This is my first matte painting really..
But sounded like fun so I'm giving it a shot!
I'm going for the following:
Frozen lake with a burning red sunset.
This frozen and lake part goes together and counts as the 2 I reckon?
Well this is the part I done so far.
I started off with a Fjord picture I took in norway.. Edited in the Ice and the Lighthouse..
Thinking of recreating all the mountains in Vue to go a bit more snowish!
Painting it didn't really work so far..
Let me know what you guys think!

be careful that if you go for a frozen lake, your hills can't be that green...you'll have to paint some snow...keep it up :)

Painting the snow was the first problem I encountered!
I will try both the painting and the remoddeling in Vue to see what comes out best!
I'm still not 100% sure about the ligthouse.
What do you think?

I like it. Lighthouse wise I think it would be nice to see an arched structure coming off of it to the left maybe the remains of some ancient bridge.

Hmm I was thinking of somthing like that.
But than I think I would be going to far, seeing that would be considered "ruins" and would be a 3th subject.

I believe you can do the sunset, plus two of the other subjects. So you'd have ice and ruins in addition to the sunset. Of course if you have the lake with ice in it, I don't know if they'd count that as two...

Yeah true, well I will see what I can work out :)
Thanks for the feedback!

Well as my first idea turned out rather lets say.. weak.
I've decided to restart from scratch.
So I've started working on a bit of a different combination.
Ice/Snow mountains combined with Ruins sounded like the most fun and since I wanted to use some of the 3d aspects as well, I've decided to built the mountains and a clean building in Vue, to later destroy the building in photoshop.
Will post some work tomorrow!

Sorry, the first image came a day later then expected!
Been working alot on the ruin. But I still hid it from the render to show the background and atmosphere first!

About the ruin:
I've decided to go for a chinese like "temple" that I started to ruin from start!
Let me know what you guys think!

So I've been working alot on the ruin!
this complete setup is based on a scene from Vue infinite I saw a picture of on the net.
I've made a similar like temple in 3ds max, only then ruined :)
I tried to "copy" the stairs setup, and the ground base which I thought was looking really good in the image.
The tree is still a bit sketchy..
I'm really eager to hear some feedback on what you guys think!
Here is the image, the coloring in jpeg still looks sketchy which I will worry about later on in photoshop, just want to get the rest right first!:

Edit:
Image removed. Building will change

Is this half the image? or the whole image itself? Don't get me wrong I like it! But somehow it's telling that there is more than what I'm seeing here. Something that I'm missing.
All those aside, the modelling looks fantastic, even the rocks and tree looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing this finished! :)

isn't that the temple scene from one of Vue showcase samples?

I don't know where the image was made with. I've got an older Vue version maybe but it isn't in my showcase.
I pretty much remoddeled the whole image, just the foreground that is.
If you think it looks to much alike I will remodell another like temple or whatsoever.. Since the image does resemble the other one..
Just let me know what you think is best!

It's a foreground made by Eran Dinur...you just moved around some rocks/trees; so please don't use already made scenes/models, thanks :)

I'm sorry you think that it's Suirebit but I really didn't use any model I didn't make myself.
And I will remake another building.
I don't think I can prove that I tried to remake this building and then ruin it, which I found on an image. *I didn't even know it came with an example concept in the newest vue*
But think away the foreground object!
I will completely redo this all, but do you like the background for that mather..?
well thanks for pointing out that the image came from a Vue showcase example. And sorry for the confusion there.
Edit:
I'll post some of the new building as soon as I got something to show
