im not sure how to post text between pictures or after pictures. i see on the final entry thread, some people have labeled what pic is what. i only know how to write text before the pictures.
like so:
img tag(picture)img tag
TEXT
img tag(picture)img tag
TEXT
img tag(picture)img tag
TEXT
thats all there is to it.

poopipe, that looks like a charm :D Who's your friend, who's your friend? Only a pole missing now and we'll have the ugliest stripper ever ahaha!

ugly :(
I toyed with a pole but it didn't really fit that image - I might use one in the beauty shots

poopipe: i would say your character looks a bit more cabaret than stripper, so the pole might not fit in too well. but the red stage, the chair, and the peacock feathers fit like a glove! speaking of wich, the gloves do look a little dark, its hard to really see how many hands he has. but then again the black gloves do fit the cabaret design. red gloves might match the stage and stand out a bit better, but you wouldnt want it to lead the eyes away from the penis too much. but so far, its the creepiest thing ive ever seen and has so much to the design that the last thing you realize is his face is missing. its looking good and i cant wait to see it finished.

red rubber is an interesting idea, I'll give that a rag - maybe some other colours as well.
I've been trying to put the eye makeup/eyes I had in the original concept on but it's not working well - in fact I'm having trouble adding anything to it without spoiling things.
maybe tattoos?

blush on the cheeks might work, maybe even some sloppy lipstick, but eye makeup usually requires eyes. somthing lacey might fit in there somewere and if you do give it some tatoos, it should probably be somthing feminine.

Ugly in a good way. About the pole, yes, it might kill the cabaret/burlesque effect, as omnicypher said.
Anyway, it's turning out an amazing piece, very very dark, sick and twisted... All a true darkside is all about.

I was wondering how the voting works? On the 9th do we vote or after?
BiG ToE-3DT
06-12-2007, 09:24 PM
well, right after the deadline, I open up the voting.
Do you guys want to do it in a poll format, or the normal way.
poopipe
06-12-2007, 09:44 PM
poll format sounds sensible.
I'm not bothered as long as everyone votes for me :D

I think poll would be good. Not only will it be easier to count, it'll let the lazier people vote, not excluding myself :p
Poop: Those are some sexy legs he's got ;) The only thing that's bothering me is the dip from the stomach to the ribs is too extreme and the ribs are looking a bit unnatural; they range from thin to wide and with too deep of an impression. You can probably use a little more color in the feathers and the skin. (No dark sacs?)
Gordon Freeman: Hrm. Perhaps a little more contrast with the color; maybe lighter areas of the skin on the chest, abdomen, etc. Some color variation in the skin would be great too.

with a poll, would we pick our top 3? or would it just be picking the winner?

hmmm deadline is tomarrow? Because i can finish my character for tomarrow i guess

poopipe: if you don't feel you can add anything without harming the character, then you're done! :) Good job

I think a poll would make it difficult to practice the traditional style of first, second, third place votes. This would make it so that people would only be able to vote once as opposed to the three times that make the competition a big goal for the rest of the community. I think that the main reasons for joining these competitions, myself included, are not only to produce work for competitive reasons, but also to refine their artistic capability and feel like they accomplished something they wouldn't have been able to do before the competition.
In the end, my opinion stands to continue using the following format:
First place: Name
Second place: Name
Third place: Name
poopipe
07-12-2007, 04:52 PM
that's a good point - unless this board has some sort of super poll.
everyone follow this format for voting
First place: Poopipe
Second place: <Name>
Third place: <Name>

the polls can be setup so that people can vote for more than one person, and if you wanted to crit somesomes work, you could still post thoughts and ideas. So like a few of you hinted at, the only real draw back with the polling, would be the fact that each vote would have the same point value, instead of first place being 3 points, second place is 2 points and third place is 1 point. The person with the most points wins.

personally, i like the old method. with a poll, it could end up a landslide victory for first place, and if its unanimous, there would be no second or third place. plus critiquing work is easier right after rating it on a scale of 1-10 in 3 separate catagories. then everyone who came close but a little short, would know if they need to spend more time on texturing, modelling, or concept next time. but then again a poll would be a different way to do things and change is somtimes good.
either way, i had alot of fun with this comp and i learned alot. i learned how to overlay normal maps, how to symmetrically rig a character in max, and i learned alot about muscle and bone anatomy. its also the first time i used specularity maps. i also learned how to make volumetric fire and fog, and i came up with new ways to rig and control a camera. this is the 10th consecutive competition ive entered here at threedy forums and this is the first one that ive successfully finished on time. i cant wait for the next competition to begin!

pretty late :hurt:, but i plan hurrying up... what do you think works best? the human leg or the goat leg? :dunno: i made a quick sketch to show you what i'm thinking about (though it's not everything) to get the big idea. it's some kind of 2-in-1 (special offer :) ) character, with the ghost(my dark spiritual side) coming out of my back.
BiG ToE-3DT
07-12-2007, 11:44 PM
keenox: go with the human legs, if you use the goat legs, people may get confused about and whole idea. What I mean is, a half goat, half man could be your darkside on its own
As for the voting, I think we will have to do both. I'll post a poll when the time comes, and add the old voting system as well. Then we can compare the two results to see if the poll worked out right or not.
omnicypher
08-12-2007, 01:35 AM
keenox: if only the top half of the ghost will be comming out, thats the part that should be non-human. you gotta be pretty damn fast to be able to finish a character in 2 days, and show as much detail as people who work on thiers for 4-6weeks. good luck, and i cant wait to see what you come up with.

Agh, trying to finish! I've still gotta model his weapon, then texturing all day tomorrow :P

its hard to tell from this angle, but it looks like the knee could protrude more.
styx: it looks like in your final entry you used object space normal maps instead of tangent space normals, which is why thier kinda rainbowy. object space normals only look right under 1 lighting condition, but if you want to move your object from the start position, or to move the lights around, you need tangent space normals for the normals to render correctly.

Hi, everybody, the final post is this night.
Who can explain what we do post?
thx.. ^_^
poopipe
09-12-2007, 01:43 PM
i tihnk its like this...
1 pic of your character presented nicely in a winning pose - people seem to be choosing a setting or placing the character on a presentation stand
1 pic showing you character's best features - this can have several images composed into it
1 wire pic with polycount
1 pic with all your texture maps composed into it
1 pic with the concept art if you have it
check the final entry thread and copy that - it's what I did :)
@omnicypher
Hm...i never made an Animation with this Normalmap, i look if i have a other choise to export the Normals. thx
edit:
ok, there is a other option to export the normals. i dont have see that. ^^
next time i use tangent space normals.
oh and sorry for my bad english, i hope everybody can understand me. ^^
