yes i have watched the intro to the movie. i have been using 3ds max for 8 months, i know how to navigate through the viewports. i am not a beginning with 3ds max.
there is only one way to explan a problem is not there? as i said i cannot add a big screen shot because it will say the image is to big

well, why do you use an image hosting site, like imageshack, 3dshowreel or photobucket.

OK, I think I have your answer....
1). The vertices being too small... You can make Max display vertices at a larger size. By default they are set to "2" Let's try knocking them up to "3".
In the menu bar, select Customize/Preferences.
Select the "Viewports" tab.
Next to "Show Vertices as Dots", change the Size to 3.
Click OK
Your Vertices should now be larger.
2). As to the Plane still being placed in the centre of Eva's face... You need to select the verts to the right of the plane and move them to the central line.
To see the line, Press the "G" key on your keyboard. This will bring up the grid. The thick line is the centre line. You can turn the grid off by pressing G again at any time.
Select the verts on the right-hand side of the plane.
Right-Click on the the Select and Move button (The cross Icon on the top row of icons in max).
Set the X co-ordinates to "0".
This should centre the verts.
Does this solve your problem? :)
Let me know.
Cheers,
Monte.

2 things:
1) Change the colour of your plane object to something more useful than the pale blue colour. Even though, I go through this later on, let's add a grey colour:
Press M to bring up the material editor. Drag the next available grey material onto the model. Then set Self-illumination to 40. You should be able to see more easily now.
2) You need to switch edged faces on in the viewport in order that you see the flat object from the side. To do this hit the F4 key. Press again to turn them off if you wish.

Did you try what I said?
If not save your file. and post it as an attachment. I'll see if I can figure out what's going on.

Well, you have my email. I suppose you might as well just send it directly to?

Ok, I think I've solved this. It IS the F4 key that is supposed to bring up edged faces. However, some keyboards have multi-functions for the F keys. I have a key on my current keyboard which has a jigsaw puzzle symbol on it. If I don't press this everytime I enter Windows, then the function on the F keys is changed. So if this hasn't been pressed the instant wireframe won't work.
However, you don't have to use the F keys to do this, you can just take the manual route:
In the currently selected viewport (in your case you want to do this in the LEFT viewport), right-click on the word "Left" in the top corner.
This should give you a list of options...Views, Smooth + Highlights, Wireframe, etc...
...select "Edged Faces".
This should solve the problem. As to your keyboard, I don't know what you are using, so you'll need to research which is the F-lock key to press.

Okay, kid. :)
On the CD, select the route: html/extras. Copy this folder and the file called Starter_01 to where you are saving the file. Use this local version of the file to start your work on. Don't just open the file off the cd. Hopefully this will solve your problem. Save the file with a new name to somewhere else and then close max.
Now reopen Max and the file. hopefully it should be working. You've done very little so far so you may as well start again like this. :)

Whoops. Messed that up slightly...
I meant to say: Copy the folder called "starter" and the file called Starter_01...

It's all in there. Especially in the early stages. Remember you can always scroll back through the movie and see how I got to where I got. And don't forget the whole thing is written down with screenshots too. Just take it steady and do as I do.
It seems like you have a lot to learn, but I can't tell you every tiny thing, or we are going to be here for the rest of our lives. ;) As I said, the movies should have everything you need to do this. Go back to the beginning of the movie and see if you have everything that was done there. Make sure as you finish each movie that your model looks like mine before you move on to the next one. If it doesn't, then you've missed something.
I think you need to take these early parts really slowly. Don't rush or you will struggle later on. Patience is really important. If you have to do a stage several times to ensure you've got it sussed out, then so be it. :)

lol if you would have make the movie in quicktime or media player instead of IE it would have been easier to follow in IE you cannot go back a step you have to keep left click rewind and it start from the beginning! thats a big pain in the Butt lol,

You shouldn't have to do that. It's true that the BBFlashback ffwd and rwd controls buttons are a bit lame, but there's a scroll bar embedded at the base of the Flash Movie, which is easily as good as Quicktime, just drag it to the place you want and press play.
