New Ratings System!
So, we are test running the ratings system for threads. For the last... oh, I don't know... 5 years?.. it has taken 5 votes on any one topic before a star rating is given. We have provisionally reduced this to 1, which means that from now on, your rating will be shown straight off the bat. We hope the ratings will act as a good indicator of how someone's work is progressing, and we hope this change helps the loyal members of Threedy to feel that their voice is heard more effectively.

However, please avoid using this new system as the impetuous to post unreasonable or ill-conceived comments/crits particularly as a personal attack on other users. Otherwise, it's gone. We trust that your judgment will remain as impartial and as honest as it has always been!

Cheers all.
Monte.

Personally I don't like the new system. Now someone could rate your thread with 5 stars and you'll see it on the page, but it's just one's opinion.I think 5 votes were better.
With this system,Threedy will become like ZCentral, where almost every single thread is rated. You simply won't get this feeling like you you've done something really good when you see 5 stars in your thread.

But it's just my opinion.

to combat this we all must rate as we see fit ;)
If you click on a thread and clearly see that it is not worthy of a 5***** then lower it by giving it a appropriate scoring. The averages will then balance out.

The problem with that is how I'll see a thread with 5 stars and think it only deserves 3 stars. It's really difficult at that point to rate it 3 stars, because I know the average will be 4 stars...which I don't agree with. I tend to want to give it 1 star so the average will appear.

However, if you wait to display a rating after 3 votes, then I already know my vote will do little to the average until others have voted, and I can vote as intended.

Well, I set it to "after 2 votes" a while ago, so at least it doesn't happen immediately. It was on 5 to start with, and then there were never any stars.

No stars = Your intentions don't count for anything anyway.

Better to have a little balancing going on IMO, than to have no visual feedback whatsoever.
