I got Maya and Softimage's DEMO's there kool.
Max is starting a leases program. On the left under Price and Availability.
http://www.creative-3d.net/max5.cfm so ya can bet I will get Max.

My few reasons for wanting deferent Apps.

1_After you 3D for years and years ya get burned out in the same App.

2_The more ya know the less chances of being unemployed.

3_Since the 3D Price Wars I can now all most afford them :)

Does Maya,Softimage Lease there Apps also ? and got a URL ?
I looked on there sites never did see a Lease here Link.

And does Max have tools in it like RightHemisphere or BodyPaint ?
To paint right on a 3D Mesh ?

Thanks

it is pretty cool that discreet is leasing max. however i still maintain that programs don't really matter, as long as you know one program well you'll be ok. like i said if anyone really mastered any one of them (lw, max, maya, si, mirai) i would expect that to learn another one and get good at that is only a matter of figuring out where things are and what they are called. i'm confident that this would take less than 6 months, probably less than 3 if you were workin on it every day for a few hours.

in the end i think what matters is conceptual aspects of 3d graphics and developing an eye for 3 dimensional detail and the ability to translate/extrapolate that into a program.

as for actual pricing, i actually admire how discreet didn't play in the price wars. lightwave has always been cheaper, that's a nice thing about it. maya however i have to call shenanigans on, they have two versions, complete and unlimited. complete is just a 2.5k version of unlimited with quite a few important features locked out. the only reason i think they even released this scaled down program is to compete with max and even then its not the "real" thing that unlimited is. sounds kinda shady to me, release a "lite" version of something to compete with max which has always been one latest version and complete. but that's business. i have no idea the prices of softimage so i can't comment there and as for mirai, however amazing it was and changed how artists work, no one has heard from nichimen in quite a while and i'm not sure that company is even around anymore, that's a shame but i woudln't use a program that didn't have any future support and new versions coming.

anyhow about your comments i would have to disagree personally with two of them

1) i've found that after 7 years with max i've become more interested in it not less. the burnout thing hasn't happened to me or to most artists that i've talked to. that's just a personal thing though.
2) i think its more important as to the more you know in terms of the more skilled you are, not necessarily the more programs you know. i think its better to master one program than dabble with 4 programs.
3) this i absolutely agree with you :)

well take care and good luck with your 3ding

Hello Kuman

Either I read it wrong or creative-3d change Lease for Subscription.
but it's not a lease it's a subscription.sniff sniff.

I have TrueSpace 6,LightWave 7

They both work differently and I learn and grow buy using both.
been checking out Maya's DEMO it gives me new insite in to ways of doing things also.
So what I learn in one App I can apply in all Apps.
I want to be the best I can and seeing things from a deferent perspective seems to help.

Yes for me it was alot easier to learn my 2nd 3D App.
And no matter what App ya use it ant the App it's the Artist using the App that counts.

Thanks

I have looked into the subscription after reading this post.
After browsing through the info, it looks like the subscription is not really worth it. This is how I take it, first you have to buy 3dsmax, then purchase a subscription. When first reading this post it sounded like you get to use Max for a year with a purchase of the subscription. Am I right or wrong???:(

Ya, I read through that and it was a little confusing. You get all the upgrades that happen throughout the year, and you get free training, etc. But I didn't see where it said you do or don't get Max. I emailed them asking, but I think you have to purchase The latest version of Max then join the subscription.

If it was the other way I was gonna join up in a heartbeat, but o well. I guess I need to start saving (You know, for a legal version). :(
