When I look at her...I see princess too, but I think thats only because her texture makes her look younger...so I think princess. So maybe you should go back the the face texture and work on making her seem older and more wise. More like a queen.

When I was modeling i decided to change the helm...to fit the design of the armor a little better and it also saved me a bit of polys too.

Nice job with the folds Smokescreen.=)
It doesn't look that bad on the uvmap sheet, but on the model they come out looking really linear. Try tweaking it so that you get some variety to the way in which the cloth folds; I think that could rope you a much better effect

Temetry- I dont know how to further tweak the folds moreso than I already have. I guess i could try to play with the curves in Photoshop but that will only make the darks darker and the lights lighter.
Just one word of caution...im not the best modeller in the world but I do know that if you model the arms parallel to the floor you'll have issues with rigging. I was always told to go at a 45 degree angle. But thats just me. Looks wicked tho :D

-lol and I'm also going to agree with him on his suggestions for the queen, I also think that to aid in the now "queens" dress, if you have some spare poly's I'd go back in and add a edge loop or two in the torso, and dress. With a little tweaking it will fix up the bottom of the dress and torso from looking so perfectly cylindrical .

Khalmuck- yeah i have about 300 spare poly's to use so I very well could add more to her dress and actually model in the folds to some degree.
As with the arms, it was commonplace at school to not do parallel to the floor. I never really bothered to ask why other than it can cause shoulder problems with rigging.
And yes, I graduated from AiP in March :D

Realising that I'm running out of time.
This'll be the last update of this character until I have the third unit modelled and base texture applied. Atm I haven't a clue what to do for the third unit. Some sort of building I think.

-Smokescreen: Modeling the arms either way gives you certain advantages. I'm more used to modeling it that way so I was able to push out a good result real quick, and I traded that for maybe an extra half hour rigging.
-Platypus: That is some awesome texturing. I'm especially loving how you did the pants. ^^

A cheep trick that I use is to rotate my model 45 degrees when I model the arms, then rotate back when I am finished. That way, it is parallel when I model and angled when I rig.
Fast and easy.

Khalmuck: good to see it's not actually cell shaded.
About that creature. I can't help but think that the tiny details on it's feet will be lost when viewed from an RTS viewpoint.
Trying out baking Ambient Occlusion. Load the map below into winrar to access the video viewport render of the baked AO test. Will use this map to multiply over the texture i'll paint on (probably tomorrow).

Ianchaos, your model needs some edge loops at the knees, elbow and shoulders, and perhaps the wrist too so that it can bend properly. Those things that are hanging down the forearm could be done with a single plane with transparency. Leg looks a bit short too.

Thanks Yoyomon. Any advice is greatly appreciated. This is only the second figure that I've built that need to be rigged. The other one being for a previous low-poly challenge. Reading through a couple of books on using Maya as I go...so I'm really in the dark about how to do any of this. I figure the best way to learn is by doing.

Yea, yea - I know I didn't even get around to unwrapping my base. I'm busy with other, stupider things that always seem to get in the way. I've said it before and I'll say it again; I hate the Art Institute!!!
Once again, 3DT, thanks for the memories;) We laughed, we cried...a good time was had by all. And in the end, I will have a useable (group of) model(s) for portfolio...just not by the due date for this comp:( Good luck to any and all who actually do finish - I wish RobbieK and AvatarofShadows the best of luck especially, even though I know personally my "co-pilot" should be busy doing other models instead of her polar bear riding penguin soldiers....
Though, I'm an awful big hypocrite considering I've been slacking with that class anyway:)

Well here's my mount for my shaman. I'm going to try to shave off a few tris to add in some more details, and i'm sure i'll need to do some work on the joints to get them to work right, so I'll need some more for that anyway..sitting at 1498 tris as is.

I've decided to nix the carriage and instead model the Queen's son, Prince Heilan (1468 tris).

Using the C&C context from before with his mother, Heilan would be the equivalent of a Commando, with sniping abilities with a bow and building destruction with fireblasts.

Righto, starting uv unwrapping now. The ladder has a plane which will be transparency mapped, instead of modeling each step.
Sitting at 996 tris atm. Any suggestions what to do with the last 500?
Would modeling some ground under the tower be good? Plants?
Will prob do some sort of communication mast.

Finished the Textures for the solder, i changed the model a bit and optimized the heck out of it. This way I was able to add the white sashes.

i also finished the cannon model, still need to texture and get a third started, well here is hoping, if not i will at least have two of the three.

I have begun on the texture to the devil, but there is not much to see jet ;) I can't make it too the 29 because i got a busy weekend, but just too see how fare i can get i will continue.
So I just worked a bit on the texture, now that i had some time :)

Well, modeling done for the tower. 1499 tris. UV unwrapping well underway. Should be on track for completing this with all three models now.
Added a small generator and fuel barrels for it, also extended the sandbag wall and added more communication equipment in.

I think you should reconsider the size and scale of the generator. It seems very small in comparison to everything around it.

I believe it is to scale. When I add the vehicle and character in the same scene it should look ok, at least I hope it will.
Small diesel generators like these aren't all that big, as it only needs to be powerful enough for lights and the communication equipment.
Well if it does turn out to be too small when I put everything together it only takes a few seconds to scale it up.
