Here's my first work in progress!!!!
This image was taken when I was fooling around with LW6.5b but I flushed it.
Now, I'm starting back with 3DS Max 4.2. Let's see what will happen in the next few week!

Yes, thatīs definately a weapon.
Being a fan of warhammer, i can see that the overall shape of the gun is right, and the details are all there as well,
However its a bit too sharp, ya might want to bevel the edges to give it a more realistic look.
-Bevel--Is there anything it cant do ? :D
Ps..Triggers are always cool. :p ;)

Yes, i also loved warhammer 40K and the original. But alas, ive lost all my peices and trashed all my scenery. I wish i could buy some more models and paint them, because that was my favorite part. Although i think the game had too many rules, which made it hard to play, but also gave it it's versatility.
ps. did i mention i loved to paint those models, not all i have left is one model that has already been painted, but i think it is actually a d&d product. Also dark eldar rule!

Thanks Holo-3DT for the advice! It is too sharp and it will be a bit more rounded in the 3DS Max version.
I will also add a little gizmos all around to show my Chapter.
Space Wolves rules!
Note: Torlok... Buy some and paint them! That's the only thing I do since the rules changed!

warhammer 40k have been always characterized from the usury and from the rust! would have to not only furnish the weapon of some bruise and clearing to level of texture!!
Would confer very more charisma!
the rest is ok

I do plan to make it quite used. All the weathering and scratching will be done through texturing!
See ya!

looks good, needs a trigger tho. cant wait to see rendered version, do you plan to make the space marine for him? i used to be big warhammer fan, what unit do you plan to make this gun for?

I will make the trigger shortly! Don't worry!
In fact, yes I do plan to make the space marine for it! A Space Wolf Blood claw ( THE first woman to make it... )
It will also be the base model to make a silenced version, long barrel version and one with a grenade launcher! Combi weapon may be in the process... Note that as you know, it is a must to make this weapon because it is standard among all Space Marines.
Since it is my first project with 3DS Max 4.2, the update will be slow indeed but I will not let go until it is firing down at the Imperium enemies!

that guy looks cool, nice paint job, i have a chaos army, maybe i can get some pics of my better painted guys and show you them some time, i was also thinking of starting to do some modleing on a bezerker or one of my lords. Keep us updated o nyours tho :)
I really never played the game at all, was just interested in the wide array of characters, and i loved painting em cause, of the high detail.

On my side I was playing second edition but switched at third edition because the grenades disapeared:( Of course, I still collect my army since I like painting it!

I'm just figuring out NURBS right now! I hate them but I understand the power they bring so next update? Huh ... I dont know... Maybe this friday if I did not kill my cats!
See ya!
Note: for now, it's only a cylinder object that I moved the vertexes...

There it is! My first NURBS object! Now, I must figure out how to close the bottom more beautifully! I know that I must make curves... Any other way that you know of except the "cap" thing?
See ya!

Personally I wouldn't use nurbs, due to the fact that making straight edges with them is very difficult, they are more suited for organic modelling, like a tyranid for instance ;) .
Those other bolters were really, really nice.
Very detailed.
What did you use for reference?

Thanks Crawling Chaos! I'm using the simple bolter from the plastic Space Marines and the Brother Artemis (Inquisitor) special bolter.
See ya!

The thing with WH40K is it's a mean dark gritty gothic universe and everything in the design reflects that - and so should your textures :D

Here's the first pic of the official handgrip for my bolter... Trigger may change but I doubt it!

I have still quite a few details to add, so the modeling will finished only in the next two weeks!

I'm now in the process of creating the special ammo adapter...
Big box on receiver... I know, it's only a big box...

Don't know what the real one looks like but your's looking good sofar and I would have used the boxmodeling method on this one:)

Thanks rubberduck! I know I should have used that method...!
I just created a spline with the right shape and did an extrusion madness on it!
Only the barrel and both the handgrip / trigger were done differently.

Well, i'm not dead... Just too busy at the moment...
My bolter thread is not dead just hibernating. I will wake it up soon with some new screen shots and texturing!
I was in need of some inspiration for it so I flushed it for some time and concentrated on painting the actual miniatures and gaming.
Stand by...

I think it looks great!!!
My only concern is those blurry edges around the edges. May just be the quality...

When rendering, they vanish:)
Still, it's quite bizzarre... Thanks for the C&C!
