View Full Version : Speed Painting Challenge no. 62.
Hi guys, I hear you are all in need of some speed painting goodness. Waheed is missing from cyberspace due to some horrid virus. So I will be stepping in here to assist and maybe get back in touch with a art form that I once enjoyed so much.
Being that I am the "noob" around these parts I think it best for us to introduce our selfs, What better way then a:
Toipc: SELF PORTRAIT
this was done as the very first of these great speed challenges way back in 2004!!!!
Medium: Any and all; pencil / paper , air brush, oil, water color, chalk, computer (painter, photoshop, paint brush :p ) , etc. Just no photos with a photoshop filter run over them
being that the week is almost over lets set the due date to be Saturday April 7th any time that day is fine, im very lenient with deadlines :)
nice used! btw here was a “portrait” topic in latest months of 2006 which most ppl did self portraits! but it’s even nice to do it again! so we can use what we learned on that challenge! I always liked to do my portrait again! so better doin it for a challenge! :D  ;)
Ok guys! Here’s what ya need! so take your brushes n start painting yourselves! :D

I found the old forums on this topic by accident and there's some very cool stuff in there.
I was hoping this challenge was still running and now it's back... :haha:
Praise be to Threedy and Used!
I will be posting my entry soon........

oh, forgot to ask, does it have to be a realistic portrait?
nope, you can be realistic or go cartoon, you could even do something abstract

Here is my entry, about four hours, give or take. Wacom Int.2 tablet,
photoshop 7, with two refrence photos. the first is the entry, the second is just a detail shot.
Thanks so much for doing another challange!
Hexonal, Wow excellent. Did you paint over the reference photos?
05-04-2007, 01:14 AM
no, i do a base sketch, then block out sections with the lasso, and do a gray blotch, dodge and burn technique to get a basic grayscale image, then add detail and color layers. I think the tattoos were the hardest part.
If anyone wants to know what I really look like, here are the images i used:

How do I post an image more than 100k, it says file too large :(
upload it to a hosting site, like imageshack ... then just use the image tag feature in your posting...

Hey MoKhatib, I think I prefer the 2nd one also, to me it's more vibrant and alive, I like the edgy expression. Nice work.
nicely done guys! I did not have time to make anything worth posting last week :(
so lets get the voting going here

My vote is for rodriguez, I like the style, almost looks like scratchboard. I've always been a fan of high contrast black and white
Sigh! seems I lost this! I did something but can't submit cause of some connection problems! :(
btw good works here you did, I'll submit my votes atleast!
