Hi, I'm a complete newbie to 3d and Maya, but I LOVE the artform and I'm trying to learn with nobody within a 100 miles to help me, so please forgive my stupid question but I can't seem to figure it out:

I'm trying to model a basic cow. I've done a cow body and a cow head seperatly. Now I want to texture them so I found a texture and applied it to the cow's body, which worked out perfectly, but when I apply it to the cow's head only a section of the cow head gets textured, the rest is not? I can render it and it stays the same so it's not a viewport problem. Maya shades in the other faces which are not textured but that's about it. I started the face by creating a box and then using the bevel tool to continue the face, but the only area that accepts the texture is the first box that I placed (that the rest of the face is beveled from).

Please could somebody help me figure this out because I'm totally lost as to what is wrong! Thanks a lot!!!!

Hey, i m not a Maya user but i think i can still help you a bit. Well first of all you dont really need anybody close to you to get help, the best and only help you need is right in front of you "Internet" : ).

Wel you can find hips of tutorial that can help you, Here s 2 links, one pretty simple and one advanced that will teach you all you need to know about UV Mapping.

The thing about mapping is that you cant really apply a texture on a character in one step unless its a plane color, because you need the mesh to anderstand how the texture is going to react on it.

So for that you need to actually break your character in different peaces to actually flatten the mesh so you can paint the texture on it, its called unwrapping.

I hope that can hep you good luck.
