Nicely modeled, very good details, curious. What exactally is the idea of this model. It's a strange boat, how is it suppose to work?
But good modeling, I really don't see water though.

The DOF kind of hides the lower portion.

It reminds me a little of Tank Girl, especially with all the protrusions. Seems very top heavy and wouldn't last in heavy waves, although those look like jets up top so maybe if it had enough forward movement it wouldn't roll over. Also I think bouyancy might be a problem with all the weight being centered like that.

This is awesome. I love the modeling and texturing here! Fantastic work.

I've been waiting for this one for a while ;).

Great work, jeb, though the water seems just a little bit too transparent ... mebbe not enough refraction or something.

I don't think jeb's going for absolute realism here ... I wouldn't worry about it being topheavy.

Good work.

Woot, my firt post with my new alienware labtop.

Very nice boat you got there. It reminds me of when i was a kid when all my battle ships where loaded to the gills to take out anything that got in the way.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and keep up the good work.

How long did this take you ?

Excellent Texturing, As well as the modelling.

Btw..in your first image, Is the background modelled, or did you compose the ship over an image ??

thanx a bunch guys. the scene is a photo i took. the water was really clear ad calm not one riple or reflection. so the ripples you see there are bump map.

It took me severals months with lots of not working thays in between. there where lots of days when i worked on other stuff. so that why it tok about 3 months to finish, plus after modelling and unwrapping was finished i was waiting for the mail to arrive with my 3dtotal texture cd. GREAT CD! so when it did arrive i started texturing, and texturing took like half a week.

This is wonderful. The water seems fine to me because it's such a small amount, only a bucket full. The textures are outstanding. I love how this thing seems both small and scary at the same time. Nice work.

Excellent work.

I don't know what everyone was saying, but, I could see the water quite well. Although it did seem to have a bumpier ripple then it would normally have.

I love that pic! I love the concept! Why don't u try to make the "ship" more agressive using for example a "smiles" like this

Problemss
06-04-2003, 05:27 AM
hey jeb what do u use to unwrap your images. anything special or just the standard uvwunwrapper??

Little Nicky
06-04-2003, 05:32 AM
Hey jeb

First you have to download the Japanese character set for Internet Explorer (Netscape would have one too, I just don't know how to get to it) by going to www.home.co.jp (a site with heaps of Japanese characters). IE will ask you to download Japanese character support (2.8MB).

Once that is done go to Babel Fish (http://babelfish.altavista.com), and there you can get your English words translated to Japanese.

If you don't download the Character Set, the translation will just come up as little boxes.

Hope that helps :).

i though about that smile, but it just wouldn fit, atleast not for me. thanx for suggesting though.

::problemss:: i used a free app called uvmapper. (www.uvmapper.com) i like it because when i do cilindrical mapping it unwraps the back of the models very well, and max gives me crap with this sometimes.

::lil nicky:: thanx for the info, i already had the font and i didnt know. lol.

These opinions i disagree with entirely. If this were a photograph of this bucket of water (and it could very well be) this is probably exactly what it would look like.
Everyone wants you to crank up refraction, tone down transparency and etc.
once you do these thing along with adding more "ripples" and "blue" and whatever other crap....the whole scene will end up looking fake and CG.

always remember:

"Realistic" CG shouldn't look CG at all

and 2:

Subtlety is the key to realism.

Excellent work! I was so inspired I copied the jpg and put it in my INSPIRATION folder.

Jeb, can you explain me how to get an .obj file from 3DS? Please :) I like your way of texturing and want to try it. And the ship is interesting, I like to make detailed models too.

jeb
08-04-2003, 07:29 PM
thanx guys...

there are 2 plugins called max2obj and obj2max totally free. do a web search and youl find them with no problem

here is the image of the background without cg or post

Oh...the pail and sink isn't CG? Good job at fooling me. :)

Yes, and thanks for the plugins. I've downloaded them, too. Though without Poser I don't know how much I'll use them. Unless someone can tell me the benefits of Max2Obj and Obj2Max.

:: 3dtodd :: the advantages are that you can bring obj model from other aplications to max.

Jeb,
Are the UV coordinates retained when the OBJ is imported into Max?

jeb
12-04-2003, 06:27 PM
when you import to max the models mantein their uvs, but if you export from max they dont, weird.
