_Pulling Teeth_

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g129/DJBiGToE/13726494.pulling_teeth.jpg

The idea,
Take the phrase, “Pulling Teeth” anyway you want to. What I mean is, do whatever comes to mind when you think about pulling teeth. You can either have two characters where one is pulling the other characters teeth out. Or, you can do something, completely different. This competition will be open, in terms of what you can and cannot do. Or, if you want, you can animate an apple computer having it’s teeth pulled out by a pc. You do not have to be tasteful. Sounds are up to you, have fun with it. If you don’t have a character to animate, you might be able to find one on the net, or just check the animation links thread (let us know you didn’t model it).

Rules

- The due date is August 12th, a Sunday, 12 midnight (GMT). Voting will be on that following week. Post your final entries in the Final Entry Thread.

- Minimum animation: your animation needs to include a minimum of 5 seconds, with or without music, do more if your bored.
-
- Recommended screen resolution in 320x240 (you can do 640x480 if you want, but why would you). I will.

- You can post W.I.P.s but you are only allowed one complete entry. That link is also final. You can and should post your wip’s to get help.

- Websites where you post your finals is up to you. (megaupload.com)(zshare)

- Remember, it's about animation, use your time for animation, not to get the best render possible, unless you can afford it.

- Use of plug-ins, ask first. Main animation Must be key framed (hand animated)

- Use QuickTime. It will allow everyone to view your hard work, plus it gives everyone the chance to go through your animation frame by frame to see how you did what you did

- You must post a render of some sort with your final entry post; also include a screen grab with key frames.

- Voting will be as follows -
- Vote on what best displays the motion -

First place (3) points
Second place (2) points
Third place (1) points

Good luck!

I'll always join every competition, but I've to finish my comp 23 first, because I'm weak at biped animation.

what about comp 23? it's finished yeT?

well, the last comp is just waiting for 1 person, so why we wait, I figure we can start work on the next.

ok BT :D

My scenario:

A rabbit soft toy was trying to pull off her front tooth with a thread tied to a door handle. After shutting down the door heavily, her tooth fell off. And someone was hit behind the door.

BiG ToE-3DT
19-07-2007, 03:13 PM
this is what I'm thinking, an old lady that talks too much is attacked by a big cross dressing alien. He removes all her teeth for educational use.

DerekSc
19-07-2007, 03:28 PM
Yikes BT! That's a bit morbid and scary! Looking forward to seeing it! :)

My idea is that the dentist is trying really hard to pull a tooth from his patient's mouth, and when he finally gets it to come out... it has the guy's brain attached to it.

Ties
19-07-2007, 03:55 PM
i was thinking about an dentist obsessed by this game http://www.areyougame.com/images/items/WM1049.jpg and tries to do something like that to a patient. (I don't know if i join, im very busy right now)

hahahhahaha... kind of brutal scene here :D

i want to animate this character and made an displacementmap for it, but it made some geometry in my mouth where i wanted to put my teeth. http://www.geocities.com/theties/displacement.jpg what should i do?

BiG ToE-3DT
19-07-2007, 06:19 PM
well the good news is, the teeth don't and in the case of pulling teeth, should not be apart of the main model. So model one tooth, then copy it and place them where they need to be. If the head is going to be moving, you can either link the teeth to the head, or head bone. Or not sure what it is called in maya, but in max you can skin the teeth to the head bone. So where ever the head bone goes the teeth go.

DerekSc
19-07-2007, 07:00 PM
You could actually just parent them to it, that would probably be fine.
Or do an upper and lower jaw bone and parent them to that (so the teeth move with the hinging of the mouth).

MaggieQue

This time maybe I'll late in submitting again, because I'll start from modellig, texturing, and rigging. I don't care about marks/points, because points doesn't mean strength. Now I only have this.

My right wrist is very painful..... ouch. Repetitive injuiry.

bajoe_2000
21-07-2007, 05:26 PM
why dont u use old model/download rig from net so you can concentrate on animation maggie? :)

MaggieQue
22-07-2007, 09:53 AM
Because I'm woman, woman is unreasonable.

I'm still weak at modelling, texturing and rigging.

that's why this old lady is about to have her teeth removed, so she can't talk anymore.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g129/DJBiGToE/011-3.jpg
this should be the doctor that helps men with the hearing problem. I'm still working on the textures, but it's basical there.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g129/DJBiGToE/017.jpg
don't mind his "probe", it will be gone when the animation starts, although it could give off some great second hand motion.

MaggieQue
23-07-2007, 05:02 PM
The old lady is very beautiful. I like her "Adidas".

Ties
24-07-2007, 08:07 AM
strange thing happened after rigging. So I will be busy reading about displacements in combination with animating for a while.

finally got my big man to work, maybe it's because of the holiday period but the animal challenge is dying Big Toe.

BiG ToE-3DT
25-07-2007, 03:07 PM
I had nothing to do with it. Infact I haven't shot at or killed an animal, ever.

BiG ToE-3DT
26-07-2007, 02:39 AM
Well, I will be away from the internet for about 5 to 6 days, and will not be able to answer any questions. But it shouldn't be a problem, I'm sure someone else nice enough can.

DaddyDoom
26-07-2007, 09:33 AM
The animal challenge is not dying... but it's almost. Apart from me and two other users, nothing moves over there... It's a dirty shame :(
Will there be any voting at all?

Ties
26-07-2007, 03:25 PM
i don't know daddydoom i think they should stop challenges in holiday periods. I always go and look animal challenge because i like it very much and it would be a shame if it would stop. I think the speed animation challenge needs a boost too. I'm glad there are people who keep the challenges going.

MaggieQue
29-07-2007, 08:24 PM
U will always have maggie. I will finish a series of 5 animation challenges, maybe I'll late when submit, but I'm sure I'll finish them!

MaggieQue
31-07-2007, 11:26 PM
My modelling skill is weak. This time I'm going to make a character with simple rigging.

MaggieQue
31-07-2007, 11:41 PM
I used "hose" as it's arms.

BiG ToE-3DT
01-08-2007, 02:08 PM
the hose may give you so problems. If you can, create a dummy object and place it at the elbow. Then link it to the object that moves the arm. Now try and figure out a way to make the center of the hose follow the dummy object, so that the hose will bend like an arm will.

MaggieQue
01-08-2007, 04:02 PM
I know what u meant, but I feel that animate "Tension" is better than using "dummy". Or using 2 hose models creating "elbow" look.

MaggieQue
02-08-2007, 04:40 PM
Boys and girls, what does it look like?

See that little thing follows my dummy.....

BiG ToE-3DT
02-08-2007, 08:06 PM
I'm glad you figured it out. Did you start animating yet?

MaggieQue
02-08-2007, 08:24 PM
No. But I have finished rigging. Haven't finished designing the room and texturing the character.

Some facial rigging.

MaggieQue
03-08-2007, 01:37 PM
I have started animating last night.

I'm a good girl.

Ties
04-08-2007, 07:08 AM
I will be waiting for a next animation challenge, because I'm very busy. Sorry, i never seem to have time to finish a challenge but I really intend to. I'll be watching Maggie and big toe on this one.
Ties

MaggieQue
05-08-2007, 04:34 AM
Bigtoe: Yeah, u're naughty "girl".

Ties: happy to hear that u're interested to my animation.

Do u like the way it moves?

BiG ToE-3DT
05-08-2007, 07:01 AM
it's got good timing and movement, but to really set it off, try adding some squash and stretch to his body as he jumps up and down. More squash as he hits the ground, then a bit a stretch as he jumps up.

ItsaMystery
05-08-2007, 07:56 AM
I think I'm going to just say in advance that I'm out for this comp (I still haven't finished the tiny last section of the groin kick animation >_o'). I'm just busy with some web development stuff I'm doing on the side, so I probably won't have time for now to work on the pulling teeth-ness. I'll check in later to see what awesome (and painful) animations there are, though. ;D

BiG ToE-3DT
05-08-2007, 07:33 PM
now that all my other comps are done, I shall start on this.

Think it get it started with a pose, the only problem is, what pose.

MaggieQue
05-08-2007, 08:05 PM
this is what I'm thinking, an old lady that talks too much is attacked by a big cross dressing alien. He removes all her teeth for educational use.

Maybe u could start from old lady talking in phone. Or maybe singing ?

MaggieQue
06-08-2007, 06:16 PM
I think I stretch too much, now the eyes are hiding in the face when jumping.

What should I do? Animate the eyes or delete stretching of face?

Edit: Do u prefer without stretch & squash?

MaggieQue
06-08-2007, 06:49 PM
I know how to solve it, just bind the eyes to the spacewarp.

We can't reset the FFD control points to their original position during animating, am I correct? Pressing "Reset All" will delete all the control points animation keys.

So I've spent quite a lot of times on setup of reset FFD control points to their original position under Parent Coordinate System.

I wire and making "ZeroHelp" for control points.

I haven't had any time to put into this lately, so I'm officially out of the running. Going to work on my demo a bit more and take another run at this whole "career" thing, so I may not be around here for a while.
I'll probably start a thread in the animation forum to get feedback on what I'm working on, I'll let you guys know since I value your opinions as animators.

MaggieQue
09-08-2007, 09:58 PM
Sometimes I was extremely bored when doing challenge. But if I was really in the real life working environment, I think it could be much more boring than this...... I don't know.

I need entertainment when doing challenge, could music really heal my soul? Or I need more chatting in forum?

hehehe..

MaggieQue

This time I want to render rabbit fur.

Haven't finished animating ears, facial expression and some FFD points.

BiG ToE-3DT

the fur will slow down the render time a whole lot. So make sure you got time.

MaggieQue

nvm, it's already late. Now my date & time is 13th April 2007 5:30am.

BiG ToE-3DT

I think you may want to play with the lighting Maggie. It's some real harsh hi's and shadows. Have you tried a simple skylight with the use of light tracer? It may/will add a few more seconds/minutes to your render, but it could be worth it, now that you have all the time in the world.

MaggieQue
17-08-2007, 09:04 PM
Thankyou BigToe.

I delete all the lights, testing fur without advanced lighting. But now the fur looks a bit strange. I don't know how it's going to be if render with Light Tracer and skylight.

The second one was rendered with Light Tracer, the "dark area" problem persists (I've set the Specular to zero). I think maybe it's caused by Self Shadow or Occluded Amb.

Ties
18-08-2007, 12:39 PM
can you show us an overview of your scene maggie.

BiG ToE-3DT
19-08-2007, 06:43 PM
come on Maggie, someone needs to finish this.

MaggieQue
19-08-2007, 08:30 PM
Ok, now I go rendering the scene of Camera02. I think it takes more than 1 hour. At the same time I need to iron the cloth. Now here is 4:30am.

Really nothing to see, it's a poor little house.

Edit: It looks strange....

What kind of computer do you have maggie? I didn't know any computer that could even support that many hairs lol

MaggieQue
21-08-2007, 05:40 PM
It's just normal old computer, but I've spent a lot of times on rendering :)

MaggieQue
22-08-2007, 10:54 PM
I give up rendering fur.

At the beginning I thought I have to use Rope reactor to genereate the animation, but the rope keeps interpenetrate with the body. So now I use "Linked Xform", animate the rope by myself.

BiG ToE-3DT
23-08-2007, 02:51 AM
thats alot of spline selects.

Keep it up Maggie, you can do it.

23-08-2007, 05:49 PM
he all my first post... doesnt the thread rules say that its due on the 12th of AUG? today is the 23rd. Im new here so im not sure whats goin on but id like to take part. When is the real due date.

MaggieQue
23-08-2007, 06:40 PM
Due date has passed, and I've already submit. Now I'm im doing extra work, learning with everyone together.

Because this time only one member submit her entry.

And I think there's no real due date.....

BiG ToE-3DT
23-08-2007, 07:00 PM
True, the due dates are just to give you an idea on how long/how much time to spend on it. But it's harder and harder to find time to animate these days.

Can you belive we used to do the speed animations in a week.

MaggieQue
28-08-2007, 12:32 AM
This is my draft rendering, click the following thumnail to view animation in photobucket:

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j243/maggieque/challenge/th_c024n.jpg (http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j243/maggieque/challenge/?action=view&current=c024n.flv)

Do u like it?

MaggieQue
30-08-2007, 03:30 AM
I've finished correcting all tiny details, now I'm going to render 340 frames, each frame spends around 50 minutes to render. (no hair and fur modifier)

340 x 50 = 17,000 minutes (283.3 hours)

Cool.....

DerekSc
30-08-2007, 02:05 PM
Ok, this is ridiculous, we can't have just one entry for a speed animation comp.
Give me a couple of hours...

good stuff, all around.

DerekSc: you came threw again. Loved the camera shake. I played the animation with my sound off, but I still heard him hit the ground.

MaggieQue: I liked what did there. The squash and stretch was on point and the string animation was great. Whatever way you rigged it, fantastic. The only thing I wish there was more of, was the cat that ran into the door. If we could see where he was coming from, it would make more sense, when the door closes, then falls in with him on it.

MaggieQue

DerekSc: When I see "DerekSc Present" I thought u're going to take off ur clothes in the video. It would be more funny if Spider man collects the tooth and put it into his own mouth, then giggling and showing off all kinds of teeth that he've collected before.

Bigtoe: I'll listen what u've told me. I'm going to change it.
