I only have basic knowledge in 3ds max, so this question might sound stupid to some of you :)

Anyway, I made a 3d box that is animated, which I will later use as a scoreboard for a video I'm making. But in the background I would want there to be a video, so at first I made a green background in 3dsmax and used a green screen key in a video program to get rid of the background and put a video in the background. This way the result is pretty good, but not as perfect as I would want it to be, since the 3d box has many little holes and the video program has a hard time putting the green out in such small places so there is some green left in the end video.
So my question is, if you can render the box directly on a video file in 3ds max. I know that you can change the background in the program to be a colour or an image, but is it possible to put a video in?
I hope you can understand what I mean and I hope someone can help me!

Love the site, bye!

Hi

1. Open the material editor (keyhit M)
2. Scroll down to "Maps"
3. Klick on the None butten right to Diffuse map
4. Select Bitmap
5. Select the Filtype (avi, mpeg...)
6. Add the material to your Box

Regards Chris

PS: I know, my english is not pretty so just ask if you dont understan something

Looka, if you are familar with Video-Editing tools and know how to mix pictures with alpha-maps, then you can use the alpha-map created by max. In your render dialoge you can go to 'render elements' and add the alpha-element. It is a graysacle alphamap that only shows your objekts. It is perfect for further videoediting and combining.

Or like ChrisKringel said, you can also just put the video itself into max and render your objects onto it. You can use the environment dialoge to put the video even to the environment map.
To also see it in your viewport, you can go in max to the menu 'view' -> 'viewport background'. This allows you to position your objects correctly to the background.

By the way, if you want an object to be replaced by the background (like someone holding up a blue blanket while in a blue-box) you can give that object the 'matte shadow' material which was made for this.

Oh, I didn't even think about that!
Could you please tell me how to export an alpha map in max?

Thanks for the help
