Either the new max patch, directX 9 or new nvidia drivers...

OK well I installed all three of the new 3ds max 5.1 patch, directX 9, and the new nvidia drivers to supposedly take advantage of dx9 in 3ds max. But when I try to select it from the max startup thingo, it just syas it doesnt work properly and i gotta select a different option before it works properly...

So this doent really bother me, it's just a wasted download. But now I have been trying to play some video files (that worked yesterday) and the video just doent show up. The wierd thing is that this is only for compressed videos, uncompressed ones work fine.

So yeah I'm thinking its one of these things that I installed that screwed it up, anyone know which or how to fix it?

Are you using Max's Ram player to view the videos? Have you tried other players?

To me it sounds like either the nvidia drivers or the direct x. If you can maybe uninstall and reinstall an older version. I'd probably bet it's the nvidia though.

Yeah i tried using virtualdub to view the videos and it worked fine. I dunno what that means but anyways, I just used system restore to go back a few days and now everything seems to be working fine again... I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it :roll:

and btw my guess would be directx... cos that wouldnt have anything to do with virtualdub but would probably be involved in decompressing videos... especially with media player...

I hardly ever use the ram player so I can't say it's not the max 5.1 update.

Oh wait you were using Windows media player?

if you want to use the direct x 9
features u need a fully compatible direct x card
like radeon 9700 or less in the series (or better)

Or a GEFORCE XP card

if u have one of them
i dont know why it isnt working

try older drivers or maybe
beta newer ones
