HA-Jassar

MiVaDeBo, right you are :) , I thought about making it more stylized when I started modeling, so I made the arms smaller and the head bigger...
Here are some scrn shots ( this is probably the quickest model i have ever done! )

chubu, true, I have to finish everything this week because next week I have final exams, and then after that I'm going on a trip abroad for 2 weeks.....
which means this is the only time of this month in which i will work on my pc :)

ok, back to work, I have painted the texture with the help of the displacement map generated from Mudbox, and have fully textured the croc,
here's the color map along with a test render

Really good styling, modeling and texturing HA-Jassar. Cant wait to see the final pic.
Well, here's my starter. Just a wip, modeled from a cube. Gonna be a jap style croc, very stylized and caricatural.

Nice models so far.

Looks like the first post used a cut / paste from the aye-aye challenge :)

" Here are a selection of Images to give you some good references. The ayeaye has many species so choose whichever you like. Be careful not to mix ayeayes up with species that are not classified as ayeayes! "

The main image also looks like the croc ran into a bigger meaner one as it
appears he / she is missing the lower half of the front left leg ! ( ow )

If I get time, I may consider trying my hand in here.

daddydoom - its a great croc! i love it, so funny!
and i love the BG and the bird, they add a lot of style to your entry.
but maybe think about improve it, i dont have any specific, but you still have a whole month to think about it :)
maybe the shadows can be better somehow... i dont know
but i love it anyway! :P

firehazurd- nice looking croc you got there! :)
i think maybe a straw hat whould be perfect for him! think about it
and i think you should strech the straps from the pants to the shoulders so it look like the shoulders hold the pants
good luck all

I will probably try to add a few more details and elements, and also to improve the render a bit.
Time is my major problem now. Too much "serious" work on my hands at the moment, and I still didn't manage to schedule any vacation days... I must mention that I live in a country with 1000Km of beaches (beach is actually about 5km from my house), and the temperatures are rising to 40ºC...

Ianchaos: I love your concept, it could turn out to be a real winner, keep crankin man!
TonyClifton: I agree with DaddyDoom, the models looks like its off to a great start, be sure to add lots of stains and rips to simulate his "badness." Good job.

Alright, re-skinning is a real pain, but after deleting the original skin modifier and texturing I came up with some rough designs. Skinning still needs help so bare with me, but I'm still not sure whether I should use the ink and paint or the standard material... Would love some feedback ^_^

really good work everyone!!!

chubu_thanks for your comment! well, too be honest, i got some difficulties with texturing and lighting. i really would like to have the skin more bumpy, but the bump map option does not help here. would it be better to actually model those bumps? i am not familiar with displacement (3ds max to zbrush and back). any suggestions?

TonyClifton you could use zbrush to make a normal map bump. it doesn,t generate more polys like displacement map but it adds a lot of detail. you could use zbrush 3.1 to sculpt and paint your model and then extract the normal map with zmapper, it is very easy. see you!

TonyClifton

you mean, using the model i already got in max? i am trying to read some tutorials online, i am new to this process, so i will need more time for that...thank you for your advice!

by the way, your model is awesome!

zinkete
14-08-2007, 05:12 PM
thanks TonyClifton.
the process is easy: make unwrap to your model in 3ds max, collapse all except meshsmooth or turbo smooth, and then export in .obj.
the next steps is import in zbrush the .obj file and sculpt and paint. then make the normal map , and export the normal map in .psd, .bmp or .tif file to apply in 3dsmax as a normal bump.

i hope this will help you. bye!

Hi there, nice work you all. Some models need more work, some others are excellent.

I am working on the texturing right now, but it is taking me a lot of time and work because I am painting squama by squama to get nice detail and control.
I have done the basic texturing for the legs and arms, still have to paint detail like spots and freckles. I have also work the bump maps but still need to adjust.
Time for the displacement when I finish texturing (bumps, Colors, Diffuses, Speculars, etc.)

I DON'T KNOW WHY I CAN'T POST AN ATTACHED IMAGE. SOMEONE EXPLAIN ME PLEASE.

Thanks Ties gonna try this one, but gotta some problems with the texturing process, its hard to paint the textures in PS.

To freakmean16:

Hi there... Nort of South America?

How can I paint textures more faster?

To paint textures you can either use Photoshop (PS) first and then use a program like Bodypaint 3D (BP3D) to erase the seams. Export your model as an obj From Maya, 3D max and import it into BP3D. Then create a material in BP3D in the Materials Tab. File > New material or Ctrl+N. Next step is to double click over the New Material you've created and look for the texture. You can take the texture you have worked on in PS. Bodypaint 3 will respect all layers from PS with alphas and everything. Take the material and drag it over the model, the same as how you apply a material in Maya. Use the 3D button and Projection Button to paint over the model. With the clone tool you can get rid of the seams. Go back to photoshop to adjust and edit, or press the texture tab that you will find at the uper left corner of the BP3D viewport to work in 2D mode. I recommend you to read a BP3D tutorial, it is very simple to use. I learned it in like an hour.

To UV unwrapped I use the automatic projection in Maya then I start to put together pieces and divide them accordingly to where I want the seams to be (under the arm or in places you won't see the seams) Then I use the relax uvs when the uvmap is organized. I don't care about having all the same size.

I hope I could answer your questions

Hey here are some Wips hope you like´em, the uv is made in silo2, Deep Uv, not finished yet, but working on it.

Thanks Ties!

No his design is not based on a game character. Interestingly enough, this is
one of the very few projects I started from scratch without even looking for
some reference pictures to help me with the modeling. So if he looks similar to another character, I can say that wasn't my intention.

hello, I think that you have a problem with the colors and the lights.
The clothes colors of the crocodile are confused with the back wall and seem a hole, and the things that there are in the floor have too much light and compete with the crocodile.

The model is good

If this is not understood it was translated by google, sorry

Hi everyone, I see nice crocs over here. Nice Zinkete, nice rendering, very good character design. Nice TonyClifton you have improved your work a lot. Nice Firehazurd, I like a lot the scene, the camera angle is interesting.

Now I show you guys my character. Still need more work in the texturing and detailing with displacements. Bump maps are getting there. I would like to change the eye also for another one with a rounded pupil. Shorts, Tshirt and Flipflops have no texture.

Modeling of theeth, buttons and chest also pendants.

Hope you like it.

TonyClifton - crockabilly boogie is coming along nicely. rock-n-roll :)
Zinkete - really great work...you have a unique style that makes your characters stand out from the crowd. Top Notch work.

nyphe: nice concept and really cool modeling. What software did you use?
Woody3D: Ahah. Is that Crocella Anderson? The concept and cartoony modeling is cool, but I think the light could be improved. Just an opinion though!
ahmedadel_art: Much better now. Though I think the light is a bit agressive. Perhaps using GI the overall feel of the scene would get a bit softer. Unless you really want to have a more punchy light setting, its cool!
