I did this awhile back as well and I really didnt like the lighting so I relit the scene a couple of days ago. I rendered each light seperate and took it into photoshop to put the renders together. This is what I got, I am quite happy with it but of course there is always things I can improve on. Modeled in 3D Max 9 and rendered with mental ray.

You still need to work on the lighting and textures some.
I don't think you need to render out and put together in post-work - This is something that MR can handle with the right lighting scheme...
Your textures look too washed out - is this from the post work? They definitely should be brighter and more vivid, more colorful I guess.
You have too many conflicting light sources right now - your shadows are going everywhere...Think of a studio setup for an advertisement shot (this look like thats what this is) and think how the director of the shot wants very specific lighting to minimize harsh shadows and to light the product just right - consider backlighting too, very important in product shots.
Good luck and good start on this.

Thanks man, I agree with you totally. The lightsources are conflicting. I think the post work did wash out the textures, I used the screen blending mode in Photoshop to put them together. I tried using MR but I am still new to the whole renderer. Still learning, but thanks for the advice. It was much appreciated.

I agree with what has been said, if you were to remodel I would overhaul the milk + cereal in the bowl, it looks very flat

the reason for that is because its a map on a plane. maybe your right and I should have a mesh for each fruity pebble instead of the map. the lights dont seem to bounce right in the bowl as they should.

the cereal looks flat like the road outside my house, or a pnacake that has been frozen for 2 years
