View Full Version : tired of tutorials! hand rig now!
hello, is there a way to get a final rig somewhere? I only want to animate, i've been spending most of my time rigging my character, and i keep on beeing stuck everywhere.. :-(
for the animations of the fingers, please tell me there's an easy way? .. the only two position that the hands will have are open and closed, will i need to add custom attributes to each fingers? (10 fingers!).
..
"to zero out" a control, let's stay handctrl.. i just select it and go "Parent" in the roll out menu, this is enough right? all the XYZ change to 0, so it works just like this?
thanks a lot.

i hear ya man. but i think it maybe good to just persevere and do the rig. after all practice makes perfect right.

hehe, true true, but "perfect is acceptable", that's my way of thinking now..
the thing is i don't want to go for character rigging (even though i have to to animate)..

Yeah rigging is a pain.
takes me twice as long as modeling, typing in all the weights for each vert by hand :).

MM well I think character studio could the right answer ... u do not have to bother yourself adjusting weights and limits!! everything is ready to be animated!!

Not necessarily you could create 1 custom attribute that allowed you to move the hand into an open or closed state by wiring each fingers x rotation to the same custom attribute.

Not quite - to zero out a control you need to create a Helper (point?) and align it to the handCtrl. Then link the handCtrl to the Helper and link the helper back into the Hierarchy. If you want a straight-forward answer Michael Comet has created a script which automates this - all you have to do is select the object you want to zero out and the script does the rest. Once this is done you can hide the help, move the spline shape around but if you ever want to return it to it's original place/rotation change to 'parent' and set to 0 for X,Y & Z.
