Time to give life to an inanament object. Be it a cube, or a sphere or whatever. Just do your best to show a mood through a shape that shouldn't have any.

A rig test. The playback is much slower here on forum then the actual animation.

Hey Maggie, Maya is my animating tool.
Wicked Rig Lythis! What kind of deformer are you using there? I'm thinkin squash and stretch deformers for my cube.

i will try and make a better animation for an update, tell me what u think so i can modify it, dont worry i will fix it so it isnt inside itself or anything.

This will be my entry. I must end it here cause i will be leaving the state for the holidays. I will still have access to the net so I hope to see some cubes up here.
http://geekfl.tripod.com/test.html
Mr.Amazing- If u can get more cubes like that one and do something with the colors u can make a cool chaotic, psychodellic, trippy effect. make it blink real fast and add some lights, we all can have a seizure party. lol
Happy Holidays everyone!

Hey BiG ToE-3DT I was just wondering, i have no idea of how to rig or do anything with Maya a part from animating, so I wanted to know if i could use a really simple rig, its a sphere with a tail, it looks exactly like the rig they use in animation mentor. Is that alright if i use it? or i really do need to animate one object only???
Hey lythtis, I like what you did with that cube so far, if admin dont want me to animate my rig, do you feel like sharing your square??? : )

I decided to try another animation for this challenge today. Last night I made and rigged up a little juice box in 3ds Max. I got inspired by a pixar animators reel :-)
Here's what I have so far...
http://yorkanimates.com/Box_Hop_Cycle.mov
I think im gonna try and make a sneaky walk cycle with a cube next... That would be sweet..... a little juice box sneaking into the kitchen or something...
By the way if anybody wants to use my little juice box rig I made. I would be glad to clean it up and place it on Highend3d.com or something for everyone to use for a free rig to use in 3ds Max.

Cute drink u have MikeYork.
I'm rigging cube now. Experiment with FFD Control Points rigging.
MaggieQue
08-01-2008, 12:21 PM
First of all what I want is using box01 controlling the FFD control points of Chamferbox01. I don't want to expand the modifier during animate FFD, too troublesome.
MaggieQue
08-01-2008, 12:24 PM
This is experiment of using Reaction Manager with FFD Control Points.
I can move the FFD CTRL points XYZ position, but what if Box01 rotate? The control points can't stick on box01.
MaggieQue
08-01-2008, 03:37 PM
The red, yellow and blue boxes position are wired to FFD control points.
When I link the red, yellow blue boxes at the top to box01 (green color), the wiring lost and the top FFD control points expand.
MaggieQue
08-01-2008, 04:27 PM
So I give up using Box01, but using selection center for multiple objects during animation.

Hey don't give up :-) just try something new or different to get the result you are trying to achieve. It looks like your are trying something a little to tedious to get the result you are looking for. I made a little video tutorial for you hope it helps or sheds some light on some new ideas.

Daya wanna know how I do it?
BiG ToE-3DT
19-01-2008, 02:31 AM
yes, I do. Are you some kind of max script wizzard?
MaggieQue
19-01-2008, 06:36 AM
My dear big-toe, no script is used in this rig.
I used Composite Material and Reaction Manager only. Parameter Editor (Selected Object's Base Level) is used to create buttons.
When button is on, value is 1, so Amount 1 is 100.

I have a quick question
Are there any sort of Winner's or prizes/awards that are given out for these comps?
BiG ToE-3DT
06-02-2008, 04:16 PM
well, I would like to say yes, but the big dogs wont give prizes to small comps like this one. If we could get more people to join, then, at least one prize could get tossed out there. As for winners, we are all winners, no, really, when we have more then 3 entry's, then I set up a voting thread, but lately, no one wants to animate, they just want to watch.
i like the idea of animating a dancing banana let's start.
ps Big Toe why don't you ask for a cintiq as a prize, i'm sure this place would be crowded by animators:dance:
