3ds Max purchase now?

i'm going to buy 3ds max because i really really want it and i finally have the money. My question is, am i correct that R5.1 is the newest version out right now? also, is there a planned release date for a newer version (that i should wait for to buy it)?

I haven't heard anything about a release date for Max 6. So you can go ahead and buy Max 5.1. One thing though, go to the discreet website http://www.discreet.com and search for a reseller in your area. Resellers have specials all of the time so you should be able to get a little knocked off the price. Oh, and Discreet can be a little slow so plan for a 10 day turn around.

im actually planning on buying it with a student discount, i should be able to get it for around 470

i can't use it for business applications, but it will be good to have so i can learn it

i have to admit when i first started using max when i was 16 i used a pirated copy. those guys at discreet work really hard and did a great job making a program that's amazing. i'm glad you're gonna give them support.
