here u go, speed painting challenge no. 69 starts now and ends on the 18th of jan. 2008. friday.

:*poly:Topic: A Robot And A Snowman.

something different this time. u got the topic now lets see how everyone goes about it. u can think of a scene with a robot and a snowman to say something, like a story, add an emotion, like friendship, anger, love, etc...:).

its upto you to decide about the background/setting, anything u like, interior or exterior. just have a mood, have something going on and let the work say something.

u can start painting and posting. this ends on the 18th and voting starts after the announcement.

all the best to everyone...:).

hi ...

my entry - "robot vs. snowman"
the idea was, that "bad" robot try to challenge snowman by throwing screws in him & snowman get angry & "give it back" to robot by throwing snow ball in his "face" :) ... or something like that - that was my FIRST thought about this challeng so here it is :)

sorry 4 my english :(

zylak, thats a niced one :D..the story is funny

Well, realy cool idea Zylak, just one note - i think there should be 2 more shadows on cartoons from window light source. You got shadows from a moon, but due to light source from window it seems unpropriet. Or at least on snowman, maybe robot is out of the window angle :). Just a thought, otherwise cool idea, lol.

ok..here's my entry. 3 hours with photoshop. the story is about the robot that feel a bit sad to know that the snow man he made a while ago is about to melt because the summer is soon arrive.
it just yesterday..when the robot still happy play with the snowman and the robot plan to 'give the snowman another syal to cover the neck. but today when he come..he doesn't so happy with what he see and can't do anything for it....
hope to see another entry..good luck all!!:)

Wow pretty cool works. Here's my entry... entitled "Courtship". A snowman fallen in love with a female robot. I've wanted to keep it simple and speed painted at 2 hours in photoshop CS3. I loved the outcome so I might make a more detailed version and not for submission. I'd like to add a monitor in the female bot which shows... "Incompatibility = 100% Probability = -100 Final Decision = Regardless,YES.! I hope you guys like it!

This is the first time I attempt one of these competitions. I have to say, I've been following 3D Total for over 2 years and I love this site. It really helped me out through college. Hopefully I will participate in more of these competitions to develop my skills in both 2D Painting and 3D Modeling.

These are my current WIP shots of my snowman that I started the moment i saw this competition on the front page. Hopefully I can finish this the way I want by the deadline. Wish me luck.

hello ...

nice entrys guys :) i hope see some more till 18th. :)

@ Reddgrrr: i know, i know ... shadows + lighting is my HUGE problem :( i'm still learning, thanks M8

@ Androgs: nice piece, love colors & effects of this one ... looks really superb

@ Nocturn8: IMO this is the best idea 4 "story" in this challenge, but i don't like colors that U use + blurriness (snowman / window frame especially) - i paint my first pictures like this, than i start to use HARDER brush

@ racing2khaos: nice start M8, this one looks very good 4 me

@ pgomez: :) nice one, i like Ur characters (snowman is super) but i don't think that we should call Ur technique "painting", am i right ? :) looks like U use vectors + gradients mostly ... but it's still VERY NICE :)

@ QuantumFlux: :) i would like 2 make another one 4 this challenge & my idea was almost the same as Urs :) i like it a lot :)

waiting 4 more :)

Hi,

here comes my interpretation of the theme: Last Snowman Standing. C&C Welcome. PS and Wacom, about 3h on and off. It was a daylight scene, and changed to night.

Sorry. Didn't know about WIPs not being part of this. I'm usually always looking at the 3D competitions and those always have WIP shots in there. Should I remove those other pictures or should I wait until I have the final one before I remove them. What should I do.

Also good job guys I like seeing all these different ideas. Never thought a robot and a snowman could have so much fun. lol!

hi all,

this is my voteable entry for the challenge. I chose the elf to be my robot.

As time passed, santa found that the elves of the northpole are finading other lucrative jobs to do. Since, there were very few elves to work on the gifts; he ordered then making of robotised elves to take care of the job. And so they did.

In this scene, i have portrayed the first encounter of the robot, named, 'NGC67', with a snowman. NGC67 is fascinated by the size of the snowman and how he remained motionless. So, he sits down and looks at the snowman in awe.

Hope you like this work. Thanks for watching.

c&c's welcome.

:) nice 2 see some new entrys :)

@ Norman Anderson: nice one, nice details on snowman & robot, i think it would be better if U pait that snowman is melting because of robot's "turbo heat" :) but that's only my sugestion, anyway it's very nice :)

@ PerkExpert: i like it, idea for story is very good :) but i think Ur paint shouldn't be so blurry in some areas (robot's edges, backround buildings 4 eg.) ... snowman looks awesome imo :)

@ drained spirit: i like colors in this one, nice details - trees & snowman looks nice ... but i think U should "change" robo-elf's "bobble hat" ... it doesn't look good - i think U know what i'm talking about :)

Hi Artists,

nice entrys here, just wanted to give some comments on postings, wanted to do it a lot earlier, but work kept me from doing it.

Androgs: A small masterpiece, excellent colors, super brushes, intense emotion. Well done.

Zylak: Nice entries, the motion from the first post is really nice, and also the dynamics from the flying robot. I think though, the shadows are a bit out of place. I like the colorcomposition of the second one and the overall mood. The first piece is also a bit too airbrushed and smooth on the snow and sky. Sth i do too often too. If someone has a little tutorial about using brushes, im glad to see it. I like the colors of the first one a lot.

Somepantsman: Awesome idea and simple execution, and its really funny, i like it a lot. Also the emotion of the little robot, hilarious.

Drained Spirit Nice elfrobot and story, also nice "thick" greens and trees. I think that also here a bit of contrast could have helped the piece. Overall painting detail is very nice. Good job!

Norman Anderson Very nce one, i love the story and the melting snowman. Keep it up!

RacingToChaos Nicely made piece. Good colors and clean execution, background could be a bit more interesting. and: Its funny :)

Rodriguez: Awesome idea, clean work, very nice hands and good shading and contrast. I like it a lot.

Aby Arty: Good Starter, but if u needed 7 hours for this, u might have gone into details way too fast. Try getting an overall sketch in just some minutes, then add very rougly overall tonal values, after that make color thumbs or sth similar to get a feeling for composition and athmosphere. This shouldnt take you more than maybe 30mins and give u a rather fast idea on wether the piece has potential or not, just my two cents. Keep it up!

Reddgrr Cool idea, nice colors, maybe a bit more interesting perspective. like from below or whatever. The Robot is very well done, it seems to "work".

Pitchus: Super cool colors, nice idea and very dynamic figures. I would have voted for your piece if it had entered in time.

Nocturne8 Nice story, cool perspective and composition. Weird colors imho, id change the pink and add some contrast.

QuantumFluxx Nice Starter, good flow of the lines.

Pgomez Nice story, but it really looks like a bit vectorfilling, but also the style has sth to it, which looks a bit "lassoed" to the otherwise great pieces. Maybe if u did draw a inked verision of it with a hard black brush and make comicshaded? The second is hilarious, great story, nice emotion, good work on colors also, it really shines!

Peas Excellent perspective from the camera, but the robot itslf has some issues perspective wise. Great neat execution and dynamic.U might also enhance the overall color contrast of the piece, against a dark background, your cool robot whould really shine out!

PerkExpert Well after seeing my own work after a while (which is always fun), i see that my laptop has other monitor colors and i lost the background detail due to filters and adjusting contrast and brightness. Dont do it if u can avoid it, it all gets mashed up.

I like this forum very much, lets see what the next topic will bring us!
