yes better but it seems a bit empty. And add a bumpmap on it!
It seems to me that the wood looks a little painted on rather than the ball being made of wood. From what I remember of the film they also had a layer of varnish on them. Just some things to think about :)

man, was i disapointed with that movie...
yeah it doesnt really look like wood besides the diffuse color. i don't really know how to reproduce polished wood but some falloff map in the specularity level slot might work (really dont know)

I tried modelling a second ball just little more big than this one, concentricals, with clear plastic material, but the rifraction has made a "lens effect", so the result was identical to this that i publish... is that a bad idea?

Its (besides the probs said above) a bit too red. I guess wood is more towards a more brownish ( more yellow) touch.
yah I agree it needs a bump.
a falloff in specularity:???: :???: :???:
uh!, I'd rather a falloff in reflections.

yeah like i said, no clue about polished materials, either polished cars nor polished wood, but i will look into it.
