Disintegrate a character into dust

Hi all

I need to disintegrate a character into dust. could anybody help for the best approach to go about and do it in Maya?

I had a look on the example in the gnomon free tutorials which disintegrate an object into dust

I just need further explanation or a video tutorial that could help.
