i cant seem to figure this one out, i try and try and try, and it seems that all i do is keep shifting the triangle over. Hopefully somone can help me out with this.http://www.create3d.org/online/triangle.gif

well you could just get rid off this line, if its really important to get rid of that tri.

That first picture looks better for me. That's a fairly flat surface, do you honestly need 5-6 polygons to define it?

Either suggestion is good, though Kate's suggestion might cause a sub-division head-ache if that opening is intended to be roughly circular. Without readjusting the spread of vertex it could create a potential pinch in the geometry.

Personally, I would take the left leg of the tri and merge it into the right leg, since it looks like you are trying to create fairly strong chamfered edges (ie the opposite of what YEAROFTHEOX suggested).
