I am making the graphics for a website, and I would really like to give it a glass/plastic look. For an example with the links I would like them to have a glass effect over an image of a sky, as if your looking at the sky through a glass window but with some kind of distorted border.
I have no idea how to do this and would love it if someone could explain to me what filter effects etc to use.
I am using Photoshop.
Thank You.

hmm.... I would create a black and white eightmap for the links, black on the outside gradiating towards white on the center.
Save that out to a .psd file.
Load up a sky image the same size as you previous link image.
Use the filter>distort>displace filter.
Select how much you would like it to distort the background image.
Click ok and choose the link image saved previously.
That should work. You may also want to add a layer style with a drop shadow or soft bevelling on the image after to enhance the efffect.
