View Full Version : Playmate (subtle nudity)
This started originally as my research-study into mental ray subsurface scattering solutions on a Poser exported mesh. After trying out various material trees and tweaking texture maps, I ended up rendering a wallpaper image and here we are. The mesh itself is Daz' Victoria, using slightly tweaked textures, rendered with mental ray in a custom built environment.
Since I mentioned making it a wallpaper, by a colleagues request I made a handful desktop resolutions for those interested.

It's easy on the eye, so here you go. Comments, crits and feedback is always welcome. Cheers :)

Not bad. The bump is a bit high.

Hmm, I don't know, perhaps a matter of preference since it's not high in my opinion. I adjusted the bump according to feedback from a few colleagues and settled with this one. Or, possibly, a matter of environment, subject being naked in low temperature room.
Nevertheless, I personally settled with the bump the way it is.

Nice use of SSS,very well done Render.
Maybe you could send it in for the wallpaper section here at 3D Total.

Ah, thanks. Didn't notice that there was a submitting option :)

Perhaps...given, I've seen lots of naked women...I've never seen any in a studio setting on red velvet...but the bump is still too high.

Yes you already said that. And I am sorry, I just do not agree, repeating it will not make it sound any more convincing. Thank you though :)
I do know what a womans skin looks like, and feels like for that matter, and this is the closest representation of it on a 3D render I managed to get to. Really, if the bump bothers you this much, who cares? Stark contrast brings out such detail on human skin really well, just search for similar light setups and closeups of skin online. Why on earth you have the idea that every skin should be baby smooth, I do not know, real life is a tad bit different and that was what I was aiming for in the render.

different areas of the body have different bump amounts.
The areas you chose to focus on,you achieved the right amount of bump.
It looks natural to me.Different lighting will create a different bump look.
With this type of lighting the bump amount looks exactly as it should.
The SSS is very well done.
My only critique is the calf muscles, they could be smoothed a bit more
and it`s hard to tell what position "her" left foot is in.

It looks like she has Cankles.
That looks about right to me. Good work :)

The bump looks perfect that way. Keep it.
I like the look of the scene. Pretty neat work!

I agree on the calf muscles.. just a tiny bit of edges showing there.
I think the skin is rendered really well here. It has a great overall feel and the light is fantastic.
Thank you :) Nice to see my invested time and effort into the material being appreciated :)
